  1. Rarities Reprinted on Top Ten Most Collectible Video Games · · Score: 3, Interesting

Activision recently released Activision Anthology for PS2. In addition to almost all the Activision line, some Imagic, and an Atari game or two, it has a couple games called Kabobber and Thwacker that were either not USA releases, as they don't sound American, or they were prototypes.

This shows that: 1) there is a market for crappy old games, 2) there is a way to get crappy old unreleased games, 3) the rarest games are still out there, and 4) I'm dumb enough to buy it.

I can't say I'm not enjoying the old stuff, but Laser Blast is way too boring to go for the !!!!!!! score. I can't believe I ever did that.

This is a me too response, but this didn't even need a poll. That tall glass of "no kidding" is the really obvious: people want the maximum use out of items they buy. It's silly to even consider that consumers would want less functional anything, like a microwave that only heats up Banquet frozen meals, or e-mail you couldn't print out.

Deliberating on this issue isn't really about crippling CDs, is it? It's negotiation for lobbying and campaign funds.

  4. Virtual Fighter 4 on Keep Playing With AI · · Score: 2, Interesting

Virtual Fighter 4 for Sony Playstation 2 (PS2) allows you to train fighters to fight in your style. It takes quite a bit of repetition to get it to learn, and then it can fight for you and like you do. It is very reminiscent of the portable Gigapets and their ilk.

Most evolution happens by survival, period. If I have a genetic mutation that makes me immune to the effects of virus X or bacteria Y, but also makes me a physical weakling, I'm not the fittest nor the strongest. Yet an outbreak of virus X or bacteria Y wipes the stongest and fittest off the face of the earth. Yes, the survivors were stronger against the single factor, but overall, evolution caused survival of the weakest.

It's a dangerous thing to give evolution a consciousness, and not at all what Darwin had in mind.

Fantasia 2000 was as good on DVD as in IMAX. Shocked? You shouldn't be. First of all, cartoons don't get more detailed when blown up. Second, and most importantly, the film didn't take advantage of the size and shape of IMAX, which was the biggest disappointment. Third, to show it's not all bad, the sound was great.

Watch the scrolling text at the beginning of any Star Wars Movie. Watch that same movie on digital, like DVD or Episode II in a digital theater. In analog, the text moves around visibly. In digital, the text is rock-solid. The entire film is doing this!

48 fps should be an improvement, but the debates against digital are anti-technology, and frankly anti-copying. You have to ask why this technology, as old as it is, wasn't adopted awhile ago? My guess is cost. Note the lack of technical detail in the article. My guess is that non-standard projectors will not be adopted regardless of cost.

The perfect fix for the PCS blues is to download Visual Pinball. I've personally used this with fantastic results and there are many incredible games available, all created by users. It's currently freeware (that self-disables with a hidden expiration date), but I expect it to jump into shareware or retail someday.

The main difference is you have to learn some basic Visual Basic Scripting.

In terms of video games, it's a great step forward. The game is more interactive than the typical sit-on-your-butt video game. It also tricks you into exercise. This game is best as an additional source of exercise.

But PE is lame. Its boring. The instructors are often idiots. I can't tell you how many times it was a choice between Field Hockey and Track & Field. Despite being a girls-only sport, I would've preferred Field Hockey to laps around the football field.

One more lame choice in a field of mediocrity is at least one more choice. PE will always suck to the non-athletically inclined.

Okay, let me get this straight. I can grab and throw the ball, I can bounce the ball, but I can't run unless bouncing except when I take three steps or less? If I stop bouncing, I can't bounce again without throwing? Who makes up these @#(*$ rules?

I think ATW has really bastardized the HP license and put out a lot of junk. However, they've probably paid a good deal of money for it in an attempt to look more attractive to future books?

Also it seems like Rowling has sold out with the merchandise. I wonder if I was ever in the position to make a quick million by selling out if I'd do it? I'd certainly love the chance to find out.
