USPS Server Meltdown

There are companies out there that provide API based local products to act as a primary. This allows integrators to use the Web API as a backup.
(Shameless Plug Warning)I recommend ProShip by Best Way Technologies http://www.bestwaytech.com/proship. But there are other "acceptable" alternatives out there
Carriers, such as USPS, FedEx, UPS and DHL, can change their rates, services and algorithms quarterly. It is often easier and cheaper to offload said responsibilities to a third party.
At our shop we us Eclpse to code in Java, PHP, C, C++ and Nulsoft Installation Scripts. This only leaves one language where we have to use note pad or TextPad. VBScript
If anyone knows of a VBScript plugin for Eclipse please pipe up and make a crappy job (coding in VBScript) a bit less crapy.
PyGame is just what I was looking for. I have an 11 year old that is looking to make video games on his laptop (an old Pentium 120 that a client of mine gave me).
I started him on Q Basic such that he could start to think logically, understand subroutines and variables and the other basics. I was going to have him move to Java next, but I knew that it would be difficult for him to do much graphically. This looks like something that might just fit the bill.
Other suggestions from other/. parents are welcome
The poor in the US usually drive autos that are 5 to 20 years old. The gas mileage on these vehicles (which are usually not maintained at top form) is some times worse than the SUV behemoths that the middle class is driving.
Tax incentives are the way to go. They do not hurt the poor, who do not pay taxes (if they have children the usually make money on taxes). This would encourage the "evil rich" to buy more fuel efficient cars. Additionally, it would encourage businesses that own fleets to replace them with more fuel efficient vehicles.
Case in point, in Arizona the state passed a tax incentive for any vehicle that was converted to natural gas. California companies moved their entire fleets to Arizona, had them converted to natural gas and collected the tax credit. Though it is true that Arizona lost out in tax revenues, they, a highly conservative US state, where responsible for thousands of alternatively fueled vehicles being placed on the road in one year. And this was all done with out effecting the poor.
Having driven on these roads on a business trip, I must say they are notably quieterthan even new asphalt.
I would love to see them in the Chicago area. But I wonder how they stand up to freezing temperatures and thousands of fully loaded tractor trailers. I doubt the unions would put them in any way. They may not break as fast and that would cut into their margins.
One would think that the cameras produce a very small electromagnetic field. Furthermore, the metal structure of the robot would shield some of that field. By using pneumatics the largest field producer, an electric motor, would be eliminated from the robot.
Though it may not be perfect, from a distance other sharks may be more likely to react like a normal shark.
Yeah a view of a nice field would be nice. You might even get some interesting voyeuristic views from time to time... Then again if its an obese unkept couple you may still need window shades.
You could do the positive pressure thing by bolting a commercialair cleaner like the Delta AP100 or AP200 into a wooden carcass. It would not need to be even close to air tight as the CFM should be high enough to keep any dust out of the enclosure.
Hey, you know those buildings that the subway passes by on its way downtown? The ones that are within walking distance of the subway stops? People live in those buildings, and they don't need to drive to the subway station. In fact, often they don't need to own a car at all!
All they need is 400K to 5 million dollars (Chicago prices) to live in a place large enough to have a spouse and a child or two with out fear of getting mugged on the way to the subway or El.
I must respectfully disagree with your assertion that Clinton spent his two terms building up the military. I was in the US Navy from '92 to '99. Clinton continued (and extended) the draw down initiated by Bush 41. It was not until his last year in office that any push was made to reverse the huge dip in moral and readiness... At least in the Navy that is.
As for the "tax cuts for the rich" I am part owner in a small logistics integration firm. I am by no means rich (I pay myself less than I pay most of my employees (hoping to make it up in the long run)). The Bush tax cuts allowed us to re-higher personnel we had to let go due to the 9-11 slump. By bringing back those personnel we where able to increase the number of jobs we could accept. Thereby increasing revenue allowing us to higher even more personnel. Most of the personnel we hired were working in much lower paying jobs. We were able to pay them fairly based on their skill level. Logic follows that this made the new employees (who where middle class at best) richer.
