I'm with you on that. I'd rather not be revived hundreds of years into the future. That would be like a prison inmate being released into the world after a lifetime of incarceration. I wouldn't know how to handle the society, my family would most likely be dead. I wouldn't have a marketable skill set. For all you know you'll be revived into a living nightmare.
Is it me or is anyone else sick of this 'social' site fad? First people 'discovered' AOL and they could have a cool profile. Then it was a Geocities page and ICQ, then MySpace, Friendster, Twitter, Facebook. Aggghhhh! Do I give a shit what mood you're in? NO! Do I care what you did last summer or what your favorite movies are? HELL NO! How many hours do you spend in front of the computer writing shit about yourself to seem special? Like your some deep diamond in the rough that the public has yet to discover. Do I care about the kids from my highschool that I never talked to but suddenly want to be my virtual friend? No! If I did I would have kept in contact with you and not drew a moustache and an arrow through your head in my senior yearbook.
Even if I shut off my computer I still can't get away from it. It's all over the news that Zuckerberg and his Facebook. Wow, what a guy! Am I jealous? Sure, I wish I had a billion dollars on paper.
Great, just what I always wanted. Now I can be social from my dungeon in my mother's basement wearing my dirty undies.
What we really need is more Toshi and his milk, Goatse and hello my future girlfriend.
Current mood: God damn annoyed.
What am I doing tomorrow? Watching as advertisers and the CIA and whoever mines the data you provide for free.
This really got me worked up. I have to go blog about it.
Long slow decline of MSFT? What the hell are you talking about? Yahoo has been hurting a LOT more than MSFT in the last few years. Both MSFT and Yahoo are strong companies. You're romantic love for Yahoo while cute has completely biased this post.
Or these scientists have made a great discovery on how the brain works. This research can lead to treatments for people who SUFFER from ADHD, OCD, addiction possibly anxiety and depression. Ignoring mental illness is not the answer. We have to label conditions to understand them, unfortunately society associates a stigma with these disorders. Diabetes is a disorder. If a diabetic doesn't get insulin they will die. People with OCD may be suffering because of a lack of dopamine receptors. Should we stop research and deny people treatments that can improve their quality of life because we have to name the condition to diagnose and understand it? Why fight an uphill battle if you don't have to? Why continue to bang your head on the wall when it's not necessary?
The closest thing to those oldies but goodies is the new Wii Adventure by Capcom: Zak and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure. It actually reminds me of Gobliiins which was published by Sierra, but sort of along the same lines as the grand old Adventure games LucasArts and Sierra used to make.
Untrue, and a poor analogy. IT is not just infrastructure. Business people work with IT to solve business problems and create applications that then in turn drive and sell the business. What about companies like Intel, Apple, Google are they full of ditchdiggers or innovators?
Companies are starting to see that there are applications for offshoring (applications with clear requirements/speces, QA, Support, etc) but a developer/programmer or even infrastructure person that understands the business is well worth their high salary or rate.
To write all IT jobs off as requiring the same level of skill and intelligence as a plumbing job is not only like comparing apples to oranges but it comes across as arrogant. Besides, what about the enterprising plumbers who go on to start their own business or service franchise?
Everyone has to start somewhere. And for most thats the bottom rung on the ladder.
I know somebody is going to say that he has a great job, and they can never get rid of him, yada yada. But, that doesn't mean anyting. Your post doesn't mean anything
Failure to produce ID for a police officer when not driving, copping an attitude and playing dumb when they can sense it isn't exactly a crime either. But it's not going to get you a walk in the park.
It just seems to me there are much better ways he could have handled the situation.
To me this guy came across with a very cavalier and arrogant attitude. It seems to me he is just some 20-something with a bone to pick. He was looking for a fight. Playing dumb and not cooperating with police really makes them angry and then they start looking or creating reasons to arrest you.
Although I see where he is coming from, all he had to do was show his damned receipt. Big deal, you make a smart ass remark to the poor sap that has a job at Circuit City and you get on with your day.
I wouldn't call this a victory either. He got his charges dropped and lost a few thousand dollars and the headache of dealing with the burocracy, lawyers, cops etc. A victory would have been showing your receipt and spending the time as intended, stress-free with his family.
This shit cracks me up. I hardly doubt a degree at a game school in any way compares to a real CS or CSE degree. It may just be as worthless as majoring in Philosophy. At least if you major in Philosophy you'll run into some cute girls.
Sounds about as much fun as a LAN party sponsored by Taco Bell: A Smelly dude fest. I mean are these schools actually accredited? C'mon now, don't be a chump. Do yourself a favor get a real degree and check out nehe.gamedev.net.
Interesting model. Sounds like it works for small consulting firms. I got out of consulting because I was way underpaid and most of the time I was simply a warm body generating "billable hours" for the man.
I must say. I know you don't care about what your employees browse but if I saw a fellow employee browsing porn or reading the anarchist cookbook in the office it would raise some concern. However, I do get your point, and a whiff of arrogance.
It seems to me that good managers at least in IT for the most part don't have to worry about the productivity of their employees because they're fair and hire the right people.
there was a computer store I used to go to as a kid in the 80s where they would let you play any game for as long as you want before you bought it. I loved it when my parents would take me there, I never wanted to leave, and I always came home with a sweet game.

You sir are a complete idiot. Alcor is a huge scam with some pretty nasty practices.
fuck you! I'm eating.
You lost me at crotchfruit...

Slashdot forums: Come here for horrible advice!
*Shrug* there are 'problems' with everything.

Fromt he summary:
"It is crucial, they say, to reach the elusive audience of boys and young men."
EEEeeeeeewwwwwwwww! Count me out. Don't listen to the Priest. Those one-on-one matches on his private big screen sound a little suspicious.
What kind of revenue does Slashdot make?
LOL. Do something similar to a "stink palm". Stick the receipt into the crack of your ass.
Bonus points for not wiping that day.
I for one agree with you. I guess we have to choose our battles wisely. He seemed to be looking for a fight.
And to all those screaming about civil rights. How many times have you refused to show your receipt? Or do you comply so you can just get on your way?

touché!
I wonder why companies bother with copy protection myself. I can't think of any single player PC games that haven't been cracked at some point.
AMEN BROTHA!
learn to put together a decent system and maybe you can spend more time playing the games instead of installing them.
