Hire only attractive female screeners, two drink minimum.
Turn this around into a profit center. As a bonus, flyers are less stressed. winning all around.
Seriously not a bad idea on the opposite sex screeners. I'd become a frequent flyer! I mean you'd have to give folks a choice because some would not dig it, but some would.
On the other hand, just doing away with the whole charade would be even better.
With IE that limited in win8, it's likely to push more IE users to Firefox/chrome/other third party browsers. Seems like an odd direction for them to go to me. As far as the evils of flash. Well, I don't need Microsoft, or you, or anyone else telling me I can/can't run some piece of software. If I want to run flash, I should be able to run it. If I want to run WackyPlugin 12.0, I should be able to run that too. I think flash performs somewhat badly, but in my opinion it still brings things to the table on websites that make it worthwhile when compared with the competition. If you're running an old core2 based system with only 4GB ram then perhaps you've got to make some harder choices about what you can/can't do with your computer than I have had to make.
It's a different economic climate. Most companies don't have the growing markets or high future expectation to justify hiring more people, especially in the expensive developed world.
But it's pretty shitty news if you're a worker or a long-term investor in said company. And it's even worse news if you're out of work and looking for a job.
So what? Should Slashdot only deliver good news from now on? Is this a religious thing where we make insincere genuflections to the people who are out of luck?
He never said Slashdot shouldn't report it, just that it was bad news. Call a spade a spade, I say.
If you get caught selling fake cisco equipment you're not going to white collar resort prison. You're going to federal pound me in the ass prison.

I assume lithium battery was licensed as well, yet we use it, if there is need for it it will be used. If Iphone can be thinner because of it i doubt that apple will let a patent get in the way of their new design,.. the world is craving for better batteries if they are worth the change,.. you will see the change.
Apple will probably make one with rounded corners and re-patent it.
It's not too clear from the title but the article is referring to internet connections, not home/business networks.
Interesting catch, I missed that tidbit when reading it and was about to poo poo all over the article. If your LAN isn't gigabit these days, you're sorely out of date.
Except that the real reality is that Apple ripped off the design of many tablets that came before it.... Damn those pesky facts, they always get in the way of a good argument!
So you are saying that the problem is that Google creates a demand for knowledge...
No, I am saying that google's point about being green because they prevent trips to the library is invalid because trivial searches like my example are both not worth going to the library for and trivial tidbits like that wouldn't be in the library anyway. Quite simply; the justification Google provided for creating all that waste is poppycock.
Perhaps every time you use google, it's to research some important thing that will benefit society, but I'd have to guess 95% of my google searches are either for shopping or trivial stuff that really doesn't better me or anyone else.
As if the issue of micro stuttering hasn't already been covered in great detail numerous times in the past. I ran sli for a while, if it's a problem then features like vsync can help. If you are only running one GPU like 99.9% of folks out there then you don't need to waste your time on this article.
FWIW, FPS is still a fine benchmark. Like any benchmark, it only tells part of the story. That's why you use tools like 3dmark that run a battery of benchmarks to aggregate a rating, and then measure actual performance in games/applications. Review sites seem to have caught onto this say.. 15 years ago?
OTOH, taking an idea that was not at all available to most people for several reasons, and making the effort to bring it to the masses - should that not have a reward?
Absolutely, but manufacturing and selling something that is in the public domain be it hula hoop or pencils does not require an (invalid) patent. Patents do not help you manufacture or sell products, they only help you keep others from doing it as well.
. Google says people should consider things like the amount of gasoline saved when someone conducts a Google search rather than, say, driving to the library.
Sure, because the guy who just searched Google to find out what goatse is would clearly have gone to the library to look up such trivial information had Google not been available....
I don't understand why the Republicans hate to see blue collar people with middle class lifestyles. Labor unions built the American middle class and are often the only leverage against a race to the bottom. Government worker union are really the the only stability for Americans who's boss can change every couple of years. The continued GOP assault on unions is not to some some status quo, but an effort to pull the rug out from millions of Americans. Nothing but a corporate cost saving method spread across our entire society; right wing social engineering gone amok. Yet even in that reality they continue to charge into a narrative of past corruptions (never any balance of big business's past evils, of course), placed into the lives of namesakes. It's the approach of a school yard bully, particularly one intent on creating chaos. Will middle America continue to stand for such foolery? or for how long.
It's really not that much of a stretch. Republicans hate America, plain and simple.
Obviously, rather than compiling to js and running on the the preinstalled JIT, we should have runtimes for ruby, python, lua, PHP, Perl and every other scripting language under the sun installed on our mobile devices. Makes no sense from an engineering perspective but mercy be that people who are irrationally and emotionally invested in a pet language will STFU!
You seem irrationally and emotionally invested in javascript.
If javascript is the only runtime preinstalled, using javascript seems like a pretty rational thing to do to me...
Well along with gaming on a netbook there's finally some other use for onlive. Pity that Linux users would have to put up with low end settings for games, but at least there are some decent titles now available to them.
Was Apple ever expected to support Flash in Windows 8?
Uh, what? :)
No, but I expect Adobe will.

People who want their Windows 8 tablet to have a real world battery life longer than two hours?
So, what - 4 or 5 people?
I think you overestimate the sales potential for windows8 tablets.

I wonder how many of the people who stayed just picked a cheaper subscription option that didn't include streaming?
1) Bait 2) Switch 3) ??? 4) Profit!
I went streaming only; the physical media via mail doesn't really appeal to me anyway.

I take it you haven't heard of the Android NDK. You can compile native code - not everything has to run in the virtual machine environment.
I guess the devs that chose to use the NDK will soon suffer in the form of a reduced audience; assuming Intel's plans work out, that is.

All I know is I'm heading down to the patent office to patent the four door car tomorrow. It's sure to hold up in Germany!

Wow, the 'conservative' crap flood continues.

That's the trouble with tribbles, they're terrible.
Three possibilities:
1) Moore's Law broken
2) This won't see the light of day for a LONG time
C) They are exaggerating.

World of Warcraft loot ninjas.
In his defense he said effort, not results.
