Remember, you can never really trust ANYBODY on the internet, no matter how low their uid may be.
So if I trust you then I have to trust what you're saying is true... in which case I shouldn't trust what you're saying which means what you're saying could be a lie... which means I *can* trust you which means what you're saying is true... in which case I shouldn't trust what you're saying... ARGH!!! MENTAL LOOP! MEMORY LEAK!
Interesting read. I live in Britain and obviously am not exposed to the average American but I take it you're generalising about U.S. women? And if so then what is the average U.S. male like? Does he play mind hockey with emotions? Does he realise that the average U.S. woman is trying to unbalance him?
I find it hard to believe that people would stay together with the women you describe. And if they don't stay together with the women you describe then the women cannot act that way for much longer.
Where are the intelligent emotionally-strong hard-working women who are upfront and honest?
That's a shame actually cause the system is pretty good. Obviously their cutomer service needs work. I swapped when I got pissed off with all the junk I was getting in hotmail so didn't really need more than the free service.
Maybe one of the other webmail systems will work for you?
GOD! It's no wonder businesses have such bad reputations! All the suggestions here reflect very badly on the management. If I have an issue that needs dealing with then I raise it immediately with my manager. If it's a big enough issue then it gets passed up until a decision is made.
Managers aren't there to be coddled and wrapped in wool. Managers are handle the bigger issues and problems addressing a company.
My reccomendation? Be honest and forthright. Sit your manager down with a list of issues and for each issue devise a plan to solve that issue. For each plan assign resource, priorities, costings, benefits and risks.
What's the frecking point in having a meeting like this if all you're going to do is ignore the problems that are there to be solved.
How likely do you think it is that he will ever face a situation in which there are dire consequences if he can't get to his gun in such a hurry?
Extremely unlikely! And in answer to your next question... extremely likely.
For most people, the first risk is much smaller than the second. Thus, it is prudent to keep your guns locked up, as a general rule.
Agreed. Maybe you should just NOT have a gun?! *Shock Horror Awe* Anyway, I see the great-grandparent stores has a gun for target practice so I understand why he has a gun. I was wondering if it was for self-defense.
As an aside.... how long would it take for you to get your keys, unlock the metal case, unlock the lifejacket, get the gun, get the ammunition and load the ammunition?
And following on from that thought, why do you own a gun?
Yes but we've seen the outcome of the adult. They've spent their time.
The sad part about the death of a child is the death of the potential. The child hasn't been able to spend their time.
Who do we pity more? The adult who threw away their time or the one who was oppressed and prevented from spending their time constructively? Every child who dies early is the latter. Most adults are the former.
And thinking further about it.... death is the theft of time. Thus when an old person dies there is very little time stolen. When a child dies, all their time is stolen.
But would you buy a CD-ROM if you didn't have a CD player? You're buying a DVD-ROM without a player for that DVD. (Sure you can play one type of DVD's on your system but then the expectation that you can play other types of DVD's is just a matter of semantics and ignorance.)
Actually a great example is if you bought a CD-ROM with Quake III on it and tried to play it on your home stereo. No can do.
Anyway, despite your missed argument I like the concept of time as a commodity. Sounds like you might have read Atlas Shrugged which introduces similar concepts (although the moral concept it draws is flawed).
I don't think it's so much that we should ask 'Why?' but more of a case that we should ask 'Why not?' and look at the reasons why we should not do some things.
If we never asked ourselves what the consequences for our actions are, then the human race would have died out a long time ago when our ancestors stood at the top of a cliff and wondered 'What does freefall feel like?'.
*splat*
Yeah I know the example I gave was over the top. But I believe you should have confidence in your abilities. I know I'm very good at what I do. I also know that I can be better with experience and that I don't handle boredom well (hence the posting here);) .
Nine weeks to unemployment. Please hire me in NYC/Long Island area
Remove the 'please' in your sig cause if anyone is going to hire someone from viewing your sig it'll be for your technical ability and not your desperation. I'm not too sure how other people feel about it but to me the 'Please' indicates that you require a favour. And the first thing I wonder is if you require a favour because your skills aren't up to scratch.
Now if you'd said, "Need a XXXXXXX in the NYC area? You get the best here!" or something with a bit more confidence then I'd be tempted. Of course that's just me. Feel free to get more feedback. Hope this helps!:)
This is not out of touch with reality; actually this is the nature of reality.
But you're only half-way there. When people make a sacrifice, 9 times out of ten they hurt alot of people and friends along the way AND their sacrifice goes un-noticed and or lost in the depths of time. Agreed that sacrifices sometimes need to be made but to suggest that an IP argument between the Open Source community and SCO is sufficient cause to warrant throwing a job in the bin is idealistic and unrealistic.
Sacrifices and causes can be very very selfish. Choose wisely.
How evil would a company have to be before you'd stop taking money from them?
Let's put some context to that question.
Your wife is at home looking after your 1 year old child. Your 3 year old is now starting school. You're struggling to cope with paying mortgage, food, petrol, clothes (kids grow fast), maintenance of your life, electricity, water, phone, probably internet, any outstanding loans and most especially school fees. Oh and your mom is now in a nursing home which costs a hell of a lot. The job market is screwed and you're skillset isn't such that you stand out from the mass of redundant IT workers.
So with that context in mind I ask YOU, how evil does a company have to be before you choose to put you and your family out on the streets?
"Hi Honey I'm home! I've just got back from the shops and I bought the Times! HOLY SHIT!"
*CRAAAAASSHHH*
"I'm alright honey. I just tripped over the CD included in the newspaper and knocked over your favourite vase... What? What do you mean you want a divorce?!"
Other than a few media clips the CD doesnt contain anything different from a normal newspaper.
The "few media clips" you refer to is exactly WHY the CD is different from a normal newspaper. I don't know about you but I LIKED hearing samples from the new albums. It's made me consider buying the Dido album. AND I saw a clip from City Of God which I hadn't realised was released so I might get that as well.
I think distributing the same thing in two mediums is annoying.
It's not the same thing. Distribute video and sound on paper and then you have the same thing. Invalid argument.
I either want to read the paper, or watch a video.
So the CD forces you to watch it whenever you try to read the newspaper? Do one, then the other.
The short clips on the CD are easily available online too.
That helps people with a dial-up connection. [/Sarcasm]
The only place it makes sense to me to put a CD is on computer or game magazines where the CD content (game demos and apps) cannot be duplicated by 'traditional' means.
Let me get this straight. You're saying that Movie clips, game previews, DVD and Video clips and samples from music albums can be duplicated by 'traditional' means? Please clarify.
Remember, you can never really trust ANYBODY on the internet, no matter how low their uid may be.

