This sounds like the vacuum cleaner "revolution" - you spend the same amount of time cleaning your house in the year 2000 as you did in 1900. You simply go over the entire floor with a vacuum cleaner instead of a broom. And now in 2007 we spend the same time following the Roomba, putting missed pieces of dirt back in its path.
Unless people were watching the washer and dryer as if they were TVs, this may not be any great gain to the average person.
