2.5 is a development kernel. It would be STUPID to run production systems on it... Many production systems still run on 2.2 kernels and have been up for years.
Linus is 'giving up' on 2.5 because he wants to make that branch of the source tree stable. Not because it's a flaming lump of shit.
Then again, I've probably just been trolled. But FYI for those people who believe him.
All word play aside, maybe this will end up in me being finally able to get my friend to install UNIX stuff on his G4...

Could be that the web server is passing it as text/plain and doesn't know to associate.torrent with the correct BitTorrent mime type (which i don't know off the top of my head.)
Coming from a background of Quake 1/3 and Counter-Strike, and even with RPGs such as FF4, 6, and Chrono Trigger, Nethack was sorely disappointing and boring for me..:|

I have to admit, for all that I hate Microsoft, Plex is pretty damn nice. I guess graphic artists are not tainted by the evilness of microsoft:)
But yeah, as others have said, lose the blue. Then again, it's a Windows tradition. They have some sense of pride I guess.
You can't really HATE windows now. It's getting better and better, though definitely I still would not forsake Linux for it:) Windows 98 and 95... Don't get me started on those...:/
Only two things! Hardware support (because of the big hardware manufacturers, and not because of Microsoft) for Windows is provided by each company that creates these devices. In OSS we all figure out the hardware ourselves and write drivers (most often) As such, half of my Windows hardware won't work fully or at all on ANY distribution of linux. I use Debian now on my laptop where I got lucky with the hardware support.
Games. Oh yes. Although new stuff like UT and UT2K3 and Quake 3 Arena has been ported, I can't play Half-Life on Linux without busting my ass for WineX.
In summary -- the support from bluechip manufacturers for open source operating systems bites. This becomes a loophole. Manufacturers don't support Linux because of the small user base. But the small user base is BECAUSE of the lack of manufacturer support. So until people go *nix of their own will, little will happen.
Firstly, SP3 is buggy as hell, really, more than most other serivce packs.
Many friends of mine have had their Windows 2000 installs WRECKED by service pack 3. Luckily it was stil possible to bootstrap them into safe mode and run the uninstaller (assuming of course that they had actually allowed the uninstall option when patching windows... I didn't the first time and boy did I regret it.)
I'm sticking with SP2 until Microsoft gets a clue. How could a product like Windows 2000 have been 'certified' if half of the people at my school have lost a lot of productivity time (read: quake 3 playtime) because SP3 assfucked their windows installs?
When I first saw this, it reminded me of the mechanism (it was called "Mr." something) that Doc Brown was using to power his super-delorean in Back To The Future...:P
But what I'm wondering how consistent the voltage it provides is like.. I say this because my MP3 player loves to die on me before the batteries actually do because of its voltage needs that alkalines can't consistently provide.
"Hey, Mike, got a recharge for my MP3 player?" "I think there's an old brownie in my pocket..."
For the record, O10int, the latest iteration of the orthogonal scheduler patches, is now available at kernel.kolivas.org/2.5.
:)
:P
People are raving about this one. I'd try it, but I'm kind of waiting for a 2.6.0-test2-mm1 which will probably include it anyway

Dependencies? Nothing depends on a kernel-image-*...
..., PROFIT!
Just build it from source, and install the bzImage, System.map, and modules, make symlinks, run lilo if that's how you do it, reboot,
I can probably make-kpkg one, but I can't be arsed to right now.

It appears as plain text to me too.
Just to let you all know that I have built Firebird 0.6-release into an unofficial Debian package that can be found here:

Won't it possibly make the computer itself HOTTER if the exhaust has nowhere to go?
Okay, i was kind of unclear.
It is *available* for the 2.5 kernel. Patches at http://www.namesys.com/pub/tmp/.
Sorry for the confusion.
Reiser4 is currently in 2.5, which should drift over to 2.6 assuming it doesn't screw up big time mid-transition..
The domain probably expired between july 2001 and now (see directory of that press release.) Still, this is pretty offtopic....

Yup, I was a tad wrong - when I had found out about it I forgot about this comment that I had posted. Sorry to everyone who was kinda fooled by this.
You do realize 2.4.20-rc4 was released as 2.4.20 without any changes. Hence, 2.4.20-rc4-ac1 is the -ac1 that you are looking for :)

I bet they have awesome LAN parties.
Does Rasky delete the spam he gets?
I might hold off buying a GF4 Ti4200 in favor of this baby.. *_*

Same reason why people DoS servers just to fuel their jollies, cheat at CS (oh god), or spam IRC channels.
Just because.

Well, he's not directly involved with the storyline anymore, but his character in the comic is still as drunk and trigger happy as ever. :)
The only downside to this is that you would not be able to blame your losses on lag =P