Isn't it obvious. It compacts the lawn of whoever buys the 580 tonne lawn compacter.
Hurry up! I'm still waiting!

You mean like a small motor with an offset weight? Would that work for your girlfriend?
That's a shame actually cause the system is pretty good. Obviously their cutomer service needs work. I swapped when I got pissed off with all the junk I was getting in hotmail so didn't really need more than the free service.

The best part is that it allows you to BOUNCE (yes that's right, bounce) messages after you read them.

"Some things gnaw at a man worse than dying."
I'd be interested to find out if the person who wrote that did so before or after they died.
Leaving a job may cause your family a rough patch for awhile but that will eventually pass.
How do you know that?
It is better to be able to look your son(s) in the eye.
You won't be able to see his fucking face when he's taken away by Social Services because you can't pay for food and are living on the streets.

My answer is pretty farking evil! What's yours?
Agreed that they shouldn't sue a twelve year old girl but that aside the media are REALLY milking this:
When reporters visited teh apartment last night, Brianna -- who her mom says is an honors student -- was helping her brother with his homework.
Ahhh... you've stumbled on the mystery of "Go you big red fire engine!!"
Go forth and multiply!!
Hah hah! That so tipifies Aussie optimism and enthusiasm! :)
Go you big red fire engine!!!
But I thought the British took the idea of the mechanical "computers" and created an electronic computer.
Having silicon transistors instead of valves is simply a variation of design. Proof-of-concept and prototyping was performed at Bletchley.
Adding a CD to the paper makes it clumsy.
What?
