All excellent reasons. I have just recently experienced a failed upgrade going from Slackware 10.2 to 11 using slapt-get. I have successfully used slapt-get for dist upgrades before, but have found them to be successful due to use of a 2.4 kernel. I'd moved to a 2.6 kernel, and when I attempted the 10.2->11 slapt-get dist upgrade, the first reboot went horribly. Changes in the hotplug init scripts caused many things not to be run, or utilities filenames changed, or were no longer existant (upgradepkg won't overwrite existing rc files, even if the format of said files has changed). Instead of wasting time renaming *.new files, retweaking, etc, I just did a fresh install. I'm not impressed at all with Slackware running 2.6, and I've been a Slackware user for 10 years.
I use an M-Audio Delta 44, and can broadcast Skype calls live to an Icecast stream server, works excellently. This uses the Winamp Oddcast v.3 dsp plugin. The plugin uses the cards mixer out, and since the card has 4 channel simultaneous input, I can play music AND talk on Skype when necessary. Also, Winamps disk writer plugin can write wav files of the calls to disk.
As it is with any technology, just because something CAN be done, doesn't mean it SHOULD be done.
Time and time again, history has shown that humanity lacks the wisdom to properly deal with technological advances.
I did, they're up at linuxpackages.net: aterm, fox/xfe...I also have a better XMMS 1.2.10 (IPv6 support, and song change patch by Len Sorensen for XMMS Bugzilla bug #19860, four xfce4 plugins, xcdroast with wav patch applied (don't know if the one is slacks extras/ has that)...
My only gripe with Slackware is the lack of consistency with IPv6 support. I was disappointed once again to find that XMMS didn't have it.
*NEWSFLASH* "Regina - CP A rash of broken limbs has befallen this small Saskatchewan town due to frozen garbage not being picked up by its municipal workers. The workers have been on strike for a month, with no end in sight. Quoted one local yokel, "Muh wife done tripped over the dead sheep we had out front by the road for pickup, and broke her leg! Dang municipal workers!
With a ten month winter in its infancy, the frozen garbage won't decompose (or smell), so the municipal workers union won't have the sympathy of the electorate behind them while they try to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement."
While its certainly pleasant to see altruism be attempted, if the funding comes from the feds, not private sector, politics/bureaucracy must be involved. I wish the new administrator well, but I hope he's not so naive to think he can rid NASA of the dead weight of politicos and entrenched senior bureaucrats. No way in hell NASA will ever be free of fed interference when it relies solely on fed money.
There are always bad apples in every bunch. While I highly doubt YG's concern for FOSS is based in altruism, having Ms. DiDio in their employ hurts YG's credibility far more than some linux/FOSS zealots ever could. Nothing to see here.
Hmmm, in Bellsouth land, it appears no third party DSL providers have access. If I wanted DSL, I'd *have* to use Bellsouth DSL. So where's the equal access?
...
So the only logical answer I can think of to end all this suing and gestapo-like behavior is to get something truly done about the RIAA's monopolistic
actions (attacking them for price fixing is good)...
So is boycotting. But tell that to mom and pop sheep and their kids who are more concerned with possessing the latest lameness from Brittney Spears, or Korn.
A person is smart, people are stupid, this is a given, and why grassroots efforts are so hard so get started. Its no secret people will not protest against things because complacency is human nature. People fear change. Only if the transgression is grievous enough will people take notice, and stand up for themselves.
While the *AA certainly isn't faultless, neither are consumers. Relying on the government to legislate business models is not the right direction.
This is supposed to be a free market economy, so people need to speak with their dollars. Boycott *AA labels/distributors/artists. But don't negate the effect of the boycott by downloading copyrighted material. Then, and only then, will *AA change.
A successful boycott will show *AA a drop in p2p activity, AND a drop in their total sales, thus negating any potential claim by *AA that p2p is hurting sales when in actuality its their business model and/or their pricing thats solely responsible for the drop in sales.
And please remember, *AA are not the actual companies releasing content, they're merely representatives of member companies, their mouth pieces, and legal reps.
...Is spam still truly the problem people say it is?...
Of course, just because a user doesn't SEE the spam, doesn't mean the spam isn't wasting bandwidth and system resources being sent and rejected/dropped.
Support independent artists, listen to their music, not the MTV/corporate garbage foisted on the public.
Don't accept crap. Tell the RIAA with your dollars that you're fed up with their crappy music, and monopoly. Stop buying/listening to RIAA produced crap.
mpd supports ogg/mp3/wav and others.
However its not SAM or anything close to it.
www.enameco.com, they even have a "register nameserver" button, cool.

note: Balanced and unbalanced I/O :)

The first one looked clean, the second isn't responding, and the third looked too busy visually, with the text too small.
...downloads for my own music fell 4.5 % for the 4 week period before American Thanksgiving versus last year during the same period.
My whole catalog, in ogg format. Free to download. Free to share on p2p. Free to enjoy to listen to.

ogg files of my original rock music.

But ACs are rocket scientists, that explains NASA.
Here's all of Rick Dicaire's songs, freely available for download, and p2p distribution!

What if the "mutation" is actually an environment-based evolutionary adaptation instead?

My ICECAST non-Christmas stream.
uh?
Oh, of course, flamebait, my mistake.
Ogg Stream
