I agree it's a horrible analogy. I wrote a paper last semester that directly related to some work some other students are doing this semester. I freely gave them my research thesis as a starting point for theirs.

It doesn't bother me that they get an easier start for their projects. It doesn't bother me because I learned a lot preparing my paper. It's not going to teach me any more sitting on my hard drive.

Are they shortchanging themselves by taking my paper? The professor knows they've seen my paper. She expects them to "carry the ball a little further". Then I get to see my project continued in a way I couldn't.

Perhaps this is off topic now. I just don't think Hilary Rosen knows how to share in an academic environment. Bad analogy.

She was probably the kind of kid who hid library books so no one else could get the information she was using so she could blow the curve for the rest of us.

GPS and Speed Limit Mapping is the biggest crock I've ever heard.

Did you know that GPS has a drift built in. Your position could be x and 10 seconds later be x+35 feet. If you're traveling at the speed limit that 35 foot drift could put you over the limit.

Also how can the Speed Limit Mapping tell if you're going 65 MPH on a highway or 35 MPH over the limit on the rural road running along the highway?

I had GPS on my sailboat. I never saw it work properly. I waited 2 hours once for it to lock into enough satellites to tell me I was in the Phillapines when I really was in Boston Harbor.

If we let these punks get away with breaking vandalism laws in protest marches then why not let vigilante groups hack to death any man they find who might have raped someone. Did anyone do anything wrong here? The police have the obligation to do their job. Should the DEA not do their job if it embarasses the CIA? Maybe someone is lying and we don't have the full story.

As for your specious reasoning with the other points, there is a law that police need wiretap warrants to listen to cellphones as you drive down the highway but do not need a warrant to listen to someone with a parabolic microphone or photograph in a public place.

As of last September I'm not sure if they still need the warrant.

In any event if you don't like the status quo then change it. Don't bitch about it. As for me, I conduct myself as if I'm under survailence whenever I'm outside my house. Which I do agree makes me a tool of the man but at least I'm on the winning team.
