I've never heard about this language, but hopefully the new version will help it keep up with the latest innovations in programming languages, such as codeblocks and Web 2.0.
A 14 year old is a big child. Science tells us that his brain will still grow and develop for about 10 more years. He needs structure, discipline and guidance.
Likewise, a 19-year-old is a big child. Science tells us that his brain will still grow and develop for about 5 more years. How close to completion must the brain development be before we stop treating human beings like babies?
That is ancient knowledge. I guess to anyone but the torturers. Or perhaps they just want someone to confess? The point is often just to please the people or the higher-ups.
You're not supposed to tunnel BitTorrent over Tor. That slows the network down for everybody, including those who have a need for anonymity for legitimate than getting the latest movie flick.
This reporter is dumb. He declares that he is a fan of convenience and doesn't care much about anonymity. As he found out that anonymity slows things down, he concluded that it's not worth it.
For him, he should add. If all you need anonymity for is so websites can't point personalised ads at you, guess what: you don't want military-grade anonymity through Tor, you want Adblock or Privoxy. While he continues his convenient existance, more and more people rely on Tor for their democratic right to free unpopular speech. Tor may slow you surfing down, but it sure beats political imprisonment or being outed for being whatever is unpopular where you live.
The last time I checked my eMusic account, it was not an all-you-can-eat service. By subscribing, you're allowed to download a fixed number of songs each month (non-cumulative). So I don't think you can compare them. (Unless, of course, eMusic was different when you used it; I'm a relatively new subscriber)
I suppose they don't have their own novel algorithm for decoding MP3. Such a thing, if it existed (which it probably cannot), would clearly dodge any patent fee claims.

We cannot reliably have digital information put into our brain and decoded into a usable form without reliable biological-neurological wiring.
I think you mean the DSM-IV, not the ICD. But yes, pedophilia is one of the few mental disorders where sufferers are never shown any compassion, and rarely offered any treatment. What other illness can you have that will make you universally hated, by just about every person on Earth?
Looks like WinFS got released as part of Small Biz Server... remember it was withdrawn from Vista, but was supposed to be packaged with SQL Server instead?
WinFS was never supposed to ship with SQL Server. What they said was that the experience and parts of the innovations developed as part of WinFS would be used to add certain features to SQL Server. What it boiled down to is the old "sure we spent 15 years on this, but even if there won't be a product, at least we learnt something from it."
I've met some of the guys running it, and while I really admire their dedication and achievements, I can honestly say there's no job on earth I'd less like to have.
I think not liking the job is one of the requirements for getting it.
The "d" in "supposed" is increasingly seen as redundant when followed by a word starting with a "d"-like sound, such as "to". So "supposed to" becomes "suppose to", because they are phonetically very similar. It's just how it is these days.
This was an excellent comment, thank you. At 78, you may be the oldest Slashdot reader alive. Your generation's voice on history is invaluable.
The name "Scheme" was picked in the 1970s, so I wouldn't say Scheme joins Source in "today's" bad naming practices.

Yours truly,
Fictional stereotypical teenage Ruby fanatic.

Anonymity is the degree of how hard it is to spot you in a crowd. I can't see how having cached files affects that.

Qt is spelled "Qt", not "QT".

For christ's sake, don't give them any ideas!
There was nobody involved in this story who touched kids, as far as I understand. The alleged crime in question was storing illegal images.

That's a very disturbing fantasy you got there. May I check your harddrive?
I, too, was surprised to discover there is porn on the usenets. Of course, this was in 1997, but regardless.

Firefox is GPL (and MPL and LGPL, whichever you choose).
So you actively work to keep them ignorant. Think about it.
No, they could metaphorically turn the lights off on Skype in China very, very quickly.
I think you mean "jiggowatt".

If people mature slower than before, mentally, then that sounds like a reason to raise the age of consent further.
You can't get a patent on a word. You may be thinking of trademarks.
