  1. What about things like GNU Classpath on GPL Causing Problems for Derivative Linux Distros · · Score: 1
GNU Classpath is licensed under the GPL with an exception:
Linking this library statically or dynamically with other modules is making a combined work based on this library. Thus, the terms and conditions of the GNU General Public License cover the whole combination.
As a special exception, the copyright holders of this library give you permission to link this library with independent modules to produce an executable, regardless of the license terms of these independent modules, and to copy and distribute the resulting executable under terms of your choice, provided that you also meet, for each linked independent module, the terms and conditions of the license of that module. An independent module is a module which is not derived from or based on this library. If you modify this library, you may extend this exception to your version of the library, but you are not obligated to do so. If you do not wish to do so, delete this exception statement from your version.
Would this also mean that people who use GNU Classpath in closed source applications would be required to supply the source? Even though they may never have used the source.

  18. Re:Multiple monitors, CRT vs LCD on Multi-Monitors and Increased Development Productivity? · · Score: 2

Uhmmm... I have been using a Multi-monitored system for a little over a year, I run (or have run) Windows 98, Windows XP, Mandrake Linux 7.?/8. On the Windows machine I have NEVER seen a gap (assuming you mean missing pixels). Windows 98 was designed with support of up to 9 monitors (I am not sure how many XP supports). The nice thing about the 98/XP setup is that it is ONE desktop, you can move windows freely (by clicking and dragging). If you have a crappy setup, dialog boxes may appear in the middle, but most software will move it to the center of the primary (or active) display. The nice thing about the 98/xp stuff is that it leaves some control to the video driver to control the multi-head system, if you want your desktop to appear as a single uncut desktop you can, if you want to have two indepentant desktops you can do that also. (i.e. if you maximize a window, it will only take up one display, so you can have 2 maximized windows)

Don't knock windows dual-head setups until you have tried a good setup. Buy yourself a Matrox G450 (or better).

Oh, and I prefer CRT with a high refresh rate. :)

  24. Re:Multiple impacts? on Odd Impact Crater found in the North Sea · · Score: 2, Informative
I would guess not, I am not a scientist, so this is purly a slightly educated guess.

Inorder to gut concentric rings like that with multiple impacts I would assume that the impacts would need to be a couple of hours apart, because the initial impact would still be hot, so it would just make the crater bigger.

Since Earth is rotating (15deg/hour) the asteroids would need to come from different directions, and the chances of that would be very high like, say 1 in 2^276709, so I would say that it was probably not multiple impacts.

    Did that make sense?
