More than that, the poor will then have more of a choice which job they *want*, rather than being chained to a job they *need*. Maybe others are different, but I am always more motivated when I'm at a job that energizes me instead of just giving me enough to eat.

Not to mention, tearing down the whole thing might be the best way to fix it and is worth considering. When a system is fundamentally broken enough, a full rebuild is the best option. I'd like to think enough software geeks would be able to relate to that.

  5. The obvious interpretation is that the Democrats wasted most of their campaign funds and can't be trusted with a national budget.

Given that Congress, and not the President, is supposed to control the purse, that's a massive non-sequitur. I agree that funds (and time) were not spent well. More to the point, given the recent budget proposal from over the weekend, I'm not sure who you think can put together a competent budget. Libertarians might be closest for me, at least in terms of a recommended spending amount.

  6. Does that mean America lost that battle already, or perhaps should I be less cynical?

  7. That quote by Pelosi was meant as warning shot to Republicans to get their attention. Making the point that a Republican leader is trying to set precedent via a (phony, even according to Trump) national emergency to cram through something he claims to want lets the next person to come in to also abuse that process. When it's a Democrat it could be guns. Or the environment. Or single-payer health care. Or anything else.

I'm pretty sure we can agree that any time gun control is mentioned both parties' ears perk up. Her statement caught your attention, and that was the point.

This can't be over-stated. If I had mod points today I'd throw all of them at you. Talk doesn't matter and policies do. There are a few pro-worker Democrats that I happen to like (something I haven't said in ages) that are worth voting for and definitely worth talking about. The only way to change things to help that change along.
