Or, maybe we just need to put some thought into writing and grading papers. God forbid we have to do some work to generate new ideas. :-)

What if the paper's intent is not to generate new ideas, but to prove in an essay that you learned something?

My philosophy professor uses turnitin.com. After getting a low score for NOT using enough quotes to back up my statements in my first weekly paper, I went from 7% "plagiarism" to 20% "plagiarism" by using quotes, according to turnitin. I actually got better grades on the more recent papers.

  6. Re:RTFA - not bleaching on Amiga Community Collaborates On Restorative Gel To Brighten Your Old Plastic · · Score: 1

It IS bleaching, dipwit. Simple chemistry.

I don't think by definition it is. The process restores the plastic color by removing (or reversing) the yellowing process. When dark hair gets "sun bleached", you don't attack the hair with a bleaching process again to restore the dark color.

For the plastic, they are reversing the effects of the bromine "free radicals", created from UV exposure, that move to the surface of the plastic in search for oxygen to bond to. The bromine content, and it's location in the ABS plastic, is what's creating the yellowing.

The chemical process replaces the oxygenated bromine (bromide?) with hydrogen. You now have bromine bonded with hydrogen. This has both a stronger bond than with oxygen, and changes the chemical properties (it's not yellow anymore). The original plastic color remains.

The programmable microprocessors of today (PIC, Amtel, etc.) are not far removed from the concept of the open architecture of the C64.

If remaking the Commodore BASIC for scripting is wrong by majority opinion, maybe the remake could be used as a programming language to compile code for the above microprocessors. Just rewrite the memory map.

It would allow older programmers (like me) to work on/with modern devices in a more familiar environment.

It made indirect entry of machine language a component of BASIC and help keep that idea, as a viable option, in the minds of programmers. Other basics had PEEK and POKE to do that, too, but it tended to be an afterthought for programmers on those platforms. As a frugal programmer (couldn't afford good assembler software), I hand coded lots of machine language into DATA statements, conveniently entered via BASIC.
