*applauds* kudos for explaining why Bushnell is a god of the industry. This is actually incredibly helpful. I forgot he's was one of the owners of Chuck E. Cheese up til around 1984 (though that end was a little bad) But Bushnell is still considered the grandfather of the video game industry (or God to some, personally I like Warren Spector more but that's me)
In other news, I got a ET cartridge the other day for 2 bucks, I feel I paid 5 bucks more than I should have.
The reason Liberman is a independant is because he doesn't vote for the democrats every time and that pissed off his old party so they pulled his funding and support. He's a great congressman (a bit insane about video games) and willing to work with both sides for which I applaud him.
I only hope that the Democrats that got in stick to what they say and don't just jump on Nancy Pelosi's train for what ever she wants. The conservatives have a majority if everyone votes how they said they would vote, but instead of ideology, most people vote by party lines which ruins the whole idea of elections since we don't elect people we elect parties.
Every time I hear "so and so broke party lines" I die a little inside. There shouldn't be party lines for them to break.
If you assume all the other voters are smart enough and will vote for who is best, not by party lines.
If you assume that, let's assume the ground is made out of chocolate and the only reason we don't eat it is because we just stepped on it.
Honestly the effect of a uniformed vote and no vote probably wouldn't be worth mentioning, as long as you vote randomly. If you really are uninformed (how you can be with ads every day in every way is beyond my comprehension), then research your candidates, you should have information on who the candidates are, learn and vote appropriately.
Find a reason to prefer one, something you really care about and vote for that person. Remember if you go vote, you don't have to vote in every contest, you only need to vote in stuff you care to vote for.
Or go vote and only vote on referendum that explain the idea in your election (not every election or area has one.) Mine in Illinios though has stuff on pulling out of iraq and impeaching bush, as well as a new tax, these are crucial questions that I'm sure everyone has an opinion on.
However if you really care about whether your vote will count, your already above a lot of people who just vote to act like they care or have a part. Otherwise you really have no right to complain when the goverment does anything to you or that you don't like, don't give up the oppurtunity, you still have a couple hours left.
Kudos for saying that (and how can you not. "Oh I'm moving to New York and I'll be your senator")
Of course listening to how "they" (her supporters) talk about her every republican and democrat will love her, I won't, a lot of people won't if the other guy has a pulse. Personally I think they are forgeting her three flaws. Female, Clinton (sorry clinton supporters, there's people who will never vote for anyone even in his administration), and Democrat (ok it's a party not a flaw, but I didn't want to sink to calling her ugly)
Not all democrats are bad, not all republicans are bad, but certain ones are just disgusting and she's up there with Teddy Kennedy. (though Teddy's problem is probably that if he quits politics he has nothing else to do now that he gave up the whoring and the boozing).
The worse though is how moral the democrats are trying to look, while just 8 years ago it was "So what if Clinton cheated on his wife with an intern?". The democrats really have a huge problem if they don't win either house tonight, as their party structure is extremely weak right now and they need to solidify if they even want a chance in 08. Acting like Hillary should be considered a contender (or Obama who no one really has heard anything of in the last 2 years) has me shaking my head.
Then again the Republicans don't have a clear cut winner, but they arn't pretending to nominate weak minority candidates (weak as in chances to get into office) in an attempt to look like they "care". They have their share of problems but at least they are presenting a semi unified front that hasn't changed.
An enemy means you oppose the device. Reading this list I don't see many that are "we will destroy the internet" (though I'm sure that's they don't love it) This appears more to be enemy of free speech or radical thinking, which winds up with censorship of the internet.
Apparently you didn't read the line of thinking. It's not that we think that it isn't important, it may be. But on the other hand, it might be a natural occurance. Every alarmist has said one thing "we tampered with nature's system" but if this is part of nature's plan then let it handle it.
Nature is surprisingly resilient, I'm sure if we tried we could beat it, but on the other hand if it wanted the world to be hotter, why are we fighting it.
This is just one possibility. I'm certain it's not fully planned for but then again who knows.
