Actually, since Jobs got back to Apple, he's not especially disappointed Apple users : there was the iMac, the iBook, the iWhatever, the Airport, the G4... Each time there was a leap forward so I guess this will give the concurrence some nightmares. But you are right, until then, Apple took huge risks. It's just a good think someone did, otherwise the market would still offer prehistoric beeping-XT.
Microsoft partnering with HP (aka Compaq, aka Digital Research...) in order to make some new proprietary PCs.
This means the following: if IBM doesn't buy Sunbefore HP (who's also mentioned), then the PC market will be dead because Microsft will reverse IBM's PC specs opening which led us to the OEM world.
Meanwhile, it would be a good idea to buy Apple stocks, because they'll be the only ones who will sell anyway.
A typical Parisian doesn't spend 15 minutes per day in the subs but at least more than an hour. There are at least 10 million people who live and work circa 50km from the Eiffel Tower. If they can spend their 3-4 daily travel hours surfing the net or IRC-ing their f3ll0ws, then they'll find it easier.
Though the above fr1st-ps0ter have been modded as offtopic, I can't help thinking his answer is an exhaustive summary to the submitter's question: Why would the software industry be dead ? Do you really think there's nothing else to be invented in software ? Well, maybe your father did this mistake once, before Apple democratized the very first consumer GUI. What could be invented, now ? Hmmm... Computers that don't think but foresee. 3D GUI with appropriate eye-movements-driven control, p2p PDA that'll obsolete phone companies, unless they turn their phone network into a quicker-than-internet network... There could also be some huge evolution in term of ergonomy : just give your mother ms-word. How long will it be until she calls for help ? As long as people will be unconfortable with some tasks, there will be evolution, it's darwinian. So, definitely, the above answer is correct.
excuse me, how has this been marked twice(*) as funny ? he should at least have written it "zoooooooooooooweeeeeeeeeeeee" so that the Doppler effect would have been taken into account... and why can't I post as anonymous anymore ? not that I miss it but...
perhaps you should have used the above mentioned land rocket to get to your computer ? BTW, how hot was the rocket, after it broke the record ? And did they have to liquid-nitrogenize it before the "race" ?
Something I really appreciate about this move from Apple is that they are actually offering the only decent point of comparison with GNUArt: Besides p2p which is illicit, they are indeed selling professional stuff whereas GNUArtists are sharing their own amateurish but "Open-sourced" stuff ; once people will realize they have to pay 7425$ to fill their new iPod, they'll also want to visit Free galleries such as ours.
So, we can only benefit from this "competition". Thanks, Herr Jobs !
Along with the very first Javascript implementation. I remember coding with this loooong ago (1996). My boss then asked why he'd pay me to play with computers. Now, his company's been bought and he's only a well-paid descision-free moron:-)
I do however have an app that hijacks the audio stream before the speakers and allows you to play with equalizers, balance, etc. Oh, and it lets you save the result as an MP3 as well as playing it through the speakers.
This app is called Audio Hijack Pro. Fantastic value for 30$ only.
If my ink cartridge is empty, it is dead, if it's disabled because of a scheduling device, then it is forced obsolescence... I know they won't repair my broken printer but they fucking don't have the right to schedule its dysfunction. See my point?
the cartridge I put in was a cartridge I bought 4 years ago, when my printings started looking like Venitian stores;-) But anyway, I'd be pissed : HP doesn't have the right to obsolete something I am willing to use until it's dead.
If I bought a printer to print train tickets (it's now possible to buy and print railway tickets in Switzerland) and I only take it once in a while, then I am sure this could sorta justify the 50$ price of a low-end printer.
And, by the way, if HPaq commercial judge the uselessness of something they sold to me then they're dead : a real commercial doesn't think about what I'll do with his shite but rather about how much money I'll be willing to give him. I bought my HPDJ510 in Nov1993 (see above, same thread), used it a lot during my studies and sometimes for other administration stuff. Now, I just use it very unfrequently so, they should also consider that people will probable use these more often then less,...
Nope, last week, I actually replaced a 7 year old cartridge from my HPDeskjet 510 (bought in Nov1993) : I don't print that often but I expect it to be possible at any moment. HP has sold me a printer for the last time, next one will be another brand... unless I find printer refills for my old ink cartridges.
Exactly, 2 years ago, I also bought a Debian GNU Hurd CD... We could also consider that OSX Fink is a Debian port. so not only:
Debian != Linux but also
Debian != OS

Maybe he used a salon cdda writer or a standalone cd-copier...
this is beginning to look like clean Qt/C++ code...
Especially the iterators, etc.
Are Sun "inventing" an "interpreted" C++ ?

On the other hand, he can create an international organization which might get better fundings from the UNO's medical organizations members...

I am sure you got my point in the given context :)

whohooo, thanks to validate my unique exceptionality :-D
No it was *not*a flamebait : this was *funny* :-D

Actually, ArcWeb, a famous free web browser for RiscOS couldn't render tables but easily rendered frames. :)
Safari is also a wonderful popup /dev/null/er.

As you saw, the keyword here is context.

Will it finally play OGG... ;-)
Oups, sick joke, I meant : will it finally run Fruity Loops or even Cubase ???
this is hilarious :-)
yes indeed
