  1. The Real Story With EA-MAC - Third Party Porting on id, EA Show Support For Apple · · Score: 1

Anyone notice how about 40-50% of the Wii games scheduled to be released in the next 6-8 months are Ports of PS2 and PSP games? Well it is the same deal with Macs. Publishers are learning that more platforms the title is released on = more sales - Look at one of the best selling games last year - Cars (on just about all platforms).

Anyways the Deal with EA's games going MAC is that they are having a third party doing it. So EA gives them the code and assets, and takes care of marketing. A third party ports the game and takes a sizable sum of the profit.

Its almost a no brainer for EA. It is a Win/Don't Win situation - they aren't really in a position to lose. They don't have any real investment into it, they established the IP and the product and it is up to the porting company to make the game run on a MAC.

I could see myself buying The First Matrix in HD for 27.99, but i'm not up for spending 90$ on 3 movies.

Also if you check the numbers again - they are comparing the sale of 2 movies to 3? - Huh?

Hugely inefficient, they are unable to run some of the test software EA spent millions developing.

In addition, the bug tracking software is made about twice as efficient by running 2-4 versions of it, the thin client only allows 1 version.

In addition to being painfully slow for most things they may save a bit of money for temporary employees - but they are painfully inefficient and frustrating.

On top of this a large amount of time is spent troubleshooting software that does not work on them.

    I'm glad I don't work there anymore :)

At EA we were working with internal websites and opera.

A website developer came down to test it on one of our pc's. With 256mb of ram it took Opera about ~90 Minutes to properly load.

He turned off the computer went upstairs and within 5 minutes had 1gb of ram in that PC. Booted it back up opera took about 5-8 seconds. And that was just for a 10 minute task.

Efficient, and the way it should be done. An employees salary - Time wasted ratio is way more expensive than the cost of memory or "The right tool for the job"

  8. What the Toronto Police Said About the Incident on Need for Speed Unconnected to Fatal Crash · · Score: 5, Insightful

Investigators found a copy of the video game Need For Speed in one of the cars. The game involves street racing, drag racing and pursuit racing, where players attempt to evade police.

The discovery prompted police to point out the difference between the digital world, and reality.

"A game is a game," Toronto Police's Det. Paul Lobsinger told CTV Toronto. "And when you get behind the wheel of a car it's not a game anymore. And when something tragic happens in a huge crash with a lot of smoke, there is no reset button. You can't start over with a new car and a new life."

I have been employed by EA Canada for almost a year now. I went through a "crunch period" and I've worked many late nights.

I do not agree in any way with the "Spouse of EA Employee" Letter that I read even before I got my job.

I worked hard to get this job, and EA gave me an opportunity that I might not have recieved from other tech companies; Now I have a long way I can go; and many career paths. Aswell as training from EA University.

While EA may have a bad reputation from the accounts of a few angry spouses; I love it here.

To get back to the book; remembering my application process I believe that this book would have been a great guideline; especially for anyone who is interested in the tech field.
