Hmm, the shuttle aint launching for another 6 months, at best. I'm guessing they'll be a crew changeover before then - and Nasa needs to stay in Russia's good books.

Of course, for $20 million a person, you could launch 7 people - the compliment of a shuttle - for $140m. The average shuttle flight costs $500m.

I think your best bet is the "gift" system, mentioned elsewhere

Basically, set a realistic monthly budget. Doesnt matter if its $20 or $2000. Doesnt matter where the money comes from. Then decide who the best contributers to the project are (include yourself in the running), and distribute the money as gifts. Someone working on the graphics end? Get them a new ATI 9700 or whatever is in fashion. Someone crunching numbers? A processor upgrade might come in handy. Pay someones DSL bill for the month.

You could even try a deal with a computer company. Get cheap parts, and they get to sponsor your site. Or something.

depends on your definition of left/right wing.

If you look at just economics, with state-markets on the far left and free-markets on the far right, then the worst regimes of recent times have been on the far left (Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot) or at the very least left of center (Hitler).

But many people equate rightwing with authoritarian, so they say that Hitler, and the BNP, are right wing

Either way, right/left isn't a very good way of defining ones political beliefs.

I agree with government - they shouldn't be aloud to import anything unless they have to. It's better to spend twice as much for a local product because the money stays in the economy. Fortunatly some councils here in the UK are doing that. They are moving to linux - meaning less money is going to Redmond, and more is going into the IT support market, or being saved completly.

Private firms can do whatever they want, however I believe they should have to say when they have offshore call centers etc. In supermarekts they label lamb as "New Zealand Lamb", I might decide to spend more and get welsh lamb, because it keeps it in the economy.
