To get the initial load time of the app down to that of IE on Windows, they'd have to load most of it at startup and leave it in memory at all times. I believe this feature has been discussed for Windows, but I don't think anything ever happened with it. I don't see too much difference in rendering speed between IE 5.5 and the last build I tried (which is actually kind of old).

Unfortunately, RAMBUS, Amazon.com, and NCR have scarfed them all up. "The personal terminal is credit-card sized, is intelligent, includes a plurality of transaction totals and is constructed to be user-friendly." Hmmm, sounds like a small portable computer with transaction applications on it. Sounds like a pretty obvious evolution of portable computers into smaller devices. Oh, look! The US economy is faultering! Let's see if we can wreck some big tech companies and put the US into a depression!

He's talking about being able to see billing mistakes before paying. I doubt any intelligent company would send a bill to a collection agency, attempt to ruin your credit, or stop your service when there is any chance at all that they made a mistake on your bill and you can prove it. My long distance phone carrier got changed somehow to my local phone company without permission and I got billed a helluva lot more for those calls then with my regular carrier. Called long distance carrier, told them about it, got switched, told my local carrier who evidently had the change made themselves (illegal), and didn't pay for those long distance calls. Did they try to collect what they said I owed them? Hell no.

Maybe Congress should pass a bill invalidating these stupid ass patents. These ones that they leave lay around for years and finally "discover" them should definately be killed off. The Rambus patent should be killed too since they participated in a standards making body to gurantee targets for its patent later.

You might think that a dual 1GHz Tbird system would be way too fast, but I seem to recall that some said that a 500MHz CPU was way to fast when they first came. Now we got the 1GHz and they want to go faster. Going SMP 1GHz is a way for people who have some extra cash but don't want to try to overclock their CPU to get increased performance. I figure once we hit the speed barrier with current technology, they'll have to find ways to make CPUs cheaper and just ship all PCs with 2 or 4 CPUs.
