What we need is not a port of the pee cee graphics standard, but games ported to linux.

BTW id software has done a great job of it ever since doom, and even the q3a engine that's in rtcw rocks on Linux. It's all OpenGL

I guess it's just fear, laziness and ignorance that keeps users on win doze, and keeps vendors in the win doze rut.

I don't want to go out and buy a win doze pee cee for games, I want more games ported to Linux! If a game is available only in a win doze version, I'm not interested, sorry.

And yes, I have not only 2 computers, I have 4 computers, one of them a laptop - but why would I want to put win doze on any of them? I'd rather not, thanks!

Well, for the record linux != latex. tex/latex are cross platform - they are available even for windoze...

In the linux world, there are a number of ways to handle ms office docs. Abiword and gnumeric do a good job of handling basic ms-word and ms-excel docs - they are lightweight, with a nice feel, but not all the rare features are there. khttpd was an experiment, and there has been talk of removing it from the mainstream kernel.

Tux OTOH is actively maintained by Red Hat & Ingo Molnar, and last time I checked it was the specweb champ for 1,2 and 4 way systems.

If you look on their site, their are up-to-date, conveniently packaged binary and source rpms specifically for every major linux distro, or tarballs should you prefer that.
