Unfortunately, voting for a candidate who is opposed to "shooting kids in the head" will only quell one's conscience, nothing more. Unless there's even a remote possibility of such a law being repealed, all you've done is elected someone who may have other disastrous policies. Suppose they support more tightening of the noose around freedom and liberty (as many conservative politicians do, and , unfortunately, apparently democrats also - witness Obama and NDAA signing).. All you end up with is a situation worse than before..As long as the 'one issue' campaigned against has no chance of being changed. it's an irresponsible way to vote.

Allowing a global information medium to apply censorship country by country , so that citizens are not permitted to know the truth in their own country, is REPREHENSIBLE. Was NDAA not fucking enough? What the hell is WRONG with everybody?

I hope what you say is true, but the problem is that: 1) things will progress so subtly that before you know it, it will *be* a police state everyone is under, and as the military are also citizens, will be constrained by the same tyrannical rules as everybody else, subsequently having little or no opportunity to 2) confront the new *internal* military (perhaps an outgrowth of DHS), whose *JOB* it will be to fire on their own citizens if ordered..including, i might add, citizens in the military, in the name of "security".. and didn't the Soviets justify their actions against their citizens, on these same grounds? What about the Stazi? The SS? Did any of the regular army have any power against these either? Any student of history, of which there are, apparently, few in the US congress, would recognize the disturbing parallels between those regimes' beginnings and the current situation.. I must have missed when history became an optional course, for our countries' leaders, at least, at our nobel halls of learning..

We're in trouble, because traditionally, public outcry has never gotten any unpopular legislation changed here. It simply does not happen. Our representatives do not represent their constituencies, when in the governing party, but rather their party.. A vote of conscience , against the party line, will get you booted out of the party, and probably the cabinet. We all know who our current government works for, and here's a hint.. it's not the poor guy on the street corner, or the old pensioner in a dilapidated one room suite, for 900$ a month. I'd suggest checking in with Michel Geist's page, as he may have the most up to date info on how to keep draconian laws from being implemented.. We do not have an effective bill of rights to be worked around,.. the most oppressive legislation can easily be passed here.. Unless, of course,, all of you fellow Canadians *want* a SOPA like bill, passed here...

You doubt you will see 3$ a gallon gas? we pay 7$ a gallon in Canada..and electric vehicles are so legally bogged down in power and speed restrictions that make them almost useless.. I don't want to get int o all of it, but an electric bike, for instance, cannot have more than 500 watts power, or a top speed of 20 miles an hour.. I asked if I could increase the power to the 750 watts allowed minimum in the rest of the world.. I was told not without licencing and insuring the bike.. and i was told I couldn't insure or licence an electric bike.. Electric cars (as low speed vehicles)aren't allowed to have enough power to go on the highway.. So we pay 7$ a gallon to drive gas powered vehicles..After all, we supply the gas to a third of the world, so naturally, we pay more than they do for our gas (HUH?)
