Unless you recently purchased a Sony VAIO VGN-650N - a beautiful carbon fiber laptop - until a few weeks ago, Sony yielding under consumer pressure posted drivers for XP - up till then I had successfully found drivers (or somehow adapted a like driver) except for the following:
1. The Dialup modem 2. The built in camera 3. The backlight dimmer (very important for power consumption)
additionally several things were just hosed - like the fact that inserting headphones did not disable the laptop built in speakers - a fact that I discovered after subjecting everyone in first class on Delta flight to the Chronicles of Riddik
all these things are working now BUT until a few weeks ago they only worked under Vista
kind of a weird tag line - but basically the US built Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) which the UK is buying has this feature for all the pilots that are lucky enough to get to fly this beast - most cool - although it might be a good ticket to air sickness:-)
I have actually done what you suggested with a Hughes DirectWay and an AP with a directional antenna - worked great - the Satellite relay was about a 1000' from the system that required access to the internet
The darkest - best sky I have ever seen - in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean its pretty dark ! I remember how easy it was to see all the space junk flying overhead - and some nebula's and galaxy's could be discerned with the un-aided eye.. Too cool. Light pollution sucks...
I've actually used this touch table and it works exactly like you want, if you rotate your two fingers while pulling them apart it will zoom AND rotate - if you just plant your fingers and rotate them about an imaginary point between your fingers the display will rotate about that point - the interface is very intuitive and easy to master in seconds
A lot of comments saying that the US is not a free country - So "free" countries have to let anybody cross their borders ? There are rules governing entry for work, vacation, etc. Every single country in Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and every other place I have ever been has the same requirements or much more so. If you want to visit the US, follow the rules, or don't bother coming - I would expect no different treatment in any other country that has the sense to control its borders....
I have NO idea why everyone is against this - it is NOT a big deal almost every modern country has good ID cards - I for one have so many forms of ID I can hardly keep them straight - passport, drivers license, CAC card, social security, voters registration, and three different work ID's - my fingerprints and retina are on file in who knows how many places - and yet with all that I STILL have to fill out the same stupid forms every time I visit a Doctor - At this point just stick a freaking chip in me please or give me ONE ID card !!!!!
I know it goes against the current liberal anti-Bush Slashdot crowd - If you aren't doing illegal activities over the phone / airwaves / Internet then why worry ? - They could probably get more useful stuff out of your garbage can. As far as I am concerned the NSA/CIA/FBI/??? can wiretap and monitor me to their hearts content I promise it will not only be useless but incredibly boring.
As I recall from the last season of Lexx - discovery of the Higgs Boson actually accounts for one of the many ways that a society annihilates itself before they can realize that they are not alone in the universe....
How about the government stop giving money to universities that do any research that has any possible application to weapons/energy/advanced materials/particle physics - they can give the money to defense contractors and while it will cost more money than student slave labor we can all rest easy at night knowing that we will be safe - of course the professors that teach these subjects will either have to find new things to work on unrelated to the areas above or go to work for said defense contractors (assuming they are US citizens who can get a security clearance) or they can start working for other governments - with no students doing any relevant research that will get them a job with said defense contractor my job will be safe for years to come !! I am sure the FBI would go along with this plan !!
I think that for this to work you would need a widely distributed series of base stations so that you could compute your position like the old Loran C - I don't see how it could work with one base station, the ambiguities would be nearly impossible to resolve unless you integrated for a VERY long time - and thats probably not practical for fast moving submarines - doppler has to be accounted for as well, and probably salinity and multipath - the more I think about this the harder it seems it would be....
based on my own experience, and a quick zoom in on the picture, the black signature of the boulders appears to be due to shadows cast by the boulders - not any kind of temperature differential.
watched it live from my front yard in Titusville - the wind was perfect and it was the loudest launch I have heard in a long time - my garage door was rattling for a good 5 or 6 minutes - perfect launch for the 4th of July !!
Both M-Systems and Memtech have solid state disk drives that implement NSA and NISPOM approved methods for secure hard drive erase - and they can erase the entire drive in under a minute -
The workers are usually housed in company towns, and end up paying a lot of the money they earn back to the company for food, lodging, etc. We accidently got off of the highway near one and it was a very depressing looking place (they are built far from the areas where the Emirates live) But UAE has no problem getting people to come to their country despite that, may are coming from FAR worse situations. UAE is actually a very beautiful country with very nice people and while I don't think I would go for a very long term assignment there it is very much worth seeing and experiencing.
and BTW if you read this NASA press release it says that the SuitSat idea was "Russian Brainstorm" to do something with all the old Soviet spacesuits laying around (I assume as a money making venture) this does not have much of a conspiracy theory feel to it IMHO, but I guess one could say that "In Soviet Russia the Spacesuit wears You !!"

So I disagree with your statement

I just can't believe that there is a good paying job out surfing porn sites - and to think I have been doing it for free for years
Maybe its not a planet at all - maybe that solar system had a binary star and the inhabitants built a dyson sphere around the second star ???

Here is a simple way we can solve this issue -
How about the government stop giving money to universities that do any research that has any possible application to weapons/energy/advanced materials/particle physics - they can give the money to defense contractors and while it will cost more money than student slave labor we can all rest easy at night knowing that we will be safe - of course the professors that teach these subjects will either have to find new things to work on unrelated to the areas above or go to work for said defense contractors (assuming they are US citizens who can get a security clearance) or they can start working for other governments - with no students doing any relevant research that will get them a job with said defense contractor my job will be safe for years to come !! When you have the guy who invented the Internet as your VP who needs anyone else...
it will be OK - they said they are going to go there at night...

Not that there is anything wrong with that.....
