MythTV with a $1000 PC, or $200 dual tuner TiVo with a year of prepaid service.
$1000 PC?
Who pays 1000 dollars for a PC? I paid less for my gaming rig! All you need for a MythTV is a 1 GHz pc with 256MB of ram. I could find that in the garbage these days. All you need then is a 80 dollar PVR-150 and a video card with an S-video out. Storage is about a gig an hour for mpeg2 files.
Besides Tivo costs 20 bucks a month for the subscription. Once I pay for the computer I'm done.
Did you RTFA? Prosecutors do not allege vote fraud or that the mishandling of the recount affected the outcome of the presidential election.
That's why it's not a big deal. But it doesn't stop you or the editors from making a mountain out of a molehill.
Did you RTFA? They said they didn't think it would change the out come of the election, because they weren't able to do a full recount. The recount they did was rigged. They said they were only following standard procedure. If that's not going to effect the outcome I don't know what is. The flawed recount still gave Kerry more votes. If this was done in every county in Ohio it could have swung the election.
"Excellent news for TiVo!" Bad news for consumers.
Actually I think this is good news for everyone. I have a Dish 625 PVR and I love it. I've always heard how great Tivo was. It's great not just because of the superiority of hard drive recording but it was great because of the Tivo software. The Dish PVRs aren't that bad but I have a feeling that Dish Tivos would be fantastic.
The great thing about the Dish PVRs is they record the mpeg2 stream. They don't have to lose quality in the conversion of analog to digital. If I bought a Tivo I'd have to hook it up to the Audio/Video jacks on the back of my Dish box. I'd also have to rig up IR blaster I guess.
Tivo has done a great job and should be benefiting from it. I'd like to se Echostar buy Tivo (as long as they keep the hackability of the Tivos). Tivo software with direct capture of the mpeg2 stream would be fantastic.
No. Absolutely wrong. When you buy a copyright protected item, you own that particular thing. You need zero license to make standard use of that particular thing you purchased.
Thank you for saying this. I hear this bull$#!^ so often on the internet, or even in my own computer user group, it makes me want to scream.
I guess Microsoft could've helped the bottom line by killing off the Xbox division. That thing was leaking money like a sieve.
Corel either wanted the magic pixie dust of Free software to automagically fix their dumbass business model or they were looking to get some blackmail money from Microsoft. They got the money and dump Linux like a hot potato.
I use Cablevisions Optimum Online cable Internet service. They have some mysterious rules about subscribers using bandwidth. Seems if you upload for any extended period of time you will get capped. Capped being data transfer limits.
My download is capped now at 250KB/s. That was the slowest I could download as far as I can remember. Is it our bandwidth to share? Is it our to use?
If we upload even 20KB/s will other ISPs start capping everyone.
Firefox developers have gotten stuck on the feature-creep treadmill. Instead of fixing incessant crashes and debilitating memory leaks, they add more whiz-bang features to compete with the "enemy".
Are you talking out your ass or do you have some proof of this? It looks like this news is evidence of the opposite of what you're saying.
The thing that makes me sad is that MS views people that watch MTV as their target audience. I don't even want people that ingest that filth sharing any sort of demographic with me.
MythTV is nearly (if not completely) useless for watching movies, listening to music, or looking at image media -- all things that Freevo does very well
I saw a lot more than a Tivo clone at the MythTV website.
Rip, categorize, play, and visualize MP3/Ogg/FLAC/CD Audio files. (FLAC, Vorbis, and MP3 encoding). Create complex playlists (and playlists containing playlists) through a simple UI.
An emulator frontend. (MAME, NES, SNES, generic PC games)
An image viewer/slideshow application.
A weather module.
A generic video player module, with automatic metadata lookups.
A DVD player / ripper module. Make perfect backups, or transcode down to smaller file sizes.
An RSS news feed reader module.
How well MythTV performs these tasks is up to someone else to say. But looks like a lot is covered here.
'These people'... America is not real tolerant of those kinds of statements these days.
What is wrong with what he said? Maybe you're overreacting. The "these people" he is refering to are the street merchants. Since when is "These people" a derogatory remark?
Please leave my font alone.
This was not funny at all.
So it's kind of like Google Earth, but not as useful. Seems these days, Microsoft is trying real hard to be altruistic.
Thanks Microsoft for *inventing* this!
Care to explain why you believe this?

Yea? So? There's nothing unhealthy about breast implants.
Viruses don't live.
They don't eat, excrete, convert energy, grow, reproduce or respond to stimuli.
So they can't be brought back to life.
Dish Network PVRs skip the 30 seconds. I think they skip 30 foward or they skip 10 seconds back if you miss something. It's a great feature.

Even Nuffer.
It's not a conspiracy.... it's a fun way to point out Microsofts data is way out of date.
Just look at the WTC.
When RMS talks about free he's talking about freedom. Now can you really say that freedom isn't important?
Free stuff that isn't "totally free" is *not* wrong
No.... Free stuff that isn't "totally free" is *not* free.
And then it just becomes an industry of... cool.

A statement like that puts an unfair association on Edison. It's like comparing apples to dog crap.
I'm guessing you don't know a thing about Edison.
