But is the pentalobe fastener an improvement? Torx would be just fine and is used across the industry in small electronic devices. They even have tamper resistant torx that have a dot in the center.
The pentalobe connector is only used by Apple. No one else uses it. Most likely because it isn't any better. It only serves to sell new tools, or have some people that would otherwise have done their own repairs to take it to an authorized repair shop. The tamper resistant torx would have done the same.
I sometimes wonder why Apple didn't just switch to one way screws.
There are a lot of cases of functional prototypes made cheaply that need funding to make the finished product. Perhaps all your electronics are on a breadboard and you need to get some PCBs printed up and reflow solder all the components to the PCB. You might have some rough metal housing that's been bent together and you want to get some injection molded plastic case. etc.
It seems there are differences of opinion on what a prototype is. I don't think of it as the first finished product waiting to be mass produced. I think of it as a functioning, but very rough product that needs improvements to make it better and in a condition that it can be mass produced easier.
If you are comparing the two platforms, iOS and Android, you should compare everything available on those two platforms. Everything. Making silly distinctions about where the OS ends makes no difference to what can be done with the devices.
You have chosen the wrong sub-thread to argue your point though. All of my previous comments where solely about the availability of source code. I don't care what phones people use.
Now, whether the play store and maps apps are part of Android is an important distinction if you are trying to determine if Android is open source or not.
This is asinine. Who could possibly think that a guy that posted some comments online is more likely to go kill someone than someone that already has killed someone?
I'm not going with any sides to your argument. What part of my comment said "Linux is better than Windows|Apple|FreeBSD!"? I'm making no claim to anything being better or not. I was pointing out to a commenter further upthread why Android could be open source and the Play store and Maps apps be closed source.
The Play store and Maps apps are definitely not part of Android no matter how you want to define it. It is fully functional without either.
Google Play and Maps are not part of the OS. There's a difference between open-sourcing an OS and open-sourcing the OS and everything you ever wrote that runs on that OS.
Why would you want the Honeycomb source? Newer versions have had their source code released. Is there some reason you would want the older version that wasn't as good?
I can't speak for other cars, but a 2008 Cadillac STS only needs one key for the consumer to program a second. It takes at least half an hour to do, and IIRC, the car honks several times and needs input at various times throughout the half hour. A valet could do it, but they'd have to be at the car for a long period of time.
You can't buy another key at Walmart, so there isn't much way around the $200 for a new one.
They have the ability to find another market, develope a "game changing" product and then ride that for a few years before moving on to the next thing.
I don't know whether Apple's stock is in a bubble or not, but this kind of talk leads me to believe there is some bubbling to it. There is no basis to this comment, just some irrational belief that this company will continue to go up and up and up. Sounds like things I heard in the late 90's about various.coms, or things I heard just a few years ago by people trying to buy 2nd and 3rd homes as investments.
So, I'm not sure if its a good thing that 68% of the market uses 91% of the web traffic. Is it a good thing that iPad users are data hogs? Does Apple think higher numbers are always better?
We will never again hear those people's ridiculous theories that 3.5" is the perfect screen size. Unfortunately, they will find something equally lame to drone on about.
Dumb shit investors aren't the ones lending shares to short sellers. Brokers are the ones lending these shares out and they know all the rules.
Your arguement is inane anyway. The lender gets all their shares back plus some cash. Where is the problem. That was the agreement. You are saying that it is fraud to borrow something from someone, pay them a fee to borrow it and then return the object. So do you think it is fraud to rent a car? It's value is less when it is returned.
Even if you really think that a share price can be driven down trivially, if it is not based on real data, the share price will come back up and the lender is not out anything.
Did you lose a lot of money and short selling is what you want to blame it on?
Dividends are still paid regularly. See chart here. As late as 2009, over 70% of the companies in the S&P 500 pay dividends. Interesting, that chart indicates that the tax rate of dividends has an affect on how many companies pay dividends.
A lot of the stocks of interest to/. don't pay dividends. Tech companies have been notoriously bad payers as they prefer to reinvest their money into growth, but some of the old guard pay divs, such as Intel and even MS.
Interesting idea. So instead of long term vs. short-term. We have a large range of terms and the shorter the term, the higher the tax rate. This would definitely deter short term investing further.
It doesn't matter what your income level is for dividend taxes. They are not taxed at your nominal tax rate (they might be going forward, but not for the past 9 years or so). Well, your income level does determine the tax rate a bit, it's either 15% or 0% based on your income. This is for qualified dividends only, but the sound of your post makes me think you would only have qualified dividends. Qualified dividends are from stocks you hold for over 60 days around the dividend date (there are a few other conditions, but that's about it).
Actually, the taxes you would pay when you do sell stocks are not taxed at ordinary income tax rates either. They are taxed at the long term capital gains rate, which currently mirrors the dividend tax rates. This means you can sell off stocks even if you have an income of hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and only pay 15% taxes on the capital gains.
Your tax deferred growth with non-dividend paying stocks is a valid idea though.
Of course you don't see the fuss about watermarking. You just said you're fine with Blizzard installing a root kit on your machine! Waht the heck is a measly watermark compared to that?
I'm not making a judgement on Apple'stock one way or the other, but you should really push your parents to re-balance their portfolio. It may seem like a good idea to keep riding the horse that's getting it done, but there are too many people that have had their retirements ruined by being overly invested in a single companies stock.

Just post a picture of an unrelated chip and say its your prototype. There are a million ways to break rules if you try hard enough.

This might be worth talking about if Apple made anything that has NFC, but they don't.

hydrogen doesn't "pretty much spontaneously combust in air", unless by "spontaneous" you mean in the presence of a spark or flame.
I think that was the largest billy goatse gruff.
Push to start is spreading to more and more car makes and models. It won't be long now before the majority of new cars are all push button start.

Care to elaborate on why it's a bigger deal for you. Do you think the share price will go one way or the other based on this announcement?
UID and age don't have a strong correlation.

Better interface I'll buy, but more accurate? Are you saying the TI-85 and similar model calculators don't give correct answers?
Maybe the verdict will be overturned and maybe it won't, but it definitely will incite counter suits just like this one.
