Watched the press conference on tv and they said they had no idea which trains but that they were watching many. Officials have idea if they had cross border passenger trains in mind.
Then you get the NY representative who says YEP Dey wuz gunna come over da boarder n' blow up 'Mericans! (Kapital M!)
Why do we keep electing these assyholez? Anything to get their names in the paper... for stupid. And they say the USSR was good at brainwashing? Can't hold a candle to US congressmen.
Yeah, well cross browser compatibility seems to be a thing of the past. A lot of problems have been turning up for a lot of folks lately. Need to fill out a form? Won't work? Change browsers... works like a charm. That new browser won't fill out another form? Try another browser or maybe even your original browser. Works fine.
It is interesting since they practically gave it away at launch. Their biggest mistake was the start menu omission, IMHO.
If you did a clean install... yer kinda screwed. If you just upgraded, not that big a deal. Just click on desktop and everything is still there. But the major problem I have is they put that screwy "award winning" ribbon everywhere. So you have to pretty much figure out how to search thru it to find anything. (The ribbon is the reason I still have office 2003)
Seems with every upgrade they move things around and you have to figure out where the hell they put it this time.
Interestingly enough the T ouch S omeones A ss 24/7 crews only check planes. I guess busses don't carry enough. But trains... well they can carry a tad more than a plane. Of course they couldn't check those passengers. They'd have to re-train the conductors. Instead of shouting all aboard they'd have to say "most" aboard.
With the SSD seemingly "coming into it's own"... sure. With a "comparatively" shorter life span why not run it 42/7? After all, the manufacturers have to make a buck too.
On the other hand, you can probably do a reality show for a million $ a season. A sitcom or whatever will likely cost 1 million or more per show. Dollars and cents are a huge factor.
How many folks do you know that will go out and buy a cell modem and service just to play a game? Not to mention carrying all that crap around with them.
There have been reports that some have played as long as 7 hours off line without a problem. But the main bitch was on line in general. So, sure you can play off line and save by getting on line again. BUT in order to start the game you have to go on line. Therein lies the problem. If you're traveling you can't START the game to play off line.
Since there's a no return policy on opened software in the US, a ton of folks are just canceling their CC payments if they bought it thru a retail store. And since there's no way to return it, they still have it sitting on their shelves. So if they decide to play it... they can. EA would have no record of the "voided" key code and no way to get it. So the DRM didn't stop pirating, it just created thousands of new ones!
With all that in mind the only ones here getting burnt are the retailers. Not EA. Unless they have some sort of reimbursement plan in mind for them. Say a store had 1000 copies and got hit with 500 charge backs that they never get back... Could put some smaller stores out of business.
That being said, this fiasco not only hurts us, but the retailers will likely think twice about ordering anything from EA every again.
Having the cpu part of the board isn't really a big deal to me. Most of us upgrade 2 or 3 or more years down the road and the new chips aren't compatible and the boards themselves have advanced by that time as well. So... who cares?
Problem I'm looking at is the cloud and from this side of the fence it looks menacing. Started years ago when they began to re-write the EULA's and no one (for years) noticed you can't buy software anymore. You license it. And generally only for one (or two) machines. As far as the cloud goes... well you can now rent software. That's what's scary. Perpetual monthly payments for anything. And if the company folds... so does everything you own.
Dropping hard drives? COOL! That meenz they'll finally be comin' out with a 4T SSD! I can't wait! And they'll prolly be really cheep! Like maybe only $35,000 or so! YAY!
Oops typo. Sorry. "Officials have NO idea if they had cross border trains in mind."

I dunno, Jobs was a marketing genius. (Look at apple now) Balmer... not so much a marketing anything.
The gov itself can't charge sales tax. That would be illegal. However they aren't getting any tax from this. The states would.
Agreed absolutely. Perhaps I should have said "checking" CBC is a thing of the past.

Sounds like a no-brainer to me. Even if the earth isn't destroyed simple over population will do us in.

Yeah. If your connection goes down what else is there to do BUT play games? And they want to take that away too?
Newegg labeled their invoices for Win8, windows 8 RT. But according to them the RT was for the "ReTail" version. Created a lot of confusion.

Zombies attack Vampires while the Transformers and Supergrandpa look on in the 25th century. Can't wait. Sci fi has been a lost art for eons now.
Seems like that's what they've been doing for years. Thing is, they don't have computers.

You're talking about a phone or maybe a tablet. Thing is, you aren't going to play this game on a phone or tablet.
Not if you're in the middle of nowhere.

Somebody shoot me.
Uhh... WD bought maxtor. That's when WD fell apart. But Seagate also had some problems but they're pretty much solid now.
"A very small fraction of our customer base" ultimately choose those options.'"
Statement decoded...
Simply because a small fraction of our customer base are the one per-centers who can afford it.
Last time I looked, remote workers seemed to be the wave of the future. Then again, Yahoo's been living in the past for decades.