Actually the question should be "should we care?" You are right that it can be natural or artificial but another question is what would happen if it didn't occur. I admit I don't know enough to know a solution but at the same time it appears to be two differing camps of thought on it and the least of which is what happens at the opposite end if it wasn't started. Are we speeding it up or just creating it ourself, what could happen if we all of a sudden stop all of the "harmful things".
Last I checked most of the people in the debate are quoting other people in the debate, who quote third people in the debate, there's not enough actual evidence for it because it's not something that happens over people's life times, it'll be decades before we see changes people are predicting (no matter what reactionaries are saying).
A lot of people are addicted to FFXII even those with 360s, however at the same time that will last what? A month for a hard core gamer, two - three monthes for a "casual" gamer. Will sony have a good game then? The 360 has 11 monthes of lead and are reaching second generation games for their console, Sony has a lot of catch up, and people arn't going to pay 600 dollars for the FFXIII, especially with Mistwalker coming to the 360 with 2 unique Rpgs.
Personally I'll be buying a PS3, when it drops to 3-400 dollars depending on games, there's 0 reasons for a launch system, when my 360 makes me happy. The 360 has something like 60 games available (not many great ones but probably 20 worth playing once). Ps3 will have around 4-5 games you can't get on the 360 at launch? I already have a 360, and I'll be picking up a Wii.
The biggest problem is that while Final Fantasy saved them, It's owned by Square, they can't force games to release when they need, they just got extremely lucky with Final fantasy.
Sony's only going to "Win" against microsoft in Japan, elsewhere I think it's too little, too late.
That's a good idea because you know Sony's fans don't make these mistakes? You know talking about Sony is all unique, or The motion controller is just Sony taking nintendo's idea and making it for themself. Or is it that the rumble isn't needed because it's just "lame".
The sad thing is at least with Sony fan's it's not their fault. Sony's leadership has been so screwed up over the last year who knows what the current line that the fans are expected to tow is.
The way I graded the PS3, is Price, availablity of games (emphasize on stuff you can't get on other system or games already out), and the future performance for the american market, as well as the controller.
You claim the Xbox is over priced for 60 bucks more than the PS2, yet 200 more bucks for the PS3 is ok? So why are you telling me you would grade a 600 dollar item the same as a 400 dollar item assuming both do nearly the same thing?
Btw to the other response to my post. The DS gets a B because it's a weaker system than the PSP, but has great first party games and a unique control scheme. How well it sells means shit, you don't rate madden a 10 just because it's the highest selling game most years, do you?
B+ for the Ps2, A for 360, A- for Wii, B+ for PS3, A for DS, B for PSP, C for Gamecube, D for Xbox????
It seems like as long as it's next gen you get a B+ and if it's this gen if it's sony you get a B+?
This isn't "Grading" This is "which should I buy for christmas" and the answer they give? any of them. Seriously this isn't a fluff piece, this is enuff piece. A article that is written with just "enuff" to count as an article. No one fails on it, no one wins. It's just "buy what ever you were going to buy in the first place". Personally I'd probably have graded it as follows, remember this is for a new system.
B for PS2, A- for 360, B for Wii, D for PS3, F for Gamecube, D for Xbox, B for DS, B for PSP (only because it plays music)
Why is it we have to be nice to everyone? Now before you think I'm a jerk think about it. Target is not turning away business. Target is making it harder for them to access the site. Can they ask a friend to help them? Sure.
I'm sick of every disability group acting as if their needs are so important that if every company needs to spend so much money that they will go bankrupt to try to help them, then those companies should go bankrupt. If I own a business it should be my choice on how accessible it is, if it's not accessible then I lose business. Are we going to complain about stores above the 5th floor in buildings because they hurt people who suffer from vertigo? Are we going to complain about stores that are on docks because people who have a fear of water can't reach them? The answer is yes if they think of it.
Personally I think the government needs to stop bowing to every discrimination suit and realize that it's up to the business and the people involved to settle this, not to tell the business how to run themselves.
