Good questions - I can answer them: We will/always/ accept ads for competitor's to VA. Slashdot and the rest of the web sites are going to be in their business unit, and we're going to operate in much the same way. Frankly, the way the web advertising operates we want to get everyone we can, because we have all sorts of ad space to sell.
I am the Way, The Truth, and The One True Hemos. Only through me shall the hemos be dispensed, and thus only through me shall the Hordes of hemos control the earth.
Folks, I know a bunch of you are worried about what will happen, and whether this is going to change things.
It will.
We're getting new servers. Seriously, things are going to stay the same - the backend will get some more power, but I'm still going to post Athlon stories, Red Hat stories and whatever else strikes my fancy. You know how to get in contact with us if soemthing seems out of place to you - and I trust that you will do so.
When Slash was written, the main core of it rather, PHP wasn't where it is now. Perhaps if PHP had been better developed at that point, we would have used it - but it wasn't, so....
Preface this with my statement that I was a British history major.
Anyway, I know there's a lot of ill-will towards the US post-WWII. Especially in light of the US actions towards Israel and Britain with the actions in Egypt, it's interesting that the two nations have remained such close allies.
However, I think, as someone else pointed out, that a lot of the reason the US did that was realizing the mistakes of the Versailles Peace. And after the Soviets "turned" the Marshall Plan into a seeming plan of US-imperialism, it became critical to get the Germany back on its' collective feet to defeat "The Red Menace". Britain, as a fellow victor, wasn't seen as needed the same help.
Some of the old stuff is still to Amazon, because it's difficult to change 300+ reviews. But we're going to be working with fatbrain.com. B&N is just as bad, in their own special way.
Most because I filter out the medicore reviews. Since we don't publish a huge amount of reviews, it makes sense to point people to good books. If something is really terrible, we try to point it out.

that's really funny. I like that line - I'm going to have to appropriate it.

It stays in existence as long as Rob and I stay there.
Spiny,
I didn't review it - the reviewer is listed in the box up at the top.
Brett,
We'd like to - but that's what the whole two-week nomination process was for. We've simply schelped what people nominated in the highest degree.

Tranquilo vato - The Solaris story will be coming soon.
Great - numbers one-four we've done before, five is old news, we've not done 6-8, and the rest we've posted before.
OK. I can see why you'd want, but that has no bearing on what's submitted, or what news is being made.
That's the point I was trying to make about the sections - there's stuff in there that doesn't appear on the main page.
Truly one of the best posters around - I concur.
Hehe. If you want to locate tech news on Christmas, be my guest.
will be out soon - with fully articulating arms! And if you pull the string I'll say: "Nanotechnology - to infinity and beyond!"

No, I do. I just happen to have my girlfriend's computer availible.

I agree - I dislike dit.
Nope - I just like it. And I did warn them. I don't post about stuff that I get paid from. Mostly because I'm not paid by anyone. :)
Can't. It'd be a massive amount of load on the servers - maybe someday, but not right now.
Heh. That's been lotsa changes over the last year - they are just subtle. Meta-moderation was a pretty big change, tho, IMHO.
Trying working within Everything. Everything.blockstackers.com - the new verison is out in about 5 days. It'll be much, much ,better
We'll be posting a review next week.
