Back on topic, I'm not sure how someone could be opposed to a private entity like Tumblr deciding it doesn't want to be a web host for amateur pron sites. Perhaps they want to be... y'know... a social media site like they set out to be?
It's just M$ doing their usual song and dance - showing up late to the party to do a poor imitation of the innovators in a space, and being soundly rejected by consumers.
I liked the idea of the Nokia warship revival, but during sea trials they were reported to only be able to sail in concentric, rectangular patterns until they crashed into themselves.
Windows Phone developers were thought to be extinct, but you can conjure one up by working yourself into a lather and yelling "DEVELOPERS!" three times.
But the recent revelations about Facebook show that they will collect things that they know you don't want them collecting, and bury the consent somewhere in a general eula.
I don't want corporate microphones around my house from ANY company - LEAST of all Facebook
Holmes will have to pay a $500,000 fine and return 18.9 million shares in Theranos that she owned, as well as downgrading her super-majority equity into common stock. The CEO is now barred from serving as the officer or director of a public company for 10 years. In addition, if Theranos is liquidated or acquired, Holmes cannot profit from her remaining shareholding unless $750 million is handed back to defrauded investors.
She did lose billions when the fraud came to light, and will probably be sued into oblivion and never work in the industry again. That's about as heavy a set of consequences as you can put together outside of jail time.
I don't know why Motorola thought people, in this age of consolidation of devices and all-in-one devices, were going to buy these "moto mods".
People don't want to wrangle a bunch of attachments. Look at the hubub over Apple's headphone adapter.
The mods themselves: -A projector? Who is going to use that? Business people are going to have access to better projectors and use a PC. Regular people have no problem using a TV or holding the phone. -An improved camera? Ok, but obviously the cameras most companies embed in the phone is more than good enough for most people's purposes, since 99% of all photos are taken as snapshots, and DSLR is out there if you are a photo hobbyist. -An external speaker? Yeah, I can keep one of those on my desk anywhere, they're cheap and don't draw power from the phone, or make the phone more bulky, and for most people the included speakers are usually fine or they're using headphones. -Add Alexa to the phone? Why can't that just be an app?
The other ones are a "shell" otherwise known as a "phone case" and better batteries. Hey, how about you just put a great battery in the phone to begin with?
The whole idea is just stupid and it's no surprise people aren't lining up to dole out up to $300 for these things.
I have an iPhone 6 Plus, which will soon be 4 years old. It works fine. (I expect it will work better when I get the update that will stop throttling me.)
I recently cracked the screen, and I see that I can order the parts to do the screen and the battery at once for less than 1/5 the cost of a latest/greatest iPhone. I'll be doing that.
The phone companies' problems are now that they can't push new features that make the phones better in any really meaningful way. They're at the point laptops reached 10 years ago, where unless it actually breaks, you can use it in perpetuity.
They need to innovate if they want people to buy, but they just aren't doing so. And part of it is that we have everything we currently need. My 4 year old phone does everything I need it to do. I'd probably have a little fun with some new features, but I'm not doling out $1000 for negligible benefit. (Not to mention to downgrade to the headphone adapter but that's a different rent).
You want people to spend money? Give them something they want, instead of something they already have.
Apart from this, currency speculation is only really a viable way to make money at very high volumes and over long periods of time. Currencies are relatively stable under normal circumstances because they have a generally agreed upon value and are backed by something. The fact that bitcoin does not function like a currency but more like a penny stock should tell us that in its present form it really isn't a currency - or at least the market's own laws of physics have judged it not to be such.
Back on topic, I wish they would crack down universally on people who somehow manage to carry on 4-6 different items, at least one of which is oversized, when "One carry-on and one personal item" is clearly stated, and then cram it all into the overhead.
"But that's my carry-on. And my personal item is this conglomeration of a huge tote and a purse and a laptop bag and a diaper bag and a pillow and a large coat and a satchel that I'm going to shove into the overhead"
But I'm FROM Christmas Island, you insensitive clod!
FALSE.
2019 will finally be The Year Of Linux On The Desktop (tm)

Yes but I don't provide a list of everyone's bank account numbers to the entire world when I use my debit card.
If you're buying now, you already missed out.

The homeless people have better internet service than ever!
I can't wait to be watching TV and constant-

Congrats to Facebook on implementing something Gmail had 10 years ago.
Meh. He may be a nerd but he's hardly a 'hacker'.
Can we stop calling phishers and social engineers 'hackers' already?
Who cares about the ShamWow, I only bought it to get the SlapChop.
This poor woman was still hanging on waiting to see The Year of Linux on the Desktop (tm)

Windows Toilet is great. In fact I woke up this morning and my old toilet had automatically upgraded itself to a bidet! Boy was I in for a surprise!

I'm not sure what he's like in his private life, maybe we could ask Zuckerberg to present recordings he made with his telescreens
The supreme court just recently decided that the 2nd protects private ownership, not just militia ownership.
You don't even need to censor people anymore, just ramp up the legal risk and they'll do it themselves.

I'm sure Trump has something to do with this. (MMU!)