I have used PHPEclipse for the past year. Prior to that I used TextPad.
I have used Visual Sudio 6 and.Net.
PHPEclipse rocks, though I do have some complants (mainly the auto double quotes are a pain to get used to) I still recommend it to all other PHP developers I know.
I leave a copy at all of my client sites to ensure that they can make changes to the code I generated for them.
Please read the parent, look at PHPEclipse and (if you like it) mod the parent up to help inform others
Arizona diverts a large amount of water from the Colorodo River. The Central Arizona Project (CAP) diverts water from the Colorodo through Phoenix and Tucson. It delivers 1.5 million acre feet of water per year. And that is not at full capacity.
I dual-boot and IE beats the crap out of firefox on my machine
And last time I booted DOS 6.22 it loaded much faster than my Windows or Linux machines. Does that mean that I want to use DOS 6.22 as my OS. No DOS 6.22 does not support the applications I want to run. Just like IE does not support the W3C standards (causing other browser makers to write code to intentionally break their software so it will work like IE)
While were at it, wordpad opens faster than OOo. I know, I can use a VI port to DOS 6.22 and I will have the fastest loading computer on the planet.
I do not mean to be an ass, I just spend most of my day breaking web applications so they will look the same in IE as they do in standard compliant browsers. IE sux and Microsoft does not plan to put out another major version until Longhorn comes out.
Maybe I'll switch to marketing so I can feel cleaner than breaking my good code.
Incremental changes in weaponry tend to have better long term pay-off than super-weapon development
Not always the case. For there time the Super Carrier, F-14 and M-16 where all consideredsuper weapons. They allowed the US military to make a large technological advance and then recommence the improvement process far ahead of its adversaries
A mix of incremental improvement and "Super Weapons" (along with over 40% of the worlds economic resources) gave the US its military superiority.
No it would be more like the German Air force having attack aircraft called Stalingrad or Maginot.
I do not profess that the results of manifest destiny on the native American population within the US borders did not result in atrocities. However, when properly armed native Americans were a formidable foe. Most nations respect formidable foes. Naming a powerful class of war machine after a former foe _is_ a way a military shows respect.
Kudos on the site, I'm sure yahoo will rip it off in as soon as it actually becomes a blip on the radar. How are you actually making money on this? I did not see any advertising nor did I have to pay.
This is a good idea. I would recommend using the <a title="Sender Permitted From" href="link">SPF</a> method due to IE's lack of standards compliancy.
I know that Moz supports acronym, abbr and a with title attributes, however IE is the most used browser (much to web standards proponents chagrin) out there and does not support all of the afore mentioned tags.
But if I beat the crap out of an Arab, with a box cutter on a plane, the left would label me a racist.
They would have wanted me to ask him about why he felt that he had to hijack a plane. They would want me to sing a folk song to change his heart. Most of the right, that does not live in DC, would say beat the $#it out of him and let some Dr. ask him those questions when you are safe on the ground.
You mean like the passengers beating the crap out of some dorks with box cutters, rather than sitting like the trained sheep the left has been attempting to turn them into?
Would VOIP not simply combind telecom and the internet? And as the internet was created by the DOD to work reliably; wouldn't this increas our overall infrastrucure reliability?
'~/pictures' works for one user. What do you do if you want to keep it in a common location? Where do you put a folder to keep sub folders with lots of common items like pictures, budgets, recipes, and other common documents and files? I am not trying to be argumentative, I just don't know.
Right at the beginning of the article was the discussion of the 15% mortality rate of mice exposed to nanotubes
You are not taking into account how they where exposed. The nanotubes where released directly into their lungs. I wonder what the mortality rate is for mice with common dirt released directly into their lungs? I am pretty sure that the mortality rate for releasing dihydro mono oxygen [think about it, that right H2O] directly into a mammals lungs is greater than 15%. If there was a 15% mortality rate if nanotubes where scattered around their enclosure I would agree, Chicken Little, that the sky is falling.

I fail to see how this would be unfair.

Patches... We don't need no stinking patches.
Are you some kind of moron?
You sure showed that guy. Let's see him try to post here again.
Though I agree with the meaning of your post, its delivery could use some polish.
