Ok I know a lot of that 133 lbs for the hydrogen fuel cell is the canister, but still even if half the weight is canister and only say 60-70 lbs is fuel my diesel will still run for days after the fuelcell has exhausted its hydrogen.

About the only differnce is I have to run my generator in its generator shed outside, and it is noisy, but still I think the fuel economy, ease of obtaining diesel and the fact that if worse comes to worse I can run bio-diesel (which is chemically altered french fry oil). Sorry still sticking with diesel here.

Belly aching about how they shouldn't do this does absolutely no good. We need to stand up in mass against the recording industry and tell them "No we will not be treated like criminals, we will only buy CD's that work in any equipment and the US courts have shown time swapping to be legal".

Lets do something about this. Something other then complaining and giving up.

Just to be sure I went ahead and went through all the pages of the Microsoft donations and I could not find her listed anywhere. Looks like the bulk of her money comes from labor unions. Also if you look at the source it was created with Frontpage 5.0.

So my guess is the whole "Use Microsoft Internet Explorer" bit is more of a lack of knowledge in creating web forms, so they used a tool that generated stuff for Internet Explorer only. My advice, pen a nice letter to her explaining and possibly offering to help, if will go a lot farther then hate and spit, especially since it looks like NONE of her money comes from Microsoft, hence this is NOT a conspiracy, I repeat NOT a conspiracy, simply a honest mistake made by someone who probably doesn't know better.

Email relies on encoding methods that can double or triple the size of an attachment, so it really isn't he best method for sending large files.

As for what other companies do, most have limits around 2 meg (some less, some a little more). If people need to transfer files within the company setup some sort of fileserver for sharing, geared toward the expertise level of your users (FTP if they have some sense, Windows/Mac shares if they don't).

If someone tries to pressure you to give them larger email size limits explain the above issues, state that it would cost the company more money and unless they have really good reason to need to send 10 meg attachments they aren't gonna get it (since it could hose your mail server in the hands of an idiot).

I guess what it is going to boil down to is the nature of your buissness, if I was System Admin for a company that used email for communications I think 1 or 2 meg would be fine with a couple exceptions for people (family portraits are a personal thing, not buissness). This is really more of a situtational judgement thing, Slasdot users can tell you what they are doing, but it could be vastly differnt from your scenerio (and using wrong advice without enough pesonal knowledge could screw ya).

Have you seen what sort of paperwork is required to do anything in California? I heard someone say that the reason one of the small islands next to the Golden Gate bridge will never be developed is because it would require something like 40-80 years worth of beuracry and hearings with all the differnt boards and groups and government bodies who have their fingers in the tax/envionmental/governmental/etc pie. I don't think doing it illegally is the way to do things I am mearly pointing out the viewpoint of the developer (that is might have been near impossible to get it done with the correct paperwork).

My problem is most envionmentalists only see the small picture (the spotted owl, the grey monkey or whatever), not the big picture, a steel mill would really help the economy of this town, this golf course will employee several hundred, or the only way Manuel can feed his family is to cut and burn the land for farming. They complain, but they rarely offer solutions, they simply stir the pot, maybe they are truely after fame? I don't know, I am simply saying some stuff gets a little outta hand with these envionmentalists and no one steps back to look at the big picture (can you say wrongful harassement of people who have built see walls legally, watch I can guarentee that will happen).

The article talks about seawalls, more then likely built to protect the property owners land from erosion, not building brick walls in the middle of a sand box. Sure the public owns the beaches, but don't the property owners have some rights too? They have paid millions of dollars for thar land next to the beach, don't they deserve to keep it for a while before the ocean reclaims it? Also these are the same people putting millions if not billions into the local economy. Sure it might suck to not have a little bit of beach access or that spot with the killer waves, but I think it would suck worse if they didn't build and your county didn't have enough money to by books for kids or repair the roads. Envionmentalism has its place, but without large buissnesses tax dollars things would suck.

Also read the article closely about the land developer ho put bolders on the beach, it says he just needed a permit, he may or may not get one, but more then likely he will and the bolders will stay, just more tax dollars I guess. Go envionmentalist, help the goverment collect more tax dollars.

If your house was next to a park, and the lake in the park flooded every year wouldn't you want some protection? Or what if you lived on the beach and your land was washing into the sea? Shouldn't you be allowed to put up some sort of seawall?

The average person is a greedy idiot, government contracts are full of regular people (heck who do you think works for NASA, rocket scientists? ;) so this stuff is going to happen. Or PETA to make sure I am not doing anything they disagree with (which includes pretty much EVERYTHING, including owning any pet). Where do we draw the line? Persuasive or not they have VERY VERY high standards, people who graduate top of their class, get a 1600 on the SAT etc etc sometimes don't even get into these schools (my youngest brother got a near perfect SAT, graduated top of his prep school, played two varsity sports, did volunteer work at the local public hospital in pediatric ICU and he couldn't get into Harvard, he got offered a full ride to Stanford, Notre Dame, Loyola and some others but NOT Harvard, they waitlisted him). So your logic is a little faulty on this one, since even someone who has a undergrad in physics and good GRE scores may not even stand a good chance of getting into these three schools.

Again I ask, what is wrong with asking, the worst they will say is no, why are so many people on Slashdot against asking? Does it have to do with some sense of fairness, thinking that someone hasn't earned their Masters unless they slaved away on their undergrad in the same field? Simply nay saying something gets you nothing, and for the most part asking will not hurt anything, at worst they will say no, and even if they do they will at least see that you have ambition. Same thing goes for Art History 101, any good artist researches other artists and periods and styles, so taking this class is a review of things they have studied on their own.

Of course this all depends on the person applying, some people with little experiance may require basic classes, in my wifes case they wouldn't of help further her, if anything it would have simply been an easy A, so she was able to get it waved and was allowed to spend her time (and my money ;) on classes that helped her (upper level MFA stuff).

    As for your assertion of:

"You will probably not be able to convince any graduate school worth its salt that you know all this stuff without having taken these courses."

I don't think you are correct, it is a matter of talking to the right people. Sure if you go in and talk to JoeBlow advisor you will be unlikely to get anywhere, however if you talk to the dean or whoever is truly in charge and you can prove you have the know-how you will get results.