So why should Target have to make the online store accessible to the blind, when the actual store is already accessible? There's a difference between discrimination and frivolous lawsuits, and this one is firmly in the second column.
Apparently you don't vote. There's many referendums every year, and I'm sure there's still a lot for your personal state, city, district.
If you don't vote don't complain, if you don't know the issues you vote on, don't complain, but you've had the opportunity even if you didn't know. The fact you know nothing about the voting process isn't an excuse.
While this is representational democracy for the most part, you don't vote once every four years, if you actually care you vote EVERY YEAR! If you belong to a party you vote in primaries. It's not even hard to know when a vote is. Most voting boards send out information talking about upcoming votes, maybe it's time you actually got involved, rather then complaining about it.
You're forgetting, they are people who don't have to pay 600 dollars to bask in the glory of Sony.
It's a great system honestly. If programmed correctly, it'll be slightly better then the 360. However it's harder to program for, it's more expensive, and it's playing catch up with both systems. When for the price of one system I can get a system almost as good in every way, and a system that will play games in new ways why am I buying the more expensive one? Yes it might have motion control, but the Wii will feel better there, yes it might have better graphics, but the Xbox 360 is easier to program for and already has more games.
The Excite news piece is a fluff piece. You can always find gamers interested even in shitty games. How many people were hyped about Daikatana? How many were excited about the 32x? The answer was a lot and neither delivered.
Sony still has a lot of life, but there's no amount of spin that can create an urge for me to buy a PS3. At least not until the price drops and some better games come out for it.
Kudos on miscounting (which happens more often then not. Sometimes they call it honorable meantion) However You forgot the hand held era, and the add-on era (second half of the 16 bit era)
Now what you need to do to get a slash dot article about it, expand each one til it's a page each. Or instead just put the line on each page, and make a random quote/joke about it. You're almost there.
Or I like almost everyone else never played Marathon. Sorry I didn't spend 2000 dollars back then to get a mac just to play that one game, I was too busy playing the shareware Apogee put out, that I just didn't have time to play that one game.
From the little I saw of the game I saw no story, but maybe. Then again the perfect game wouldn't be perfect if no one played it, and that's one of the flaws of Marathon.
Oh come on, everone knows the oil ran out in 2000, wait 2003, wait 2005, wait 2012, it's absolutely 2012.
And you know this was the worst hurricane season ever, because of global warming because it's just going to get worse and worse.
And you know global warming trends are going to continue, until it stops.
But this is absolutely true, this is absolutely correct because you know they are very very smart people and we are just retarded people with computers. It doesn't matter that they are talking 40 years in the future, they are absolutely sure of this one.
Personally I'll only go for sushi once a week, twice on special occasions., that'll help out right?
I'll start from the top and work down. It's true that Deus Ex deserves at least one of the top five, and Half life deserves points also, but Final Fantasy 7? IV and VI did more with less, FFVII was a turning point for long time fans as it seemed that Square started pushing graphics over story (a move that is finally being reversed). Just because a game is graphically impressive didn't make the story telling better, it just made it easier to get away with less. I feel FFVII is one of the Final fantasy that gets over rated by graphics, and this is a sign of it. It was a good game, yet there are other games in the series that did more for story telling, and other games on the list that did more for the art. How about the Tales series that had completely fleshed out characters since the SNES oh right... they don't count because they only recently came to America?
Grim Fandango itself is worthy of being mentioned, but what about interactive fiction in general, we have a couple on the list, but there's a lot missing, Monkey's island (showing us story telling doesn't have to be dry), the Quest series including Quest for Glory (you don't need to tell only one story) Adventure, Zork, there's so many Interactive fiction that I wonder why Sims is mentioned when there's no story (if you want to make up a story, any game is good for that) and IF as a whole is pretty much ignored, though putting AMFV (a mind forever voyaging) on the list is good, I don't think it's the top of the IF list, maybe Bureaucracy or Hitchhikers guide
From the sound of it he also didn't play System shock (my personal favorite) and only played 2. 2 was a good game, System shock was an exceptional game in every way at a time when people were wrapped up in Doom. But at least it got a mention, though I believe it should be in the top 5. Shodan = fear.
