    $1000 PC?

Who pays 1000 dollars for a PC? I paid less for my gaming rig! All you need for a MythTV is a 1 GHz pc with 256MB of ram. I could find that in the garbage these days. All you need then is a 80 dollar PVR-150 and a video card with an S-video out. Storage is about a gig an hour for mpeg2 files. Besides Tivo costs 20 bucks a month for the subscription. Once I pay for the computer I'm done.

That's why it's not a big deal. But it doesn't stop you or the editors from making a mountain out of a molehill.

Did you RTFA? They said they didn't think it would change the out come of the election, because they weren't able to do a full recount. The recount they did was rigged. They said they were only following standard procedure. If that's not going to effect the outcome I don't know what is. The flawed recount still gave Kerry more votes. If this was done in every county in Ohio it could have swung the election.

"Excellent news for TiVo!" Bad news for consumers.

Actually I think this is good news for everyone. I have a Dish 625 PVR and I love it. I've always heard how great Tivo was. It's great not just because of the superiority of hard drive recording but it was great because of the Tivo software. The Dish PVRs aren't that bad but I have a feeling that Dish Tivos would be fantastic.

The great thing about the Dish PVRs is they record the mpeg2 stream. They don't have to lose quality in the conversion of analog to digital. If I bought a Tivo I'd have to hook it up to the Audio/Video jacks on the back of my Dish box. I'd also have to rig up IR blaster I guess.

Tivo has done a great job and should be benefiting from it. I'd like to se Echostar buy Tivo (as long as they keep the hackability of the Tivos). Tivo software with direct capture of the mpeg2 stream would be fantastic.

    • Rip, categorize, play, and visualize MP3/Ogg/FLAC/CD Audio files. (FLAC, Vorbis, and MP3 encoding). Create complex playlists (and playlists containing playlists) through a simple UI.
    • An emulator frontend. (MAME, NES, SNES, generic PC games)
    • An image viewer/slideshow application.
    • A weather module.
    • A generic video player module, with automatic metadata lookups.
    • A DVD player / ripper module. Make perfect backups, or transcode down to smaller file sizes.
    • An RSS news feed reader module.

How well MythTV performs these tasks is up to someone else to say. But looks like a lot is covered here.
