  1. A better solution... on An Unbiased Analysis of Gun Crime vs. Gun Control? · · Score: 1

  2. More likely to shoot a family member on An Unbiased Analysis of Gun Crime vs. Gun Control? · · Score: 1

Again, this is a statistic, but what else do we have? I heard that if you have a gun in your house, it is 54% more likely that a family member will get shot than an intruder. Thinking back on my own experiences, this seems about right. My best friend growing up (6yo)picked up a gun at his dad's work and shot and killed his 5yo sister. Just the other day, a friend of mine had some people over to his house and they picked up a loaded gun in his brothers room. It discharged and hit another guy in the leg. Both guns were hunting rifles.

The only case I've ever personally known of a gun being used in self defense was my grandfather shooting at some guy who was stealing his lawn mower. Now, people can say all they want about how the gun owners were neglagent ect ect, but it happens all the time. Maybe we need more training or something, but gun violence is a HUGE problem in this country. More people were shot and killed at home during the vietnam war than in actual battle. Every time I turn on a show like cops it seems there is some drunk person wielding a gun. I don't what the solution is for this country, maybe every citizen should get a standard issue M-16. We would either have complete peace or a war zone.

I thought I would include a review I read a few months back on freestyle. Minus the DRM stuff, I was pretty impressed with it. I just think it would be really nice to have all of my videos and music in the living room. I'm sure it still plays mp3's; it seems the only DRM issues are with the recorded video. If I remember correctly, there was a big to do about replaytv allowing unrestricted access to the video on the network. If the DRM is not livable, then it won't sell. I would buy one just for the radio remote control and access to my music from the stereo in the living room, not to mention pictures. Computers are great, but they are not very good in social situations. No one wants to cram around the computer in the back room for too long. Anyways, I think it has a lot of potential as long as the user interface is good.

You mention that the govt. should not be involved with moral issues. I argue that most laws are drawn up over moral issues. Murder is an easy one, but everything from tax evasion to speeding is made morally wrongin the eyes the law (where it really counts). They are the great source of morals in this country, instilled by the education system and society in general. Whatever is legal goes, right??? We can have personal moral convictions about certain practices, but the secular law has essentially become the moral force in this country, replacing the antiquated scare tactics of the church.

It's faster than downloading, DataPlay says, so it's more convenient for customers.

I'm not sure about sherlock, but it probably works like the indexing service in windows from what you've described. I can't remember if the indexing service catalogs your entire disk by default, but you can set it up to catalog everything on disk resulting in quicker queries. IS also contains filters for things like word documents to search by authorname ect, and searching by keyword is also supported. It's fast and integrated with the search utility, but I think they should expand its capabilities further for searching media by meta tags ect. It would also be nice to do a little manipulation if they can manage to implement that. My guess is they are giving up on IS and moving towards an OFS described in the article.

Microsoft has a history of doing what it thinks will make more money in the short term, even if what the company does is strongly against the interests of its customers.

I disagree, just look at the history of DOS, it sold because it was cheap, and thus became a standard. I believe Microsoft wants to first capture the chinese market. Besides, the move is obviously political, they see microsoft as part of the united states controlling their computers. Remeber the NSA_Key, I believe it is along those lines. You must not forget, the chinese government is paranoid and immature. In the end, I predict windows will win out besides this decision and Red Flag ect.

Linux is the best competitor microsoft has ever had. If anything, this proves the opposite of the anti-microsoft crowd.
