1. Please. We are all professionals. If you need to be in a separate dept so as to not hurt someones feelings... you have the wrong people. 2. Not saying the entity is NOT a full time job. Developers are not QA. 3. Most organizations tend to blow off the QA depts - so that excuse doesn't hold water.
If they were part of the process - from the beginning - there would be less time lost due to software quality. Work with developers within it's own discipline. It can be done!

Every software company I've worked for, the QA department was always separate from Development. Then the classic mistake was always repeated... bring in QA at the tail end of a project and expect them to certify it and find all the bugs.
They become fractious and ultimately divided forums that are the 21st century's version of the 18th century op-ed in that high-tech medium of the day... the printing press.
The Cluetrain obviously missed this guy's station. Sheesh... "I was just sharing it with 4 or 5 other fanatics". OK, buddy, then put it on your website and let ur buds download it... then pull it. You don't put it on BitTorrent.
Funny how GB's handling of Kyoto compliance includes trading "greenhouse gas credits" - basically the same proposal the EPA has come up with yet there is no outrage.
Sure. You see the short term gain. What you fail to see is by NOT taking the classes that a REAL university offers... foreign language, humanities, arts... you are missing out on an important piece of your overall education.
When I worked for AT&T, one could go to Murray Hill and it would be an educational experience. No "business requirement" needed. It was like a university setting where one went to learn from the masters.
Now... the masters are gone. The company as it was is gone. Who cares?
Newsflash moron... VX Gas is prohibited by the Geneva Convention on the BATTLEFIELD, too. And what about the innocent civilians that were killed because of it? And what about the mass graves?
I may not agree with the US invasion, but to debate Saddam wasn't a tyrant is ridiculous.
It is the best way to get data from distributive systems to/from the mainframe. So... are they going to write a COBOL interface from 3270? Without IBM's help, I don't see that happening.
For distributive->distributive, web services is all you need.
I don't know about that! The workplace, at times, seems to be a lot like high school. Pretty ladies/handsome men always get the promotions. Geeks will always be geeks. And don't ever associate with anyone outside of your sphere.
I've had to reinstall TWICE after their "patches" for OSX.
I'll give their support some credit... for OSX they have always gotten back within 24 hours and the major OSX problems they have put at the top of the support forum.
What a joke!! Another one of your Democratic Hero's who also happened to be a slave owner!
He made those remarks about Hamilton - his and Jefferson's enemy who also happened to be an abolitionist - which greatly angered these slave holding "gentleman". All the while whooping it up over the great French Revolution, of course ignoring the slaughter the eventual coup from Napeoeon. I guess he was their 'hero' too!
The brainiac developers I work with - who also happen to be socially challenged - are well compensated and are highly regarded by management, because like you say they are counted on during crunch time.
That said... I've seen imposters to the brainiac developer also succeed with management even though they are also socially challenged BUT have the kiss ass part down pat.
Then of course, are the grunts in the trenches. Highly compensated, also can be counted on to do the maintenance work, BUT are NOT highly regarded by management - other than they know they can count on them to FIX the brainiacs NUMEROUS bugs.
Yeah, well if you had bothered to actually READ any of the articles, you would know that the Indian government is as much to blame for lack of victims relief and site cleanup.
I once knew many people with a similar background to yours. One difference... they were neither smart nor capable. And they were the first one's let go and are now the one's you hear about complaining the loudest about the economy and the outsourcing of tech jobs.
Eclipse rocks. I even think it is comparable to Code Warrior's IDE and even Visual Studio. The plugin support is phenomonal. This is where Apple needs to focus, adding XCode plugin to Eclipse.
Clinton waited until the last month of his 8 year administration for the EPA to draft changes to the grandfathering of coal fired plants and the Clean Air Act. Bush cancelled that directive and has since instituted a new directive. And the utilities with these plants have moved forward with plans to add scrubbers.
You just don't submit legislation or directives without a plan by the utilities to implement. And I think that is where the greenhouse gas issue has to be treated with "credits". Utilities can buy tracts of forestland and keep it as such - i.e. no logging. There is no magic bullet technology to convert coal-fired plants to non-greenhouse gas. It just doesn't exist!!
The only reasonable thing that can be done along with the "credits", is to raise minimum requirements for MPG in automobiles and trucks. I see that happening during this administration.
What else is there worth playing? Even EA states in their earnings statement that WOW has negatively affect their earnings. Get a CLUE!!!
I've worked at places with "army's of Phd's" and they most certainly did not resemble Pixar's headquarters in the least!
At any "normal" office, only the executives get perks. Period.

Vibrating is the "other" useful battery powered utility that a woman can't live without!!

Go to see the Kinsey movie and seeing that Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi Wan are actually gay lovers. Truly Disturbing.

ibook vs powerbook is blurred right now. What is the advantage of the powerbook? Slightly faster processor and memory... video card. That's it.
I don't think that is enough to justify the price difference.

It was easy work while it lasted!
Yeah... those democrats and those unions really saved those lost Timken jobs. ROFL!!
