    Its not not eradiacate the flys, its only a population control measure (Reduce their numbers). Have you seen the amount of these flys? Reducing the amount of flys is quite nessicary.

    Of course these arent /mutant/ flys. theve just been sterilised. No more radioactive than usual, and cetainly not going to pass in theyre sterility to the next generation :).

    I for one do NOT A think pumping large numbers of mutant insects into the environment might be a bad idea.

    But if you ate one of these little buggers wouldnt you get the dose anyway? (possibly even greater than would normally be administered) If so, it is poinous because it is venemous. The reverse, however would not be true.

    In the far majority of cases this is very much the truth. I want to point out that *some* unique biochemistry can be found in such circumstances.

    In the early days, someone tested all the human cells that people were growing in culture and found *all* the cells came from the same person. This one freak mutants cells could be grown in a culture, and no-one elses could. The mutants cells were contaminating all the 'other' cultures.

    Im sure this ability of that persons cells was studied extensivly without there knowledge for the betterment of medical science. I understand these days better techniques allow these non-mutant cells of everyone else to be grown in culture (Such as growing skin for transplant).

    *NB - I agree with the above post though. Its not you plebs are ever going to test your own cells, are you now? And mostly, unlike what your parents told you, you are not special.

    A related idea would be to make some sort of heat exchanger that'd simultaneously cool the cpu and warm your room. With lots of machines, that could save a lot in heating costs.

    Thats what normally happens. Heat produced by the cpu is transfered to the room. Simultaneously cooling the cpu and warming your room!!!

    So before you go mouthing off about this, maybe you should think logically about the two problems which are quite related.

    Two points -
    A) If the hole in the ozone layer/overall ozone depletion was reduced, more UV is absorbed. You seem to forget this. This is mostly irellevent as...
    B) UV radiation does not cause significant temperature increases. Uv radiation excites electrons (this is why it is considered a cancer risk), it does not excite the molecules bonds (which would cause a temperature increase).

    It is infra-red ration which causes these 'greenhouse gases' bonds to 'wobble' thus increasing the temperature

    A so called 'positive' identification on the basis of a DNA profile is so uncertain (1/7000) that procecution could only really be obtained in addition to more solid evidence. Screening a blood sample against your entire population should not even be needed since you could screen against people who actually were suspects. This technology should not be an alternative to actual investigations.

    This is rather like the robot snake, and indeed similar 'robots' can transform (This one by Xerox). Not exactly orignial, and the miniturisation seems to be little more than hype at the moment.

    Im not so sure that we'll see this very soon, Its like the tobacco industry and 'safe' cigarettes, they didnt bring them out because it would be admitting that regular ones are not safe, and open them selves up to litagation (obviously, these days its a given)

    They would have (I would hope) used a control group, idealy identical except for the use of mobile phones, so they compare the incidence of specific cancers in the mobile phone group, to the control. This eliminates the need for finding a group of people that have never used a computer monitor and always sit a minimum of 15 feet from the TV
