    The article clearly points this fact out, as does every other frikkin' article on Alan Turing, to which the answer should probably be: WHO GIVES A CRAP?

    Because its a big freaking deal. Its not like he was a mathmatician who happened to also be gay on the side. After helping immensely in WW2, and inventing programming, he was forced to admit he was homosexual.

    He was imprisoned as a security risk, and forced to either spend the rest of his life in jail or take hormone injections. He chose the hormone injections. His career was over, and he wasn't allowed to continue to work on the thing he is now famous for. Its strongly suspected that the forced government injections helped drive him to suicide a few years later.

    FORCED GOVERNMENT INJECTIONS to try to stop him from being gay, and therefore easily susceptible to communists.

    I know many people are jaded by political correctness and media hype, but in this case, it is a BIG GODDAMN ISSUE that this guy was gay.

    If he had been black/female/whatever, and accomplished what he did, and in the end was imprisoned and eventually driven to suicide as a direct result of his ethnicity, he would be constantly brought up as a grim example of racism.

    Children in school would learn about how the man who cracked Enigma and might have literally saved WW2 was eventually driven to commit suicide....

    While no gay person I know has even heard of Turing. I never heard about him until college.

    I think its another case of people not giving a damn about geeks...

    No AMD suggestions please. I've never found them to be as stable as Intel CPUs .

    I have an Intel machine myself, but have had AMDs in the past. The reason people think that AMD chips are unstable is that many people buy AMD processors when they're trying to get a cheap computer, and also use cheap memory, cheap motherboards, etc.

    Get an AMD with a good motherboard, and it is as stable as an Intel.

    Not trying to troll, but in my school, 90% of the incoming students took advanced calc first semester freshmen year.

    I don't use any advanced math in my day to day programming job, but solving math problems uses the same type of thinking as solving many programming problems.

    Basically, if you're having problems solving differential equation problems, you're never going to be able to really conceptualize what

    means. Its why you see people start to struggle when they try to use STL, and have just memorized the syntax instead of knowing whats it means.

    The windows are ANIMATED. Its the future! Many of you may not have the vision to imagine a world where windows are animated and icons move. Look at your desktop now, and imagine your windows being animated. Do you really think that could happen on your pathetic "modern" computer?

    I've been a programmer for several years now, and I applaud Microsoft for fearlessly driving this technology forward.

    We can no longer claim Microsoft doesn't innovate... they're clearly years ahead of their time.

    I think that if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't have entered a technical field. Its great money comparitively when you're first starting out, but then it tops out when you're in your 30s. Most people change careers then.

    Now, in the past generations, the techies had lifelong jobs at IBM and GE. In this generation, we're all getting fucked. Its not surprising that attitudes regarding scientists have gone down.

    Scientists/engineers are just a slightly more expensive cog in the machine.

    if you think 1million people should want something at $30, but 30% will just copy it the market price then becomes $50 or so if you want to make most of what you feel you are owed. This ignores the fact that if it was only available at $30, then most of that 30% would probably not buy it anyway.

    That is so absolutely, completely wrong. Thats not economics at all.

    You figure out how many people will buy something at each price, and then you price it to make as much money as possible.

    Do you think one day if piracy was magically "fixed" that EA would announce $15 off all of their games?

    It bends the arguement so just a FEW MORE people think "Why, Americans are just too stupid!" or "They have to go overseas because we just can't produce the people!"

    When really, we're laying off WELL EDUCATED, HARD WORKING people to put jobs overseas. Whether or not you think outsourcing is a good or bad thing, please don't swallow the latest sound of bullshit from our nation's elite.
