I just got the same setup done for my girlfriend except add a sterio, VCR & TV. She loves it too.
IANAP but I probably will by some version of this whenever some software is available for it. As long as it will talk to the rest of the machines in the house, I'll be happy..
....that they haven't tried writing their own games for linux ( and maybe porting them to Win later). I'm sure they have plenty of programming talent, add some graphic artists, some sound people, and a few plot/storyline guys & I'm sure they could pull off a decent RPG or something. Maybe they'll head this direction after they get out of Chapter 11.
I can see it now, if the practice of banning people gets _really_ prevalent & draconian or automated, someone will write a M$Virus (tm) that fakes heavy webserver activity originating from the infected computer. 30 minutes later people start getting kicked, and the ISPs start losing customers.
Well the thing is you have _custom_ apps. I would hope that if you paid to have the apps written you could at least get the code to have it ported to another OS. If I could code, AutoDesk isn't going to give, or even let me look at their source unless I fork over a large chunk of cash. And even if somehow I managed to pull that off, I'd still have to rewrite the custom overlays for AutoCAD & MicroStation that our customers have us use to keep their jobs to spec (digitally).
It will be used to subsidize the cost of the M$ OS on the Dell Laptop my friend got from his (State) College. The Gubment isn't going to give any money to Open Source, t'would be nice though.

What? Do you people really think that anything other than (insert favorite means of destruction) is going to stop these guys? 2 companies? 3 companies? How about: M$ Hardware, M$ ServerOS, M$ DesktopOS, M$ HandheldOS, M$ IE, M$ Dev, M$ Marketing & Legal, & M$ IP. And oh yeah, they CAN'T share code unless they open source it to do so. And if they have to license tech from each other in the next 5 - 10 years a 3rd party will mediate the price for them. Yeah..../rant
They're both pretty important, they both affect you, no matter how far away you think you are from the subcultures associated with each. If it doesn't affect you directly, it will affect someone in your life. Ok, ok, you might be that one guy, but hey......
How about InnoculateIT from Computer Associates. It's free (as in beer) for personal use. Only works on Win2K Pro though. www.ca.com. Now I don't know if they have done anything evil or not, but they have some pretty good products.
