I wonder if they can make a script that parses the finished HTML and strips the whitespace before the page gets served, and have a toggle to turn it off when the coder wants to see pretty HTML.. Buttheneverythingwilllooklikethis.Ohwellgottairono utthebugs.
Seems to suggest, he had to think like a machine, to beat (or pull a draw) against a machine. Fascinating. Also, nice pic of him with the finger on the site.:)
Unfortunately dd saves the whole partition, if the partition has a lot of cruft leftover from deleted files, they will also be saved by dd (dd can't see the filesystem structure and decide if the space is empty or used by a file). Doing this at work, we first did a dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda , extracted the Windows image from Ghost and then did dd if=/dev/hda|gzip bla bla . The resulting file contains info about the empty space, but because (if?) they're all 00's they won't take a lot of space when compressed.
I can't imagine managing a computer lab and taking more than a day to notice the advert.
How come? If the router is being used by a lot of people (in a lab environment), and the page only comes up once randomly every 8 hours, chances are, they'll only show up at a random user's workstation, who'd just click it away. And the admin wouldn't realize what's going on.
This looks like a move MS was forced to make because like always, it has to copy its competitors ideas if it wants to keep market share. Better remove the code that opens pop-up at msn.com as well, Bill! It surprised me that a website that's affiliated with them would do that. No the popups didn't come from Gator/Claria or friends. It's a surprising move, I'd thought hell would break loose when MS started blocking ads. Maybe Mozilla/Opera should come with Proxomitron bundled. Or the next wave of Linux Distros should ship with Privoxy running (but with enough warning on how to use it, when a user opens a browser window they should have a "welcome!" page with a link that tells them how to enable it.)..
Then again, there are websites with killer content that need a way of financing themselves.
Anyone getting the BSA ads ("Seen any pirates on the seas lately? Report them to us! Arr!") on Tom's Hardware site, or is it just me? It looks like a new aggressive campaing from the BSA. I wonder what rationale there is that lead them to choose the hardware enthusiasts as their target market.
The command is "net", which can be used to do a lot of things in Windows, "net services" can list, start and stop services.. I wonder, why doesn't someone start spamming the simple folks with the directions to stop the messenger service... open Command Prompt and type NET MESSENGER STOP.. although, it will probably be restarted at the next reboot. Wonder if NET SERVICES can turn off the autostarting of services as well.
Too bad they don't mention how lacking Diebold's security is, e.g. how easy it is to open Diebold's Access DB and add users/passwords, to change vote results. I remember reading somewhere, if the machine is in "election mode" and you insert a blank memory card, the machine asks you if you want to format and create an admin card out of it, and does so when you click/touch "yes".
This paragraph annoys me the most though,
David Bear, a spokesman for Diebold Election Systems Inc., one of the larger voting machine makers, said "the fact of the matter is, there's empirical data to show that not only is electronic voting secure and accurate, but voters embrace it and enjoy the experience of voting that way."
They embrace it huh? They enjoyed the experience? What empirical data, the one he pulled out of his ass? That's something he'd probably enjoy. Interesting how CNN headlines the last section with "Critics Mistaken"
Argh, I was being sarcastic, I was trying to imply the Matrix screensaver is so over-exploited it's becoming lame (reminds me of a scene; a cell phone beeps the Star Wars tune in my CS lecture, a guy comments (audibly) "Blah, Star Wars.", laughter. And that in a CS lecture!). But that bar in the heart of Capitalist Moscow (and the rest of the city, IMO) sounds like a cool place to visit, too bad I'm not overflowing with money.:)
All I'm saying is, maybe those are the features that Microsoft is building into their next OS, I don't endorse them. In any case, don't they have an idea where the DRM goes right into the BIOS, so that "unofficial" programs can't run at all?
Maybe not Palladium, but what's the name of the feature where they DRM the computer upto the BIOS so that no "unofficial" software can ever be loaded? TCPA, or maybe Palladium?
In any case I'm not saying that's what I think, but it's a feature that Microsoft would surely boast about... "No virus can ever run on our OS!"
What about their new filesystem, where files can be filed under many categories, meaning it has an SQL server in the background? Dunno what else, probably DRM that will come with the "Media Center" Why am I guessing they'll have PVR features built in? With an icon to subscribe to MSN-TV on the desktop, probably. And the whole thing will honor the HDTV Evil bit. Maybe the whole thing will be Palladium-protected so that it's virus-proof. That will surely take a while to develop.
Indeed.. funny what some schmuck general said the other day, the US needs to fight harder in the war on terror, the prize for it is 200 more years of freedom. Fascinating because of 2 things; one he only talked about the freedom of Americans, and that the US now is less free than before.
The world (especially the US) lives in fear of the next attack. That's exactly what they (terrorists) wanted, the terrorists have indeed won.
Also last week, some General said the US is fighting against Satan itself. Yeah well done buddy, as a Satan is how the Muslim extrimists view you, so you're no better than they are.
What I'm about to say is probably wrong, but shouldn't IPv6 handle such a mass-download a lot better? Say a server is in LA, you're in Atlanta and I'm in New York. When I download something from LA the data goes to Atlanta and then New York. Imagine that occupies one lane in the highway. And then you (in Atlanta)want to download the same thing from LA. That takes another highway lane. So the exact same data occupies the 2 lanes between LA and Atlanta, what a waste. It would be great if there's only one lane between LA and NY and an eavesdropper in Atlanta that copies the data that passes by. But it would only work when we are transferring the exact same segment at the same time, so the solution should be giant caches at backbones.. wow, no idea how to implement it, but that would make HD companies happy.
Wah, wah, I don't play the games because I think they suck or they're not popular here, so they must be anti-me!
It's also discrimanatory against the majority of Ethopians because they don't have the luxury of computers! Let's make Bush bomb Korea! Both of them!
Hey, can my team from Uganda play in your "World Series"?
I just read the last paragraph, you think they HATE the USA? What a self-inflated feeling of worth. They probably didn't even care that no loud-talking, fat-ass, whiny Americans like you attended the event.
Indeed, it's a political thing. Some countries want to be on good terms with the People's Republic of China, so they don't officially recognize Taiwan. Even the US government belongs to this group, there are no official diplomatic relations between the two countries (see CIA factbook entry). The topic came up once during the Clinton Administration, because the US wanted to get China as their trade partner they had to be careful about Taiwan.

I hope they show a link to this firmware update page on their "Try our super parental control!" page.
Oh well, people who buy wireless routers should be savvy enough to be able to figure out what's going on.

Do you really want to work for a company that's going bust real soon now?

and install the Matrix screensaver on them. :P
...with wires attached to their skulls which would zap them when it's time for them to flick the switch from red to yellow to green and vice-versa!

Are Pakistani chicks hot?
What's with the tombstone posters, I don't get it.

They sky... is falling.
It was more, Subcontractor C ran with the money, pissing off Subcontractor D, who was not under US jurisdiction. :)

Well at least we'll know one person who'll be going to Comdex. :o
