Where are my mod points when I need them? On the other hand, would I mod "informative" or "funny, damn funny"? (used to ride a bike and drove for 14 years in Japan, four of which were in Tokyo...)
Not all. Actually, sadly, ENTIRELY to few. But, there are some "clean" events. I remember seeing, of all things, a clean body building contest somewhere.
Firewall rules... an outfit that shall reman nameless was demoing a product like this to my boss a while ago. I was asked to give their product the "once over". I mentioned the absolute lack of security as one of my main concerns. Both my boss and the people doind the demo dismissed my cocerns. Needless to say I swapped a "few" of the images in the middle of their demonstration. Hilarity ensued, and the boss man saw the light. In a way I felt sorry for the people doing the demo, as they were just sales drones, but their attitude REALLY sucked...
I have several 1GHz C3 boxes. I like them a lot, and recommend them to people, but, performance wise, they are not really that different from a PII-450. Well, depending what you use them for that is. The big difference would be disk I/O as an old PII is not likely to support the fastest drives. This being a laptop though...
Are you in the US or Canada? Because, if not, you need to go out more. My phone was able to take and send wideo about two and a half years ago; and, I was late to get one, as I waited till they were free. Having said that, I have only sent a couple vids, except for the "test" ones at first.
Entirely too much maintenance required for a "wife unit". I find that a "maid unit" is much more trouble free; simple maintenance, EASY upgrade.
Mind you, I have yet to try out a "wife unit" as I can't seem to find a try before you buy version. (No, "girlfriend unit" does not count.)
This is no different than my having had, for a while, "parked" a computer with a TV tuner in my folks' basement. That way I could watch some local shows while in Japan. I don't see the problem, my folks used to tape and send me the stuff, the computer just made it less troublesome for them.
Well, cost is a matter of perspective. The five minutes might well not be a big problem for me, but, my almost 70 year old father with a heart condition is less than enthusiastic about going down into the basement and then back up to his room every time he wants to watch some DVDs.(No, there would be no better place to store several hundred DVDs in their boxes.)
My "TV" is in my bedroom. My folks like to watch stuff on the livingroom TV, and sometimes, especially in summer, on the TV in the basement - it's cooler there. You can see how having all the DVDs, AVIs, etc in one place that is accesible from everywhere is convenient. No?
Because your NAS box does take way more space on your desk? Not that _I_ would even cosider buying this overpriced POS.
Here (http://www.century.co.jp/products/suto/goodfaith. html) is a four drive enclosure that I saw selling for about 24000 yen - 230 US bucks or so. Add your own 400GB HD for about US$ 350 a piece. The nice thing about these boxes is that you can select whether you want the drives seen as one big drive, or as individual drives.
This is exactly how I have set things up for a few of my "customers". It works like a charm.
The "problem" is they are totally dependent on me. It's not really an issue in these cases, but, I can see it being an issue in larger installations with a more diverse user population and more complex software needs.
On the other hand, these guys are paying me with pats on the back, so if a real money-for-service exchange would take place...
King? I don't think so ...

This guy is WAY behind. About two and a half years ago I used to have access to a "box" belonging to a guy in Korea... he was pulling in an avarage of 150 albums a day and had been doing so for a while. He already had close to 700.000 songs at that time...
OK, perhaps there aren't too many people like me, but, there are plenty.
As for how I paid for Uni, I worked. While many of my colleagues were taking five courses at a time I was taking only four and working almost full time. Did this three semesters a year - technically, trimesters, I guess - and ended up taking more overall courses.
There have been many semesters where I spent, basically, 9 to 17 at the Uni and 23 to 7 at work during the week, and 24 hours at work on weekends. When I finished, double major, I went on a trip around the world instead of rushing to get a job and pay off my loans, as many of my colleagues had to do. Sure, a lot of people had more fun in Uni than I did, but he who laughs last...
Left "my" country when I was just over 17. Knew nobody in the new world. Learned the lanuage and cultutre, went to Uni., etc. No problem. After a while I went to Japan; yet another "alien" culture. Learned the language and some of the culture, worked, etc. No problem. I am not special and nowhere near unique; there are millions of people who do this kind of stuff all the time...

you go camping where there's aphalt? Wow! :-)
I drive a diesel and have NO problem finding fuel. Sure, you don't see it at every corner station, but NO problem even in the middle of nowhere.
I drive all over the West coast; where do you live?
Wireless CAN be the right answer. With the proper scurity measures in place, that is.

Indeed. Of course, the *AA people were not aware of this fact, and the timing of their actions is purely coincidental. And monkeys will ... :-)
Yeah, but it's not sold with Linux preloaded. ;-)

C++'s creators are also in trouble. ;-)

Doing that already. Although, at this rate, I will need to work in a couple/three years. :-(
Err ... except that 1.3m split three ways is only 400 thou plus change. Here in Vancouver, B.C., that wouldn't even get you a decent house. :-(
I am intrigued by your ideas and wish to subscribe to your newsletter. :-)

Yeah, whereas now I have to rely on my bladder to "delete" the commercials.
Some companies will eventally get it. Of course by then it will be to late for most of them. Good riddance I say.

I have the 2HD version and I couldn't be happier.
In my case, because it's the simplest way _for me_ to reward the content creator.
