This. I meant for my statement to include Libertarians and intended for it to be implied as such, but perhaps I should have been more specific, as people look for any excuse to attack minutiae rather than the core argument that was originally proposed
Last I checked, emails weren't legally binding, as a contract is, yet people here are posting about how Facebook is corrupting the judge? The dude made the right choice, especially considering money-hungry lawyers won't even represent the obviously nutty client. I'm not fan of Facebook (in fact, I hate it), but come on, if you're going to stand up for the ultra-liberals, at least do so intelligently.
True, but the projected audience to buy the Wii U is comprised largely (though not entirely) of the same demographic that owns the Wii currently, hence the purpose of this article. I think aside from having an alternate controller to the tablet, Nintendo needs the necessary games for the new system if they want to appeal to hardcore gamers and branch out their fanbase.
Why would I care a bunch of families bought the Wii? All I care about are the games I care about playing, none of which are offered on the Wii. (except possibly Zelda, though it's at about a nine-year-old's level of difficulty)
This article pertains to hardcore gamers, which is not included in the original and probably not even the Wii U's demographic. Sure, it had the best sales and made a lot of money, but we're referring to the "hardcore gamers". In this regard, the Wii did not sell well.
The patent also addresses currency, if I'm not mistaken. It will be possible for workarounds for the patent, yes, but I don't think currency would easily be the means of doing so.
Most games nowadays have such a terrible replay value, it might as well not have any at all anyways.
Also, it's been mentioned numerous times what kills console game profits is buying used games, as opposed to pirating. Reason being that the video game stores make all the money off selling used games and the video game company doesn't see a dime off of it. As a consumer, why WOULDN'T you buy the used version of the game if you can save five bucks for the exact same thing, with a seven day return policy? Expect to see this and more approaches to this issue (such as an increase in DLC) by video game developers in the future.
Should he be extradited? Yes. Will he? Probably not.
Here's why:
-He attempted suicide previously.
-His mother is diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which is often hereditary.
-He shows signs of multiple illnesses, many of which psychologists are unable to diagnose.
-He is 19.
-He has severe agoraphobia.
And most of all:
The defense is that he won't be able to adjust to being extradited, his mother saying, "sending him to America is a death sentence", and seeing as how McKinnon still hasn't been extradited after four years, I see no reason why this will be any different. It's a damn shame.
Read this article, and you'll see why this shit won't get what he deserves:

Wasn't there a law that you must not lie in court? Or does that not apply when you can just say "oh look this person's minor quirk looks like a condition! Easy defense".
This is why most legal systems don't work. The only condition that should affect a sentence is one that prevents them from determining right from wrong, such as retardation, not "[a] disorder that is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests." - Wikipedia.
I hope the guy gets the full sentence.
4chan already censors child pornography, so this wouldn't really serve any purpose except providing unnecessary censorship to mostly innocent (albeit mildly depraved) people. And before someone tries correcting me saying "what about Anonymous hackers?", Anonymous's underground has nothing to do with 4chan, except hold them in contempt.
Smoke and mirrors? I live in Texas, and have crossed the border to deal with clients in Mexico, and the LAST thing the border is, is smoke and mirrors. I suggest if you speak as though you know what you're talking about, you actually know what you're talking about.
What this article doesn't address is what comprises a "gamer". Someone that has an Angry Birds app or plays Farmville for a certain amount of time, by the standards of most studies, is a "gamer". If you were to eliminate those and focus only on those that either play their consoles regularly, or "actual" computer games, you'll find the female to male ratio will drop drastically, thus explaining why they're the underrepresented demographic in video games.

Referring to the anti-corporation, anti-government posts on /., which is what the responses have been thus far in this thread in regards to Facebook.

True that. I meant they'd need one that often to keep me entertained, as that's the only reason I even stay with Nintendo in the first place.
Provided they come out with one every six months and it isn't the difficulty level of a nine-year-old, maybe.

Yes, because forcing pet sales underground to an unregulated black market sounds like the most humane way to deal with animals.
This was a decision by a multi-platform developer and has absolutely nothing to do with Nintendo.
You mean they play a returned game before selling it as used. It's illegal to open a game then sell it as new, due to copyright laws.

I think the author is confusing geeks with hipsters.
What planet do you live on?
Nice Futurama reference.
Not sure if troll, or incredibly stupid.

Way to combat allegedly being a bigot with being one yourself.

Now if they could only add a feature to increase the size of your tin foil hat.
