  1. Re:I Like It! on David Pogue Takes On Vista · · Score: 1

My main computer at home is a dual G5 Mac. I use it almost exclusively. It is used for E-mail, documentation, PhotoShop, movie creation, etc. It's what I use. I switched over to Mac 100% at home about 2 years ago, but lately I've been regretting my decision and am starting the move back to Windows now that I've experienced Vista and seen all the problems adressed that made me switch to the Mac platform in the first place.

Yes, Photoshop CS3 is available in Beta form for everybody. If you want to use it more than 2 days you must have a valid CS2 license.

  3. Not quite... on David Pogue Takes On Vista · · Score: 1

Crawl with it would be more likely. OS X doesn't even run fast on a modern dual core processor or dual G5's. I'm always having to wait on my Mac to open up windows and dialog boxes. I never have this problem with Windows of Linux of any version.

  4. Re:I Like It! on David Pogue Takes On Vista · · Score: 1

Wow! I guess. Well, I use Linux (SuSE 10.1 currently) all day long at work. I'm a Linux System Administrator after all. At home I use Windows and Mac. If anything I'm biased against Microsoft, but I'm not stupid enough to blindly write off a new OS just because I don't like a company. I give 'em all a fair shake. At this point I have to put Vista on top, Linux second and OS X third. OS X has some niceties, but Linux and Vista usability rates much higher in my opinion.

  6. Re:One "interesting" feature I didn't know about on David Pogue Takes On Vista · · Score: 1

USB sticks are not as fast as a hard drive, unless you have an ancient 190 MB paper weight laying around somewhere. The best reading speed you're going to get from USB are around 22 MB/sec. An average SATA drive will read data up in the neighborhood of 40-80 MB/sec. The write speeds have even more seperation.

  7. I Like It! on David Pogue Takes On Vista · · Score: 4, Interesting

I've been testing Vista Business edition all weekend and so far I really like it. I'm also a Mac user, so I can compare the two firsthand. Vista takes a lot of the nice features of OS X and does them the right way in Vista. The gadgets are so much nicer in Vista than in OS X. They're easier to manage and they work more smoothly. The Vista user interface is absolutely beautiful from an eye candy point of view, and yet it doesn't seem to take any significant performance hit. My Mac Book Pro is not nearly as fluid in running OS X as my Dell laptop is with Vista. Both OS'es are 64-bit also. Even Photoshop CS3 runs much faster on Vista than on OS X.

Microsoft may have copied a lot of features and look from Apple, but they left the bad, took the good and have a much better implementation in my opinion.

Now if only Linux worked this well....

  8. IE 7 is the holdup... on IE The Great Microsoft Blunder? · · Score: 1

"The only known site with bird collision problems is located in the Altamont Pass in California. Even there, collisions are not common" -- http://www.windpower.org/en/tour/env/birds.htm

I don't think birds are more important than people. Bring on the wind turbines!

Also, recently I read an article about a different type of wind generator that seems to be nicer to the birds. If I remember correctly it was a vertical spinning cylinder instead of a fan-type contraption.
  11. Re:Image processing/pattern recognition? on Stardust@Home Lets Public Search Grains of Dust · · Score: 2, Informative

I work with digital video images. People have been trying for years, if not decades, to write software that can mimic the capabilities of the human eye. Usually this software is needed for auto tracking and scoring objects in the field of view. Some limited success has been achieved, but even the best software needs a human to make the initial detection. The pattern recognition capabilities of the human eye are absolutely phenomenal. I doubt computer software will ever be able to replace us in this area.

  12. Science, So Called... on Scientists Figure Out How Bees Fly · · Score: -1, Flamebait

After reading the obviously-biased article I only have this to say. Evolution is a religion, not science. Any HONEST scientist could not believe in evolution (excepting micro evolution where various species can form). The various theories of the evolutionary process have been proven wrong time and time again, but anti-ID "scientists" so-called willingly choose to ignore the obvious problems with their theories and continue to teach known lies in schools and textbooks. I think it's simply an excuse to avoid admitting that they are subject to a higher power, that they are a product of ID themselves and thus have some responsibilities in life.

But that's just my opinion. :)

Ultimately, everyone is responsible for their influence on every single individual they come into contact with. That is why every individual should do their best to live up to a high moral code. After all, we're all created in the image of God and were created to live up to His example of righteous living and sinless nature. We just failed in the process, but it need not always be thus. :) We can overcome. In the meantime there is grace, and always room for improvement, but never room to shirk our duty or responsibility to be a good example to others.

OK, how's that for an answer? You asked for my opinion. :)
