    Ahh, never used an Apple product then.

    If there is a company that is more user-hostile than Microsoft, it's Apple. With Windows you can get shit done, it may not be pretty, but it gets done. With Apple you cant, especially if it violates Apple's idea of a perfect user. With Apple products, you're fighting Apple to get stuff done when Apple has not expressly permitted you to do it and they dont permit you to do much.

    This comes as news to me, having used Apple exclusively at home in our household for more than 5 years. We have no trouble getting anything done that we've ever tried to get done.

    Most all those users have all been taken away already, by Apple.

    Sure, theirs is also a walled garden, but at least the experience is user-friendly and not user-hostile.

    It does seem incongruous that MS has tried everything possible to get people to move from Windows 7 down to Windows 10, but then they do things like this which degrade the customer experience.

    That's certainly true, but I think the GP's point is that anybody who can afford to drive will still do so, because the car runs on exactly your schedule, and goes exactly where you want to go. The route can be changed at any moment and offers much more comfort and a more pleasant experience.

    Apart from this, even if parking is sparse, it will usually be much faster to drive. It depends on the city, but most people value less time spent commuting over all else.

    What's there to investigate, really? They admitted that they did it. The information is public. Is it illegal to write software which could be construed to have a useful purpose even if it negatively impacts performance? That could describe features of just about any software out there. Is this something we really want the government doing?

    The message played for the drill said "excercise, exercise, exercise" according to TFA, followed by the real message that would be played, which includes "this is not a drill".

    One would presume that someone who was paying attention at the time would at least seek clarification on the mixed message before sending a whole state into a panic.

  20. How do you expect these devices to do anything useful without being connected to anything? This is what they are. Google voice command. And unless you take them off the internet entirely, you'll never really know if they are phoning home (or the NSA) or not.

  21. Perhaps Apple will supply an adapter for the HomePod that lets you attach an Alexa device in order to make it useful.

    They do make the coolest adapters.
