Relax buddy. Contrary to what you seem to be implying with all that nitpicking, I'm not a master of car trivia and I'm not trying to insult your intelligence.

A speedway is a race track specifically designed to allow maximum speeds in a car. It has perfectly banked corners and huge straights. The pavement is perfectly flat, and there is no traffic.

In order to reach maximum speeds in a Bugatti, you've got to retract the rear wing. No rear wing means better arodynamics, but a lot less rear end grip. Without the wing, at 250 even the smallest bump could send the Bugatti spinning to it's death.

It's not really about the police, it's about living to gloat about taking a Bugatti to 250.

Bugatti is owned by VW. It's a namebrand for their "Image" car. Much like the Viper makes Dodge look cooler.

Basically, the Veyron is the world's greatest supercar. It has 16 cylinders, 4 turbos, 11 radiators and can do 0-60 in under 4 seconds. The image of the Veyron makes VW look great by association. It's also a technology accomplishment.

Each Veyron cost 4 million to make. They are sold for 1 million each. I'm not sure if this factors R&D or not. If R&D is included in the 4 mil per car figure, then the actual cost may be lower as the research has value for VW's other cars.

The Bugatti Vayron is the worlds fastest production car. It's top speed is 250MPH. At that speed, the only place it can be used is on a speedway. It's fuel supply will last all of 17 minutes.

    It's my dream car.

The wright brothers first flight didn't even last a minute. It was worth it.

As a resource becomes more plentiful, uses for that resource also increase. A similar example from automotive engineering comes to mind:

Because of advances in engineering and design, engines are far more powerful and efficient now than they were in the early 90s. Cars have far better aerodynamics. However, gas mileage has not improved. In many cases it's gotten worse since the 80s. Likewise 0-60 times haven't improved much.

So what happened? Instead of improving the performance of your average family sedan, auto makers have added better armor, more air vents, more lights, DVD players, and more plush materials. Everything is safer and more comfortable now than it was in the 80s and 90s.

My 86 Camry will beat your 2007 Camry in a drag race and it will get better fuel mileage. But for a 500 mile trek across California or a bad accident? I know which one I'd prefer.

Likewise, my Pentium 4 has 16000 times more ram than my first computer (a C64,) and 256 times the ram of my first 486 (side note: how long before someone informs me of the amount of ram my 486 had?)

My 486 could write a document just as easily and with as much style as my P4. But it couldn't write a document while I was watching a subtitled MP4 movie in another window, listening to music, burning a DVD, and downloading hot lesbian pr0n from bit torrent. And it certainly couldn't do all that on dual 20 inch widescreen flat panel displays.

Sure, software is more bloated. But like the 2007 Camry (available wherever fine cars are sold,) after a long day your ass is going to be a lot more comfortable.

You know, for $600 I could buy dinner, gas, tickets, nice clothes, calogne, haircuts and a year long gym membership. I could find a nice girl and have a girlfriend. I could even get some "consultation" from a therapist or life coach so that I can keep a girlfriend for longer than 3 weeks.

Or, I could sit on my ass and play video games.

No disrespect to the people who enjoy games. Lord knows I've done a lot of it. But if $600 is a noticable amount of money to you, perhaps a new video game system isn't the right priority.

In my experience, games are a wonderful way to unwind, like watching a bit of TV. Some games have a great story: I was a huge fan of Final Fantasy. But, in my experience once I've overcome the last boss and beaten the game I feel empty, not satisfied.

This weekend I paid about as much as a PS3 would cost and trained with a Sword master. That's somthing that I feel great about and will last me my life.

There are plenty of satisfying ways to spend $600.

If you want to go 200MPH you can buy a Zonda for $300K.
If you want to go 250MPH you can buy a Bugatti for $1 Million.

Sometimes I think computers are spoiling people. Small improvments can be very expensive.

For what it's worth though, you don't have to upgrade and you aren't expected to upgrade every time AMD makes a 20% bump in speed. New motherboards are for people who need a new system, not for people who want to make a smaller speed improvment.

The reviews are good for the guy with a old system like mine. "Is it worth spending an extra $50 for the latest and greatest, or can I go with the previous generation?"
