It really depeneds on what area of the city you live in.I lived in a scary as hell section of Oakland for a year (though I wasn't so scared of the area until countless people informed me that I should be frightened).

I moved, but not out of Oakland-to a nicer part of town. It's like life did a 180. I live in a great area, in fact it might be one of the best places I've lived (and I used to live in the deep country as well as supposedly nice ANnapolis, MD).

A lot of cities have really bad reputation based on some or their parts. Like one bad apple that spoils a whole bunch, one bad section can ruin a cities rep. Not without good reason either-if you get lost and find youself in a bad place, well...good luck, kid.

Everywhere I went there were signs saying NO TO TURBINES. There have been a series of letters from some crank who writes the local paper who brags about how his education allow him to speak about the evils of scary windmill power (he has an ENGLISH degree) and how that qualifies him to say things like, "Windmills spook the local cows and they will not make milk, or they will make cancer milk!" and other alarmist and ignorant crud like that. Of course, the health of children is at risk too, etc. These are people who beg for prisons to be built in the county, complete with huge, tall, bright watchtowers and watertowers. But for some reason windmills are BAD. By the way, a year before this the signs on the same pieces of property read, "YES TO WALMART." Take that as you will.

I mean, one scientist looks at a meteor and says, "Oh good there is ancient Mars life in it, "and another looks at the same meteor and says, "Oh no that is a geologic process." One looks at the Viking lander data and says, "Oh check it out life!" and another says, "Nope just an unforseen nonbiotic chemical reaction." Now it is the same argument with Methane. Jeeze, we should just send some dudes over there and get this over with already...
