Unless you use RedCarpet and then you just put a Check in GNUCash and it gets installed. It have been using Qucken since 2.0 Dos Version not likely to change now. I like the way quicken handles data entry. By the way I have used double entry accounting on both paper and Peachtree which GNUCash works alot like.
Because Cable Modems Weren't designed that way. Even in areas with no caps and good networks usually you get taped at 756K up yes I have seen that rare person who somehow gets 2 Megs up but they are rare and slow down fast as more people move into an area.
There is more to running network then just the network. There is Support and dispite what many slashdoters might think were are not all just trained monkeys. There are lots of cost most people don't relize. For Instance if you have problems and call into support the cost is somewhere arount $30-$40 a call when you compute phone/personal/supervisor cost. No if you need to send someone to a custmers house for fix something add another $200-$300 Dollars. So 1 Problem with 1 Custmer can Easily Cost $250-$350 Dollar Custmers don't alwas call once for a problem how many months does it take just to make up for support cost not alone pay back loans on the cost to put those lines in and oc12 which many ISP use still cost a pretty penny.
Yes but then the Spamer would have to pay for sending that spam. Don't get me wrong I am glad that USPS didn't get ahold of EMail but Atleast if everyone Email was metered then spam wouldn't be a bad because the additional cost to send a million letter would be much higher.
Yes an No. I think the Idea of having Muilt-sheet under one workbook is good but how many of ous get worksheet with 2 Blank worksheets taking up space. I thing the default of 3 combined with the fact that so few people seem to even have anyidea what those tabs are even used for makes alot of wasted space being used. I like the idea by the way. However MS starting with 3 as its Default instead of 1 is a bad idea. I set my defaults to one and add as needed. How many people do you suppose known how to do this?
Except When you try to add package X and it depends on Y but Package Z can't be used with Y so you have to remove Z then Package A requires Package Z then Package B Require Package A. I had go thought almost 7 Layers of DSelect Telling Me This Doesn't work without that and Final Said Hell With it and Reinstalled Redhat.
No it wont as someone how closed explorer.exe by mistake it doesn't close it down. Althought I had to reboot because there was no way to start any new apps at that point.
No it about tring to make a balance in the market. If apple controls 30% Linux/Unix/Everything but Windows controls 20% and Windows controls 50% microsoft would have to make sure that windows played well with the Mac and other OS's or they would loss even more business. If everyone did a good job of following standards then BeOS would have has a change and XYZ Companys New OS as well because all it would have to do is work with existing standard and it could be used in what ever nitch it was designed for.
why aren't books and movies hurting much from PTP system and the Reason why are numbers. Here is my basic formula that can say whether it will be copied or purchased.
(cost of item - cost of blank) / (Time x How Hard x qualty) > Guilt of Doing = Copied (Pirated) else Purchase
Books have a high cost of blanks and are hard to produce thought the size of a.PDF file is small. Movies have a relative low cost and high time and you loss qualty and take alot of time to download. These itmes have a low amount of coping and many people who own a copy will still go and purchase a legal copy.
On the other hand music has large cost of item ($15.00 to $20.00) compared to $.05 dollars for a blank CD. Takes little Time to download and isn't hard at all with good to great qualty. This is a bad for the RIAA who make most of it money thought the sales of CD and Radio Lic.
As some who use to support those crappy Hybrid Cable Modem From RCN I can tell you there are 3 Types 1 with Telephone return path built in at 14.4 2nd was with an Extern 33.6 Modem due to phone lines ran mostly at 28.8 and 3rd Style was 2-way with went both ways thought the cable line. Hybrids had major problems most where the fact that we well replacing them every other month and sending them back for repairs all the time. Altought some custmers loved them with the nears static IP address. As for the change in bandwidth his area is probly using more overall bandwidth so he is getting a smaller pice of the DS3 that RCN puts in it area.
Have You actually read a Howto recently or some of those INSTALL or README doc. I am tring to install a recipe program that uses MYSQL and I followed the INSTALL doc and what came up isn't close to what the doc said I should see and most howto that I read require some general knownledge as most software has been updated and you have to figure out those changes again something that someone who bought a Mandrake CD and Wal-mart and came home because he heard that linux is so great and ask a basic question that he has no idea even were to look.
I to have been using linux in Slack 1.3.? I can't rember anymore. Well I have used on my test system just about ever Distro out there. And as long as you stick with the Default Set of App for any Distro then dependencies are fine but you go outside of those then you run into problems. You don't see it in Debian as much as Debian includes just about ever Open Source Program out there. But I have Tried to install programs that there aren't.deb for and trust me Dependecies Problems do happen in Debian.
