    Apple doesn't call FreeBSD "iOS". They call iOS "iOS". Makes sense, huh? More specifically, the FreeBSD parts are a layer over a Mach microkernel, and parts of userland. Apple doesn't call it FreeBSD becausee it isn't. Just like OpenBSD isn't FreeBSD either, despite the fact that they may share some code.

    Similarly, Android refers to the entire package, which happens to include a Linux kernel. It's no different than Debian or Red Hat in that regard.

    I have a first-gen iPod Touch, and I will be quite upset if the only successor when it finally dies is an iPhone that requires a data plan and a two year contract to be a usable device. I would also be upset if it cost more than the $200 I paid for a brand-new iPod Touch in 2008.

    I know you're just a lying piece of crap, but just in case you're not... you need to stop buying Dell. I upgraded my older PC to Win 7 and it plays every game I throw at it perfectly. I don't have any DirectX 11 games; they are all 9 or 10. And this is on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

    Apple has the iPod Touch and iPad, along with its phones. It definitely has more iOS devices out there than any other hardware manufacturer has Android devices.

    Size has never mattered. 1) Apple has no monopoly on any (reasonably defined) market. 2) Apple is not anti-competitive in any market in which it participates. There have always been PCs, audio players, phones and tablets that were not Apple's, and likely always will be.

    Apple controls its own software and hardware, but it imposes no control on any other player. That's what makes your hypothetical question the wishful thinking of a rabid bigot.

    I agree that it would be nice to have a better app-sharing facility, but it's not as if the current implementation is a secret.

    Also, all i-Devices have a proper filesystem, they just chroot apps.

    Not only that, but "consumer" water, gas and electricity may be run 24/7 without any complaint at all from the utilities. In fact, I would be surprised if water were the only one of the 3 not in constant use in most homes (during the winter, especially).

    You are an idiot because you have taken a quote from Jobs out of context so you could use it as a troll.

    The browser that was current on Mac OS in 1997 was IE 4/5 (IE 5 was available in the first release of Mac OS X, not sure if it was available in '97). IE on the Mac was indeed a good browser, compared to other browsers of the era. IE did not share any (signficant) code between the Windows and Mac OS versions, but even the Windows versions (4 and 5) were not bad. Certainly better than Netscape 4!

    It's not real GPS, as in, it doesn't receive and act on signals from the GPS satellites.

    And if the GP really wants to spend a several grand to get the equivalent of the Retina display for a 9.7" screen, more power to him.
