Doesn't look like it. I was with you up to there though. Maybe I just don't like the way springing a no-holds-barred free-market on the agriculture business reminds me of that whole not learning from history -> doom thing.

Yeah, yeah, freedom for all, peace on earth, whatever. I just don't like the way Ayn Rand fanboys prop up libertarianism as the ultimate answer to life, the universe and everything. If the people running things thought that way I'd say we'd all be in deep shit. Individual freedom's great. There shouldn't be any reason to screw with that, but guess what? Capitalism ain't perfect. You get situations when having each party act in their own self interest just screws it up worse. A noncompetitive party is necessary to deal with those eventualities. The government doesn't have to fuck with anybody's rights, it just has to be ready to step in with your tax dollars and adjust things when necessary.

Yeah, whatever, I'm off topic. We need a new Godwin's law for libertarians. "We're out of cereal? Don't worry, the free market will take care of that. What, go to the store? What are you, some kind of Communist?"

No offense, Gendo, I'm just too crotchety for a copyright law debate. What am I thinking, writing this much for slashdot? I'm gonna go get wasted.

LE is pretty useless for "learning" Photoshop or whatever. I doubt anybody needs a week of practice to learn what the button with the pouring paint bucket means, and LE cuts out all the features that do take work to learn how to use.

I completely agree that pirating Photoshop is pretty stupid, though. If you actually need CYMK color, I'm pretty sure you can spend half a grand on the software. If you're not using the features, you're just going out of your way to get a horribly bloated program.

I think I read something about how they weren't taking his script drafts seriously, though. I think it was basically that they'd put him in the "novelist" category and assumed that, like most novelists, he was clueless about scriptwriting. Hopefully they eventually found out about the vast majority of his work being scripts, but they were kind of ignoring his input early on.

Mr. Bean might be good, but he's kinda too interesting looking. You need someone utterly boring in every way. Bean might actually work for Ford, though.

In The Salmon of Doubt they have a speech Douglas Adams made to an AI confrence of some kind (don't remember exactly), but he had a great explaination for God. He said people are like water in a pothole. We fit our environment so well, we conclude that it must have been designed for us.
He also has some stuff about how people are tool-makers, so it's reasonable that we'd start questioning the posibility of someone having made the world. If you have no concept of evolution, the way we're so adapted to our environment gives you pretty good evidence that somebody built all this for us. So, in whatever BC, God was a good scientific explaination for everything, which is why everybody has one. Then he went on with some stuff about how this ingrained God theory makes us reflexivly dismiss the possibility of something bad happening, like global warming, extinctions of endangered species, asteroids hitting the earth...

Both of them get a lot from just hating eachother, but the GOP is made up of rich CEO's and religious (well, christian) fundamentalists (yes, there's normal people in there, but they don't make nearly as much noise, and so don't have as much influence) who have absolutely nothing in common. The CEO's want lower rich-guy taxes, the CF's are tax exempt, and the CF's look for government grants, even! The only thing that I could see them agree on is the socially conservative end of things. CEO's want to keep people sheepish to spend their money, CF's want to keep people sheepish so they'll come to church. Do they really get that much from eachother?

Anime is unusally just a moving version of a manga, which has already incorporated the expression of movement in stationary images into it's artistic style. The animators keep a lot of the comic artist's techniques to keep the style consistent, even though they don't have to. All right, all right, they also do it because it's easier and cheaper, but if you look at something like NieA_7, which spares no expense on the framerate most of the time, they still do all of the crazy shit because it really can contribute somthing to the impact of the animation. Since I've got Chuck Jones on the brain today, you ever see "The Dover Boys" cartoon? The one with the 3 guys that keep trying to save the girl from the green bad guy, when she really just keeps beating the shit out of him? Anyway, Chuck used lots of jerky, almost anime-style, "cheap" animation techniques for the cartoon, which he uses to make every little thing the characters do look hilarious.
Anyway, my point is to try looking at it as an animated comic book, which is really what it is.