Check my server log I run apache but I get 1000 of request the last 5 Days of the month for C:\winnt\... If I ran an unproteched system during those 5 Days I think 25 Mins would be a little long.
Yes and No like everthing thay have trade off's. I have general just formated everything and installed fresh cleans out old lib I no longer needs and avoid Dep Hell something I get my self into from time to time. Now the bad side. You lose many of those little changes you forgot you made so you loss time having to reset most but not all of the changes you made last time. Sometime this just don't work well in new install that work great in upgrades. My Laptop upgraded to Redhat 7.3 Fine but I was running close on HD space so I decided to reinstall everything and took the laptop to work with me oneday and format and install 7.3 didn't have a Nic with Me and used it to download photo from my digital camera now I can't get the network card to work for nothing. I reinstall 7.3 Several Time and Tried everything under the sun to get it to work but no go. I can;t install 7.2 as the drive is in ext3 and 7.2 wont support. I have spent hours try to make it work and once done I will document what fixed it and reformat that drive and reinstall everything as I have messed up alot of software try to make it work.
There is one Product that still isn't there and that is a decent check book program. I have been using quicken for close to 10 Years now and there is no way that I will stop. I my house I have 1 Windows Machine and 3 Linux Machines. I don't picture that 1 Windows machine going anywhere anytime as all the check book programs under linux that I have seen just are even close to being able to replace quicken granted Quicken has had 12+ Years to get were it is now.
Do you honestly think, with the amount of support for public school funding by the government today, that the funding for this kind of project would be anywhere near enough?
Have you looked at the numbers. If I rember the amout right the amount given to a school system for 1 Student in DC would be enf. to fund 3 Students in many private schools. I bet they would get a much better school to boot.
I looked in my preferences panel and dont find anything about gestures is it note installed by default or am I looking at the wrong options. Mozilla 1.0.
I knew someone who worked for a company that had him work on Open Source Software because it was cheaper to pay him to fix (They Needed Token Ring Support) one thing then to pay for other OS's
Unless you count those Open Source Developer Being Paid by corps. to do thing that they need for linux. I am not just talking about those few being employed by Linux Companys. In my LUG we use to have a guy who one of his jobs was to write several of the Token Ring Drivers because were he works they use token ring and it was cheaper for the corp. to hire him and have him work on those as well as a few other projects updating open source projects then for the corp. to use commerial software. I feel that is were those programers are going to end up. Which is were most software outside of games are being developed for anyway.
1. If the service is not necessary, why would you want an alternative?
With the TIVO the Service is required there is no option but to do the service so it is a necessary service
2. If the service is just an "overpriced gimmick" that is "not necessary", why would that convince someone to buy the hardware?
The Hardware is a great Idea and once a few things get fixed like the abilty to xfer data from one tivo to another gets fixed I will probly by one.
3. Since the TiVo box can do little without the service, how is the service not necessary?
That is the One problem I have with the Tivo. If you don't do the service with the Tivo the Tivo will shutdown and not alow you to fall back to Record Channel 7 from 8:00pm to 9:00pm and call it XYZ.
4. Since they sell the box at a loss and don't require that you purchase the service, why don't people just all buy the box and never subscribe to the service -- if the service is "unnecessary", "overpriced", and a "gimmick"?
Tivo has made that imposible with there software. If your unit doesn't call home every so offten the software fails to work. Now I am sorry but Tivo requires you to buy a service from them if you want to use your Tivo at all. Now if they gave you some options like manual record even if you nolonger have the service and set my clock options then people might not complain as much about the cost.
Nescape 6.2 is faster but mozila 0.9.9 is faster then both. I looks like they are to the point now that mozilla is working on speed more and bugs less. Makes since that is why they are at 1.0.

I used to be dept. manger for music at wal-mart and they have accept anything but same cd replacements for CD in over 5 Years.

Ask for Just a Toy when makeing an order someday.
When I worked for McDonalds 6 Years ago the cost was $.99 for just the toy without the meal.

Wrong the first Hard Drive Size Limit was Dos Prior to 4.0 which was 33 Megs. If have no idea about other os's

Yes but most of the major projects like GNome and KDE have regular conf to hash out yearly plans which most of the big players attend.
