You could somehow devilishly devise an EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) device that you could carry around. Of course you would fry any and every electronic device within x meters. (I'm neglecting the negative health benefits of this activity of high intensity EM waves traveling through the body... but I'd probably try it a couple of times none-the-less just "to make sure it works".)

Why is it inherent that the most trolls come out when a story about supercomputers shows up on/.?
They are developing CPU Cores, where all execution units are connected asynchronously - that makes it easy to reach an extremly high clock frequency.
Where I come from asynchronous means without clock. So as much as you would like to believe, these processors will have no clocking frequency, but you may say that they will run much faster (assuming good design) compared to clocked processors.
Essentially I already do boycott new and used CDs. I don't have any money to purchase them after I already spend my millions^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H pennies on school, food, supplies, and computing gear (in that order).
Is it too much to ask for a goddamn lithium battery on this thing? I mean c'mon people there is no way that I could transfer 10GB over a 10Mb network and this thing have a long enough battery life to stay alive. I would gladly rather see firewire replace the ethernet as some have already suggested.
Why the hell would MickeySoft want to undermine Intel? Intel moves Windows into people's homes. You don't see Dell or Gateway shipping any AMD systems do you? It's called Wintel (tm) for a reason kiddies!
The dorms will sometime have their own allocated bandwidth that no one else will touch. I assume you know about the university upgrading to a 40Mbit pipe in April sind you said something about the new additions.
I personally am on the side with the CNS admins trottling down the bandwith to "non-educational" uses. Under the 20Mbit pipe, the limit was constantly being used by "educational" things (ftp, www, email, etc.).
Disclaimer: I do not work for CNS, however I am on the netadm-l and do talk to a few engineering sysadmins once in a while. These are the places I get most of my info.
Thats what my university did. For the entire campus I believe it its throttled down to 64-128kbps. I have tried to connect and I can never connect for more than 5 minutes and while connected cannot achieve more than 0.5kbps.
The only thing that keeps them from blocking these ports off entirely is that there is one professor that claims he needs it for "research"
I nearly killed myself falling backwards out of my chair when I went to some seemilng innocent link which actually went to http://goatse.cx/giver.html.

Now with improved networking support! :)
If I may throw my $0.02 into the mix...
Linux Magazine has a "LAMP Post" section in their magazine. It is usually well written and older months are available here.
Moreover, I read Linux Magazine cover to cover (multiple times usually) faithfully every month. There is information in there for everyone.
There is nothing wrong w/ a little portable porn.
Here?
It appears that I was trolling... I didn't see that the lithium was optional.
My bad.
I forgot to add that if Lithium were used instead of Alkaline batts this system would be a little bit lighter as well.

Trolling, trolling, keep those /.ers trolling! Rawhide!
That story was weak. Credit card fraud happens. It's happened to me. Does it matter more since it is going to *gasp* Ter-ruh (as Bush would say)?

Mod on moderator man!
I was too busy masturbating to the porn I am downloading in my non-Cingular internet connection :)

Mod away...
AFAIK...

What is wrong w/ nuclear weapons research on supercomputers?
You should be happy they are doing it on computers instead of blowing up things in the desert.
First Post!
The competition is "going to be a tough area to crack..."
:)
It's pretty bad when the DRM people want to crack stuff too.

Scary!

...a beowulf of these :) j/k
Happy April Fools everyone! My favorite one was about google's PCs (Pigeon Cluster).

Less than 6 months ago I saw a shinkwrapped retail Creative Labs 56k modem at Wal-Mart with a sticker on the box that said "Y2K and MP3 Compatible."
:(
Its a sorry bastard that is gonna be buying that modem. I remember *trying* to download MP3s over a dialup line.
