    How are they going to force the massive computer companies to comply?

    Simply by making them feel obsolete with abusively power-hungry new applications, like DVD++readers, games, etc.

    Actually they give people one more reason to turn to Free Software : Feeling right.

    I download loads of music but only songs that I already have on vinyl records.
    (or also GPL'ed music)
    I spent a lot of money on these records years ago so I don't accept being called a pirate.
    Am I wrong ?

    At the moment I'll tellhim to stop, he will have to, but until then, he may assume I am either deaf or there's nobody home, in which case it can be considered as fair-use to "insist".
    The rest will be a matter of appreciation of each specific situation.

    What if the so called stuff is a device aimed at receiving communications from the outside world ?
    Now, if you prove the same spammer got you several times though you hit the unsubscribe button, then you've got a point.

    The ancient law forbids a person from interfering with the goods and chattels of another person without their consent.

    Hmmm... Now if we respect this like they did respect it sounds like,m thislaw meant : "Don't touch my property while I steal yours"...

    Examples:
    • Slavery
    • Colonization
    • ...

    So, my advice would be never to invoke a law that not only has never widely been followed but also is totally dumb: If you interfere with some people's Bell because you want to contact him, he should not sue you.

    So, I think this law itself is antisocial even though I agree with the fact we have to kick the spammers.

    but will at least reduce its impact : by choosing to invest in smaller computers using low-consumption chips, this will reduce the amount of wastes.
    Just imagine such a beowulf cluster of these.
    Now an interesting comparison could be made with cars...
    In the sixties, everybody dreamed of a cadillac or a pick up.
    Now, they'd rather look for smaller cars.
    I think wearable computer or power-palmtops spreadth will clearly result from such pollution problem.

    This argument makes little sense. Why would someone who think other races are inferior, be scared of someone calling them a racist? Racists do not care about that, or else they would probably not be racists. I think you mean that non-racists are scared of mistakenly being called racists for their positions on race-senstitive issues(immigration, to name one), which completely invalidates that part of your argument.

    I suppose you didn't get it:

    The problem is that these people are just being wiped out of (political) competition by other people who'll publicly call them racists, even though they are not.

    This also applies with a few jews who'll call nazis, intolerant people whoever might not agree with them. Luckily, these only consist of a minority.

    France had some big political issues because some politicians just got elected thanks to some extreme-right (us people would call them "moderate") votes. These politicians got called racists, or nazi and they can't even hope to be a part of the forthcomign campaign.

    Some years ago we had some similar situation when a journalist, Francis Rozange, got some acrimonious game reviews stolen, then corrected to please the announcers who would not spend a single cent for advertising in a magazine that would just let such disadvantageous reviews...
    Actually, the French law allow a typical magazine to be classified as information-press if its percentage of ads remains lower than 66%.
    Where that's becoming quite outrageous is that most "honourable" magazine maximize this percentage to 65% so that they get the bucks along with the status.
    Now, the problem with the press is that the newspapers mostly belong to some big media lobbies ...
    So, I wonder why one should be surprised of such headline...

    I have actually been using this one for months on a 2.4.16 kernel tree.
    The pre-empt kernel patch is actually the most interesting feature in Linux as it suddenly turns a server OS with a sluggish UI into a really responsive workstation with still impressive network performance.
    So it is quite good news to hear that it will be possible to determine whether we want our kernel user or services oriented by just checking a box in the Linux-compilation-tcl box.

    I met a guy who needed some interactive devices developpers who he could only retribute with a small percentage of his sales...
    And it has become derivated as Flash, IIRC so, it is not a bad thing to approach as it offers a new perspective in terms of multimedia programming.
    Of course, don't just learn one of these things but all the ones you have the opportunity to get your hands on.
    One of the biggest problems when looking for a small job is that most of the people who interviewed me got scared by my degrees...
    So, you see, better widen your abilities than getting depressed.
