I want to control my data. I would like to limit the amount of info. about me that is floating around. I want to specify what info. that I want made "public", "private, or "limited to social club." Have you ever filled out any online purity test? Would you want those answers floating around?
I don't care about some info. spread about me. I don't want my place of employment to know which tv programs that I like, or my political views.
It would be a great idea if some "rich person." Could fund a "Recycling Center" that happened to fit that 44 mi x 44 mi description. With a good R&D Budget and the Waste Not Want not as the Center's Motto, they could mine most of the nations trash. Actually, if they could get sorting cheap enough they'd mostly sell it back as "raw" materials." Great idea, too bad I don't have a few billion to fund it with.
Why should I care about Sanford Wallace? He made alittle abit of money and owns a night club so what. I was a spam king but got bugged by the anti-spam efforts. Big deal 1 down, lots more to go. Can we get some "News" posted. This is just filler lets move on folks.
Come on everyone think of it, where do we keep a tank of water? The toilet... We can have toitlet powered devices!
O.K. Maybe not. How about they shower? We could have a radio powered by the shower?
The kitchen sink? I don't think there would be enough flow to generate a useful amount of energy. (Maybe a little green light that lets you know the water is on.)
Imagine the things we could do with those stress balls!
Could you put one of these things in a straw? It would be great for kids yard toys. You wouldn't have to worry about batteries or that it got wet.
Could the same concept be used to generate power with wind or is the effect limited to "charged water?"
You do a move, your opponent counters, etc. It may be key-mashing controller-breaking fun, but the outcome won't be too different than the international rock paper scissors competition. Either you're good, or you're not.
I'd like to know how that is different from any other sport?
I have a question. Can Verisigin really do anything? Lets assume Verisign attempts to lobby and take control of the internet. Couldn't all those colleges keep those computers up and running without connecting to the commericalized net? Actuall,y the edus might be better off walling them selves off from the commerical net.
Oh, and while you are at it, just do this other SQL request to find all the documents marked "confidential" and this one to find the pr0n stashed away somewhere on the HDD.
Damn, I see an easy way of filling up those future 2 Tb HD's.. A PP Porn SQL Worm that searches for all videos and pictures marked as porn or with a porn related term and makes sure all this information is spread throughout the internet.
Would this worm be a good thing or a bad thing? I'd think the Regular Joe's would love having their porn collection increase automagically. Regular Joe's Wife might not like it though.

"They" could release a news broadcast and have it autoexpire on all "recorders" after an hour time limit and the "news" never existed. History could "change" and be formed into something that those who control the media want. I don't control any mega media companies so I don't know what they are tring to accomplish. (If I did own any mega media companies, I wouldn't be telling the secrets of how I control global opinion with my slanted media coverage.)
Essentially I think two kinds of people who like to play bad as bad guys in games--the ones who enjoy watching Bond movies and say "damn" when the hero gets off Goldfinger's laser table in the nick of time, and the morons with inferiority complexes who give nazi salutes just to irritate people. Draw your own confusions.
Oh about those of us that think that we could build a better spy trap? Other than it is "unAmerican" to want to play the "enemny" nation and what them to win, what is wrong with playing a game where you in charge of a radically different social structure? Isn't that the whole point of Civilization type games? Hey it's a game if I want to rule a country with a iron fist, using propaganda or other forms of mind control such as religion, why not? There is absolutely no chance of me be a chrasmtic leader, taking over the US and implementing a regim such similiar to Nazis. Why not let people play out their fantasies in games? I don't think it is "morally offensive."
Actually, it won't be that way because the parents that let consoles do the babysitting aren't interested enough in their children's lives to show up at a PTA meeting. Parents that care are the ones screaming about media exposure because they know that no one is standing up for the kids whose parents could care less.
I don't know about you, but I "frecking hate" being told what to do by those that have no authority over me what so ever. Hey, when I was a student I was fine with teachers, admin, and my parents telling me what to do. Now that I'm an "adult" I'm fine with government representives such as police, & DMV telling me generally what to do. Now for some other adult to come up with guidelines about what is or isn't appropriate for my children. I say "enough." Actually, I'd like less violence and more sex in our video games. It seems that the US is far more afraid of sex than violence. I have nothing against children learning through video games. I'd much rather them learn that way than physically.

