    Why would they do that?
For now they've WON the browser wars.
They have 95% of the browsers and webpages are coded to whatever crap IE renders whenever necessary. No need to fix anything. No need to add anything new, no need to try to conform to any type of standard at all.
They have a long time before any other browser challenges them, so they might as well put it to good use writing proprietary lock-ins for people to stumble into and never be heard from again.

Quote:" And one of the most famous examples of an upset in scientific theory is Einstein's theory of Relativity verses the Newtonian theories most commonly held at the time."

This is such a common misconception it makes me cringe.
. Einstein did not come revolutionize physics with a brand new theory completely foreign to other physicists at the time. If you read all of the papers from other physicists at the time, you would see that some of them were already stumbling upon special relativity. They just worded it differently and didn't put it all together as nicely. His special relativity paper was *not* revolutionary, it was evolutionary and not a huge step at that.
The reason he became such a sensation was because he put the finishing touch on it and all of a sudden it was ready to be presented to the general public, and THEY were the ones shocked out of their shells because they were also the ones still thinking in Newtonian ways.

By the way, it's versus and not verses. You should try using konqueror sometime.

I would understand it being called a 'GPL violation' if the companies had called you, informed you they were using your source under the rights granted them by the GPL and would abide by the GPL license, then only partially complied to it. But even then that could be considered a copyright violation as well as improper compliance with the GPL.

So don't even mention the GPL. They are violating your copyrights. Any half-decent legal department will understand this regardless of their familiarity with the GPL. And if they don't I'm sure the courts will.

This is NEWS and the general public wants the news raw and un-messed with.

The general public tends to get very upset when their news is distorted in any way and they find out. Why do you think reporters are outright fired for doctoring pictures like that guy in iraq who combined 2 scenes into one?
Because it pisses people off to find out they've had the wool pulled over their eyes. This ain't no hollywood movie, it's news about how our money is being spent and NASA are the reporters.
That said I won't come down too hard on them because they always explain *somewhere* that these pictures have been altered, but neither they or the tv news shows explain that this isn't what you would actually see. I'm still not sure why they have to make it red. Give us what we would actually see up there and people will be happier. Not only this but if the pictures linked to in the story are the real 'what you would see' pictures, they are not only still red, but they are much richer and prettier.
