You have to remember, here on Slashdot the nerd-myopia is strong. A lot of the denizens have a hard time conceiving why average people don't like tweaking every last aspect of their machines. The concept of a limited computing appliance is something they simply cannot incorporate into their mentality, despite the fact that they are obviously popular, useful, and growing.
I didn't ask them to protect me. They took it upon themselves. They coerce their keep from my paycheck. They can damn well be held to the highest standards of conduct in those circumstances.
What we really need is an amendment to the effect that any powers granted to any government representative are also granted to any citizen. That's true equality.
The unpalatable truth is that killing old people off would be good for everybody, aside of course from the specific old people killed. There would be less expenditure needlessly prolonging useless life, and fewer people who ferociously hold outmoded opinions to the detriment of all.
You have an idealistic view of the role of the government. You seem to have this odd belief that the halls of power are somehow going to not be stocked full of the powerful.
Really? My iPhone goes for about 4 days if I kill the wifi and avoid playing games and don't go out of service too often. Granted, that is sort of artificial since I constantly have an urge to play some game or another.
I can never understand how people think that the most powerful organization in the history of the world, rife with endemic corruption, can be trusted to somehow right itself if only given more power.
Of course it seems like a fair approach to you - you would get something for nothing. You'd have a hard time finding people who wouldn't take that deal if offered.
It's funny reading comments that can be restated as "I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I'm not letting that stop me!"
I wish he had attractive arrogance like the Slashdot nerds do.

Shhhh, the nerds have to feel like they're the super-special elite.
Snitchin is bitchin.
As you may have guessed, the estimate appears to be based only on the number of black hats, rather than all hackers.
Good luck on your rms-like quest to redefine the common usage of a term to suit your desires.
Aside from oversimplifying (which is me being nice about calling you a liar) at steps 1 and 3, you're totally telling the truth.
Ahh, you've missed the point. Not terribly surprising.

I guess we should wait until they are the Nazis, huh?

I guess your way would work with perfect people.

The progressive state doesn't like supporting other people? Is that irony?
Asphyxiation exposes breathing issues and air quality problems, which in principle...

When did your home become synonymous with a town?
We need more of the Slashdottian "you agree with me, therefore you must be intelligent" in the world. That's the true genius we're lacking.
Yeah, that Star Trek will never last.
Not to pile on or anything, but you pretty clearly aren't actually watching any western animation if you think it's all for kids.
It sure isn't like anime, I'll grant you that. If that's the only genre you consider "adult" then yeah, stay away.
Or like when Rachel Maddow tells the raving masses what to believe and they just go along with it, unquestioningly.
I think we can play this game all night!
You're... something close to an idiot if you thing the distinction between "natural" and "synthetic" has any measurable meaning.
Slippery slope arguments are boring and stupid. Please work on your shtick.
