Even more amusing is that I have not played a SINGLE game on a ps3 or xbox 3shitty that is half as much fun as most of the wiiware titles, which are again half as fun as the premier wii titles like mario kart and new super mario brothers.

However as more and more people realize the windows treadmill is throwing them under the bus for corporate profit, then more and more people will be exposed to alternatives like Linux Mint 10.

And let's be honest. Other than running a few games well, there is virtually no reason to choose Windows over Linux Mint 10.

This isn't a troll. Do not respond unless you have installed Linux Mint 10 on more than 2 boxes.

You forgot about planned obsolesence. I'll give you that there have been technological advances, and that we COULD have less problems per mile. But we don't. At least not in every case, and certainly not with American cars. Also, we've lost a LOT about what used to make American cars great.

I drive a 1964 Dodge Dart GT. I built it myself. I know every part of the engine and how and why it works. I also can figure out immediately what is wrong if something goes wrong, but tellingly, almost nothing ever goes wrong. The car is all steel. Tons of room inside, AND inside the engine compartment. The tranny has been serviced ONCE since 1964, and that was just out of morbid curiosity, not necessity. I've rebuild the engine twice, but once because I built it wrong initially, and the next time because I was beating my car up like an asshole (and having a ball doing it!).

We COULD have really great electric cars with almost no maintenance save for new tires every couple of years. They COULD be ludicrously cheap. We COULD be charging them with our own solar panel covered garages.

But corporate control is the name of the game. They control every government, every person, and through the patent and copyright system, every idea and technology. So we don't have anything but crappy products with built in life spans that cost 100 times more than they should.

  20. Chrome growth is frightening. on Windows Browser Ballot: the Winners and the Losers · · Score: 1, Flamebait

I know there's lots of google fan boys on Slashdot, but I find it frightening that Chrome use has been growing so much. Google already has a very powerful market presence on the web, and I don't think putting them in charge of your browser is a good idea. They are a corporation for profit, and hence inherently evil, like any machine that cares about nothing but profit would inherently be.

The choice to use Firefox is obvious because it's the best browser. But people should stick with Firefox anyway because it's OPEN SOURCE, and no corporation could abuse the power of it's market share for that fact alone. Do the right thing. Migrate your clients and friends and family to open source, and start with Firefox first, because it IS THE BEST, and easiest to use browser, and runs on all 4 major operating systems. Then after that go for Libre Office (perfect example of the nature of Open Source killing evil corporation right there, "Good BYE Open Office!!"), and then eventually get your people onto Linux Mint. It's the best OS already, and 9 times out of 10 people will come to love it's stability, speed, ease of use, and inherently preferable nature due to it's FOSS character.

The fact that so many people are still on Mac and Windows really speaks volumes to the pathetic and immoral nature of the human mind, and the lazy weakness that pervades society and allows so many problems and corporate slavery to continue and flourish unhindered.

Do the right thing. Upgrade to FOSS, and start with Firefox. Not SOLELY because it's FOSS, but because it's also the best. Oh, and while you're at it, install Adblock and send an extra FUCK YOU to the corporations that are destroying all the ecosystems on the planet, our basic human rights, health, and happiness, and the democracies that so many of our ancestors labored and died to create.

Firefox is STILL the best browser out and I use it every day. I would never settle for Chrome or another closed source option.

  22. Wrong Approach. on Talking To Computers? · · Score: 1

Voice recognition has taken the wrong approach from the beginning. The computer listens all the time, then tries to decipher a command in the middle of all kinds of stuff. That's unrealistic. If you gave it a name, an unusual name phonetically (Like "Esmerelda") and only had it follow a command after it heard it's name, then turn off again, then I think we could have working voice recognition RIGHT NOW. "Esmerelda, check my email" "You have 7 new messages". "Esmerelda, play music" Then poof Audacious opens up and plays some mp3s.

Can somebody build this app and put it in the Linux Mint repos please? Thanks in advance.

  23. Wrong from the beginning. on Ubuntu: Where Did the Love Go? · · Score: 1

Ubuntu has been going about nearly everything wrong from the beginning. It's been brown, orange, purple, every hideous color imaginable. It's been slow to boot, slow to run, wonky to use, and over all less well thought out, layed out, and organized than MS DOS, much less other more recent OSes like Mac or Windows. There are no games. The default applications are often the worst option, although NEVER the best option. Rather than a panel at the bottom like Windows, or at the top, like Mac, there's two. Both taking up real estate. The users in the forums are frequently rude, and condescending. Moderators in the forums will edit your posts, censor your posts, and in general just do what it takes to make your experience there more frustrating. Particularly if you say something critical of Canonical or Ubuntu. Good luck getting your feed back heard over there, nobody will listen. Instead, they'll go out on a limb on another untested technology and rebrand it another brown/purple/orange that looked even worse than before. Rather than speed and stability, there will be improved and added cruft, widgets, and other unnecessary detractors that are second in annoyance factor only to the prepackaged malware you might get on a bad OEM Windows machine.

Luckily, there's a solution for all these problems:

    Linux Mint.

Linux Mint is fast, up to date, has 8 different versions (KDE, Debian, Gnome, LXDE in both 32 and 64 bit configurations). All of them are better than Ubuntu at nearly every task. In addition Linux Mint has ideal default apps, with the exception of VLC still not being the default video player. The community is exceedingly friendly, exceedingly open to criticism, and open to hearing and criticizing new ideas.

Go and try Linux Mint 10. You will never, ever consider going back to Ubuntu for any reason.

PS This is not a troll. Go and try Linux Mint RIGHT NOW. And YES I know that Mint was up until recently based on Ubuntu. But it has surpassed it on every level. TRY IT.

This is not a troll. Before you start flaming me, go ahead and run 10 Mint installs. Experience is the only real way to garner fact based information, and otherwise your opinion is just that: An opinion, and probably ignorant.
