As others have pointed out, sending a WiFi signal over distances greater than 500 feet is nothing special. I worked for an ISP in 2001/2002 that was doing wireless Internet service. At the time, Verizon did not give a rat's ass for doing DSL there, and the local cable company couldn't find their ass with GPS unit and a flashlight, so they didn't matter either. The longest distance we did was 15 miles, that was through high voltage electircal transmission lines (125,000 to 250,000 Volt range ones) and over a sizable lake.
I had noticed that the BIOS on the controlller card was a bit old and decided to go about updating it. But on my system, I had removed the floppy drive to put in more hard drives. (It's a Dell PowerEdge 400SC, two extra hard drives can fit in the spot for the floppy drive using the floppy drive rails.) Knowing that my system can boot of a USB drive, I went and tried to "install" one of the bootdisk utilities on it. They all pitched a bitch because I wasn't trying to install it on a floppy drive. The phrase, "No Shit, Sherlock!" came to my mind at that point. Next I used FreeDOS, and this time I reached success. Gotta love Free Software/Open Source, it just fucking works. With FreeDOS installed, and the BIOS utility loaded on, reboot the system. System BIOS sees it and has it as a boot option in the One Time Boot Menu. Loaded into DOS, ran the Promise BIOS update utility, stopped cold in my tracks, it complained that it was being loaded from a floppy drive! Apparently, a 128MB USB stick is not good enough to flash a fucking SATA controller card. All told I spent an hour trying to get it installed.
Wanting to update your BIOS: One slap against the forehead Being told that you can't make a bootdisk on a USB stick by a Win32 program: One head slam on the keyboard Having a cocka-mamee program tell you you CAN'T update because you're not using a Floppy: Fuckin' Priceless
This is what I've installed for my mother for her to work on her typing and it has help a bunch. It's ncurses based and there are also binaries available for different OSs.
My employer is not only footing the bill for me to see it, they're also renting out the theatre for that morning to see it. Though to be fair it's just my department, ~40 people. It was voted on for the department fun event for this quarter by us. So you could technically say my department will be some of the first in the country to see it.
Your post seems to indicate you are not looking at the entire Turion line. Indeed, there are chips with only 512K of L2, but there also others with 1MB. Also, the Turion has double the L1 cache compared to the Pentium-M, 64K.
Maybe the reason your last post was modded down was your lack of supporting evidence and merely speculative.
This is similar to a peice of property that my grandfather "used" to own and the county wanting to collect property tax. Technically it was still in his name, but was abandoned. For years they always sent notices of unpaid taxes, which my grandfather would reply back saying that they should take the property and "stick it up their Ass and go Fuck themselves with it." Nothing negative came of this, no warrants or judicial action and such, and they finally tapered to trickle. When he died, I moved into his house; I still received a couple of these notices, but ignored them also.
Now my mother got one of these notices and being the do-gooder she is became scared and promptly sent them a portion of the "bill." Unfortuantly, she didn't know the history of this property and the quest for the county to take it and "Stick it up their Ass and Go Fuck themselves" with it. The county, being the mosquitoe that it is, noticed that they had gotten hold of a fresh vein, promptly cranked up the "boogey man" letters and such.
So now we're back to square one, getting a letter from some paid lawyer from the nearest big city. And all the bills being sent back and take the property and "Stick it up their Ass and Go Fuck yourselves" written in black marker.
The moral of the story is: Don't succomb to pressure from some government pencil pushing prick when they haven't the resources or the balls to enforce their whining.:-)
I found this to be an interesting counter-point to the links you provided. If what the article suggests is true (petroleum being a inorganic substance produced by the Earth itself), then most, if not all environmental treaties would need to be carefully rethought or thrown out.
I will state that I, personally, am no friend of oil entirely. Especially with regard to the means of acquisition and production. My personal preference of an alterative fuel would be Biodeisel. For the reasons of decentralization (both in aquiring the raw materials and production of product), better cohesion of local economies, and locally environmentally sustainable.
This is nice and all, but how about a comprehensive resource for setting up an internal network running IPv6. When adoption of IPv6 is always on the "Coming soon..." list (in North America at least), it would be nice to see an article, HOWTO, or something dealing the current setup and pitfalls.
Knowing that the tools (RADVD or DHCPv6, 6to4 gateways, DNS "AAAA" records, etc.) are out there is one thing, knowing how to get them to fit together and pull it off is another. If anybody knows how to setup an internal IPv6-only network where systems are accessible from "the outside", info would be appreciated.
But helping those who are less fortunate is the contract that underwrites _every_ nation in the world today. Ever wonder why the government doesn't tax you if your income is under a certain level? Or why medicare exists. Well, it's because the government is trying to help those who are less fortunate that us richer folks - that's why!
Please point out where in the United States of America's Constitution that I am bound by contract to help those "less fortunate" than me, since we are talking in a discussion about a US Federal government. If you look at the document, it is basically an agreement amoung State Republics to establish free trade, a common currency, a postal system, and how to interact with other nations.
With regard to the main discussion: A point that does not seem to be brought up is the fact the FCC gave itself and only itself the power to regulate VoIP. This power to regulate was not given by an act of Congress, but by a decision the FCC itself made.
It's unfortunate, IMHO, that we are commenting and debating over the outcome of such rulings. The questions that need to be asked, debated, and answered are:
Is regulation of communications necessary and desirable?
If so, does the desired regulation have a constituional standing (Federal, State, local, etc.)?
If so, what would be the extent of such regulation?
This story is about a blimp currently in the skies above Washington D.C. What better way to have surveillance over a population than with a very quiet slow moving craft that can carry a large payload. Unmanned flying drones cost too much, travel too fast, don't have the long flight times, and have the payload capacity. Airships (or blimps) give more bang for the buck.
Looking at Kerry's own site, he fail to do much of anything in regards to opposing the Patriot Act. Check this link http://www.johnkerry.com/pdf/pr_2004_0525b_a.pdf For those not wanting to open the PDF file, the top line states "Kerry Wants to Keep 95 Percent of Patriot Act and Strengthen the Rest".
As to the Skeletor reference, both Kerry and Bush are members of Yale's Skull & Bones society.
If the Government is representing Peoria and Birmingham as much as New York and Los Angeles, it is not representing the people. It is not one man, one vote. If the majority of Americans choose to live in cities, why doesn't the election represent that?
Remember that before the 17th Amendment, the States legislatures were the ones electing the Senators. In effect adding two additional check on power of the Federal government. First, any increase of Federal power would in effect have to be approved by the States, who themselves would have to be approve by the Citizens of the States. Second, it insured that the most populace States could not "railroad" legislation or power through Congress.
This all insured (until the rules were changed) that power remained in the hands of the Citizens and government did not turn into a form of "mob rule" and/or enormous popularity contest.
I would say it pretty much started when people accepted to be called a consumer instead of a citizen. It's the whole "I have rights, so piss off!" factor that has been lost.
From the steps the OP stated, the card appears to be based upon the Atheros 511x chipset, requiring the use of the (IMO very good, but some assembly required) madwifi driver. Madwifi is the only driver that uses the athx designation. FYI, that driver requires that you use the CVS version. Project can be found at Madwifi's project page .

I would guess that the "Mickey Mouse" is there because of a possible center pivot irrigation system being used.

D3DX is regularily updated, GLU hasn't been updated in years
OpenGL 2.0 was released 7 September 2004.
The TODO list for the DRI driver has it mentioned in the Big Projects section.