3 Years? Heck if I got all the "major" businesses on a subscription model and my software "worked." You'd get one "upgrade" a decade. You know it'd be nice to be a monolopy.
1. Con folks into paying you by the month. 2. Promise them a new upgrade is just around the corner. 3. Profit. 4. Raise rates. 5. Increase Profits.
Here is my list of tech clothing that I would like to be developed.
A belt with intragrated wifi, either 2 Gb Flash HD or a 20 to 40 Heavy duty shock proof HD, GPS, and nothing else.
Undies. I don't really want any tech in my undies thank you very much. Something helpful would be diaper undies that would "monitor" body wastes to tell the health of babies or infirm citizens. They could also be used to "detect" illegal substances ingested.
Socks... I'd want one sock to regenerate the other sock that's enough to ask for there.
Bra... I'd don't wear 'em, but I'd say if you are going to put tech in there you'd want an intergrated breast exam to check for breast cancer. I guess a heart monitor as well.
Pants.. I'd want self cleaning (auto dry cleaning) pants with auto inventory. That way I'd aways know what I left in my pockets when I take them off at home. I guess color and texture changing would be nice. You could have dockers at work and at home you could have black silk slacks without changing clothes. I'd like more front pockets too.
Shirts.. pretty much the same as the pants. I'd want self cleaning (auto dry cleaning,) color and texture changing.
Gloves.. would have positional senors to determine where your fingers are. Would be comfortable to wear 24x7.
Glasses. I want my glasses to be my computer monitor. I'd would also like them to have built in speakers so that they could be primary video and audio output of my personal computer.
Just wait till "they" get color e-paper figured out. Paper isn't too off from cotton... t would be nice to have one nice quality shirt that would change to be what ever pattern you wanted. You could have "unlimited" clothing selection by have a "different" pattern applied to your shirt.
At one point in time, I'd have been known as a hardcore gamer. Know I'm barely a casual gamer. Its mainly for 2 reasons time & money. I spent a little bit of money picking up most of the FF series for PS. I have Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft II, Civ III, MOO II, & MOO 3. I've played demo's of newer games such as Wolfestien and C&C Generals. I have to face it. I suck at FPS. The graphics have improved greatly over Q2 & Q3, but I still suck. I'm sorry there is little ID can do other than make the game cheat in my favor to make me better. Now RPGs & RTS games I'm fairly decent at. Of those listed, StarCraft & MO II would most likly be the ones that I play most often. Civ III was o.k. but it just got way to time consuming. MOO 3 is o.k. but I had to force myself to like it. After getting burnt like that I'm after computer games for awhile. I can't afford a monthly subscription. I also can't afford to spend 4 hrs. every night playing a game. Actually I can spend that amount of time, but I'd like alot more immediate bonuses rather than knowning eventually my character will be stronger. FFX was really good at letting you max out stats, but along the way my wife & I had alot of fun. Those though monsters got easier & easier to kill. Of course you eventually get to a point where everything is too easy to kill and all your stats are at 255.
I thought the article was going to be objective. I was wrong. The guy is either an "average Windows Moron" that happened to end up with linux installed by a friend, or he is stretching every little thing to make his preferences seem better either way this article was posted purely to drive up slashdot posts.
I run Win2000 at work and WinXP at home and a linux play computer. The only open source program that I use regularly is phoneix. The only real reason I use phoneix over IE6 is tabbed browsing. I've tried Open Office at work. At some takes it is much better than anything else, but it is just too slow starting and saving documents do compete at the moment with word.
Interesting concept, but it would most likely be easier to just have on-site backup generators, solar panels, wind mills, or hydro-electric as the cases vary rather than for you to most likely pay double or triple for the "promise" of uptime. I wouldn't mind the electric company installing on-site backups and paying extra to the company for them to keep them running. That would be good idea.

All cars require fuel, and all electronics require electricity, but not all video games require continuous subscriptions.

This is on a par with "So which car would go faster, a red one or a blue one?"
The blue one of course because it absorbs more of the higher freq. light than the red one.
