I quit because all of the sudden Time Warner wanted (aka insisted) that we use "Digital Cable" - to get what I used to get just fine. There is no way I am paying $80 a month to watch a bit of TV. No way. None.
They tried to con you too? Be glad you didn't take it, digital isn't all that much better and it doesn't degrades gracefully. Time-Warner in our area didn't want to be bothered actually fixing the ancient equipment in our neighborhood so the tv was impossible to watch. We went back to analog in a month.
Possibly, but I live under a mall which blanks out half the night sky. A full moon might be a problem, but when you can't see Venus at its brightest under a new moon you have some problems.
I was impressed by how much I could see in my light pollution infested suburb last year. This year I'm can head out to an empty field in the midwest and get a better view.

This was one of the required texts for my intro to programming class and even though I've given up programming its one of two books I still find useful. The other being Introduction to Algorithms which I use as a doorjamb.
I would do that except I'm so sensitive to onions that I can't even cut chilled fresh vidalias without tearing up so much that I can't see. Kinda hard to cut when you can't see anything.
Actually I'm happy to pay more. That's why I don't buy supermarket meat anymore. Don't pigeonhole a group just because you've had some bad expiriences.
almost every adult I know owns a decent collection of the Disney movies. We can bitch about Disney's product all we want, but the sad truth is, they produce the closest thing to adult animated entertainment that we have.
I agree except that all my Disney released films are Studio Ghibli.;-)
For all the advances in science and technology, we're still basically living the same lifestyle of the 50's. Stuff works a little better, people live a little longer, we have nicer toys, some irrelevant fashions continued to evolve, that's it. We still drive cars at about the same speed, not many people live to 100 years old, hardly anybody goes to space, and most things are still mass-produced in big, expensive factories.
This is assuming that you are white, male, middle class, straight, and professional. But for those of us without that priviliege life and society is far better than the 50s. Things like civil rights, women's lib, the G.I. bill, and advances medical knowledge have led to an increase in quality of life. Perhaps not much has changed technological, which I doubt, but the changes in society and attitude are staggering and take an incredible narrow mindset to overlook. Also factories today bear very little resemblance to factories of the 50s, for one far less people are needed to staff them.
When today's toddlers grow up, some seriously weird technologies are going to start kicking in... technologies that may make our political system obsolete, just as mass-produced guns made feudalism obsolete.
Actually changes in the economics and population of medival Europe brought down feudalism, and pikes and bows were the revolutionary weapon of the time, not guns. With a pike formation you can easily break a cavalry charge and a properly trained user of the English long bow could kill a knight in plate armor.
I as a member of the so called Generation Y am not living the life of my mother or father. I have grown up with different social norms and expectations. Don't discount the progress of the last 50 years because you are convinced that the next 50 years will bring neat sci-fi toys.
The oldest copies of the Hebrew Scriptures are pretty much identical to the modern ones. However these were oral tales long before they were written down.
The same way I run Word right now, by finding the Word app in my applications folder and clicking twice. If Apple doesnt go to a DRM Microsoft will continue to write Office for it.
No offense, but if anymore out of state money/intrest is poured into my state's elections this year I think people are going to scream. We already have the damn President campaigning for Libby our wonderful prodigal daughter who's not been in NC since she became an adult. This years elections have already been screwed by the Republicans. The last thing I need to hear is about an "outsider" coming to "fix" things.
Sorry for my rant, but I had to blow off some steam and give an insiders point of view.
Actually since the Big Bang occured in all parts of the universe at the same time, because the universe was an infinatly small point, the leftover radiation is everywhere in the universe. It hasn't traveled as much as the universe has increased in size.
Or I could be trying to do astronomy in my head right after I woke up.
Spell checkers can't help with there, their, they're and they don't help me when I btucher a word so badly that it can't tell what I'm trying to say, which is more often then not.
Last I checked you one shouldn't use contractions in formal writing, nor passive clauses, nor second person.
I've always heard people claim that l33t is easier to type quickly in a speed sensitive setting. While I can see how the abbreviation part of l33t is and I admit to horribly abbreviating things while gaming. I don't see how it is faster to do the symbol substitution. So why do people claim that l33t is faster?
I trained myself to type quickly and reasonably accuratly so I could sound like an intelligent person online. Butchering the English language is different from letting it evolve. L33t is slang that has not shown any evidnce of becoming self perpetuated outside of the internet. I admit I cringe when my relatives who are twice or thrice my age type "how ru doing???/" It just seems wrong for people to talk like that.
Actually I think it is just that Civ3 is too slow to be playable. I gave it up on my G4 after I timed that it took 30 seconds to access the advisor screens and a minute to resort the city lists.
To stay on topic though: It is good to see that bioware is porting but I think they have lost my money. I planned to wait for the mac port but I have found myself unimpressed with the game. Sad because I was waiting for NWN for three years now but at least I didn't rush to buy it. I think I'm going to give my money to a company that makes an actual effort to release my platform's port with the windows release. Warcraft III here I come!
Well since it took us thirty years to get out there and I don't we could get there much faster today. Plus the cost of making a probe with enough power to last the journey. I'd say we've gotten not only our money's worth but that these are damn useful probes. If nothing else they can give us an idea of what to look for with our next probes. This is assuming that we can get the money for the next generation of deep space probes which I highly doubt.
To bad that Pioneer 10's ultimate demise will come at the hands of the Klingons.

So what does a hill covered in herring look like?
Fishy.

So why are they still patching Diablo II:LoD a year after it came out?
I would do that except I'm so sensitive to onions that I can't even cut chilled fresh vidalias without tearing up so much that I can't see. Kinda hard to cut when you can't see anything.
Where will I get all my shiny coasters from now?

The classic skin looks alot less ugly than the netscape 6 theme on OS X. Those round gray buttons are really jarring.

I suppose I can shut dnetc down for now and give my processors a rest. Congratulations to whoever got the lucky key.

But every one should switch to the bunny foo-foo Macintosh.

And I noticed a misspelling already in my post. Figures.

Luna is the term I've heard tossed around but they may be due to reading too much sci-fi.