On the other hand they didn't act like Halo created a First Person story, and for that I'm thankful. But how about Quake 2, the first FPS that actually had a real story. HL came later and was better, but Quake 2 deserves props.
I have to disagree with their list, and their style of getting a list, random voting doesn't seem to work, especially when it's supposed to be people in the industry, yet one guy's quote is from a college student, and many are Anonymous
There's numerous theories about how certain viruses got created. Some of them involve Symantec in some way. This is the first time they admitted it.
If you think this is the first virus Symantec ever created you're pretty naive, that's their business (basically to create viruses in test beds and try to find better heuristics for detecting them).
However personally I think this the most benign virus they've create I certainly don't think they've never released a virus to the public accidently.
"Three Speech isn't part of PlayStation, but it does get to speak to PlayStation."
I speak to playstation, a lot actually when I get frustated, they usually are crude remarks about it's mother, but I also speak to playstation. Listen to me too.
While this is interesting, it sounds like this is more pro-tehnology, then tech friendliness or technology understanding. Why isn't Maria Cantwell 100 percent? She worked for Real Networks so she know technology = good. The simple fact is just because a bill supports technology doesn't mean it's a good bill.
Then they take 20 votes? Are these really the best 20, especially when the top candidates only voted in around half of them in the senate? Or are these the top 20 that Cnet agrees with? The methodology is good, the analysis is good, and the facts are interesting, I just think that they could have used a large potential sample.
That being said it's interesting to see who's for and against technology and how they voted on a couple issues, I hope google hurries up and gets the GOOGLE VOTE or what ever it will be so we can look at exactly what every candidate has said and what every candidate actually has done with votes for the 2008 election (2007 better but it probably won't be that good at that point). We'll be able to do this type of search on our own.
My point is he's asking the WRONG company to do it. MGS has commentary on many topics since the begining, You can read in social commentary on many games even if it's not there. But just like we have something deep in some games doesn't mean we can't have an action game, and bully never looked like it was going to be anything like what they are advocating.
Rockstar is the wrong company to start this type of game because as it is most regulators arn't going to take them serious even if they try to be, they are sarcastic, humorous and vulgar at times. Expecting them to do anything else is misguide or just flat wrong.
Even as a game we can have an interesting social commentary in it. But in the end, games are about having fun, and Rockstar isn't known for their social commentary, they are known for open world game play.
I do agree Rockstar can use better writers, their characters aren't exactly inspired (unless inspired means "We just used Tony Montana and gave him a little Ray Liotta acting") So them trying to give a social commentary would be like monkeys acting out shakespeare. You won't get the point, but it could be entertaining, or sad.
Anyone expecting something better than what they got from bully needs to realize that outside of GTA Rockstar isn't a "solid company" they aren't even a good company in most respects. The best thing they can do is just make GTA styled games. If you want social commentary go talk to or read a 14 year olds live journal or blog. Want less angst go watch something like the basketball diaries. For the rest of us I think it's better we get fun games than games that are impactful, it's great when games are both, but it's a rare occurrence, and definitely not something Rockstar has ever attempted (noticeably) or is likely to exceed at.
"Beyond that, however, there are certain even more seedy individuals out there who unfortunately will do anything they can to scam you out of your money completely. They know that some consumers get desperate when it comes to purchasing a newly launched console and they'll do anything they can to exploit that."
Also on the desk of the big wig who typed that up, a report on how lowering projection creates more pandamonium, citing the PS2 launch. It sounds like the scams they are citing are their current business strategy to create more hype for their console and blu-ray.
Sony, the only reason you think people are trying to scam everyone, is you're already trying to scam the public, shape up. There's a lot of bad apples, but they wouldn't get anywhere if the actual number of consoles you were selling where even close to correct.
